I've been craving Korean as I haven't had any in the past few months so for my last meal in Sydney, I let my relatives choose a spot. We settled on Eastborne as there's Little Korea east of the train station.
We dropped into Mirac Korean on a Monday evening (around 7:30pm). There were plenty of open tables so we grabbed one at the front for the 6 of us. Staff are friendly but service wasn't the greatest. We had to flag them down when we wanted more water and banchan.
The menu is quite large with hot pot, main dishes, BBQ, appetizers, deopbap, hot soup, tang, bibimbap, noodles and drinks.
- Banchan - there were a couple different side dishes: kimchi, fish cakes, seaweed salad, soy glazed potatoes and two types of spinach salad. Potatoes and seaweed salad were my two favourites.
- Jap chae (#35) ($15.00 AUD) - a typical dish but tasty and well executed.
- Seafood and vegetable pancake (#34) ($15.00 AUD) - another dish done well. The best part was the sauce which had a perfect balance of sweet and spicy.
- Spicy BBQ octopus (#39) ($16.00 AUD) - a little on the small side but the gochujang sauce was tasty although not even a hint of heat to it. Decent but I'd try another meat dish next time.
- Assorted seafood casserole in hot soup (#4) ($60.00 AUD for 3) - the hot pot came with 5 bowls of rice. We shared between the 5 of us and still had leftovers. There was a good mixture of seafood (crab, prawns, octopus, mussels) along with tofu, some sort of green leafy vegetable, cabbage, bean sprouts, onions and green onions. Sadly, the broth had nothing going on to it. It was bland and lacked any essence of spice/heat/flavour to it. Pretty disappointing.
For me, the price was reasonable but I wasn't wowed by our meal. With so many other Korean restaurants in the 'hood, I'd try my luck elsewhere next time. read more
