My mother suffered a devastating stroke that left her unable to walk, unable to move her arms, and barely able to speak--at one point, the only word she could say was "ok." As a family, we were scared, overwhelmed, and unsure of what her future would look like. What this facility did for her... truly changed everything. Today, she is now speaking over 100 words. That transformation alone speaks volumes about the dedication and skill of the speech therapy team. They didn't just do their job--they gave my mother her voice back. The physical therapy department worked with her consistently, day in and day out. Even though she's still on her journey toward walking and regaining full use of her hands, the progress she's made has given her something priceless: belief. She now knows recovery is possible, and that mindset shift is everything. Let's be real--no place is perfect. But what sets this facility apart is the effort, the consistency, and the care. In a place where patients are going through some of the hardest moments of their lives, the staff still shows up with compassion and professionalism. From the valet to the front desk, from housekeeping to dietary staff, management, and especially the nurses and students putting in real, hands-on work--you can feel that people here care. And that matters more than anything. This is not just a facility--it's a place where real healing happens. To everyone there: thank you for giving my mother progress, hope, and dignity. Please keep doing what you're doing--you are truly changing lives.

I've been on a long journey with my mental health, and it hasn't been an easy one. From the…read moreconstant dissappointment that's been my companion, to the depression that one day changed me into a different person without warning, it's been rough. And I understand that it hasn't just been rough for me. It's also been rough for the people around me. I consider myself to be brave. Getting out of bed each morning may not seem brave to most, but anyone who has battled through the self eclipsed war of depression knows otherwise. When the voices and forces within you want nothing more than to bring you down, you need to rise above. And that, is the bravest thing anyone could ever do. Depression can you turn you into someone you aren't. It will make your face unrecognizable in the mirror, your voice unrecognizable to your ears. When you're hurting, you do and say things you don't mean. You turn into an angry, ugly person. Someone you truly are not. To those who could not handle it, I'm sorry. I truly am sorry.  When you get into a really bad state, sleeping is rare. You lay awake through the night, thinking, weeping and panicking. Essentially, wishing you were dead. Waking up in the morning and carrying on like a "normal human" is not the easiest thing in the world to do, when just 12 hours ago you were praying to fall asleep and not wake up. Some would say I was unmotivated, boring or mean. They weren't wrong, but if only they knew. When you're depressed, it is difficult to reach out. You fear what others will think, and how they will treat you. "Get over it", "You're so dramatic", these are phrases I've heard more than enough. The thoughts that go on in our minds are scary, terrifying in fact. It takes courage to face them yourself, let alone take the first step in changing and reprogramming your thought process. I have seen the light. A light I once thought I would never find. My mental illness is not my reality. I would never choose this life for myself, or anyone, but i have finally overcome my demons. The Holistic Sanctuary gave me the power to take control of my life and stopped my battles with addiction and guided me in overcoming my mental health issues. From the various IV therapies, to energy healing, massages, to a well balanced diet and nutrition, after 17 years of nicotine addiction and my struggles with mental health have become a thing of the past. I have never felt more powerful than I do in this very moment. I am filled with so much self love that I could never ingest or cause any type of harm that is my body, my temple. I've realized that I haven't been the person I truly am, or the person I am meant to be. I've done, and said, some terrible things. I've made mistakes, and I've been an ugly person. If it wasnt for Johnny and his angels I wouldnt have continued on this path and for that I want to say thank you for your kindness. You will never know how often the smallest gestures made the biggest difference. On days when all I could do was cry, or all I wanted was to become invisible, your kindness mattered. Your listening ear, your gentle hug, your affirmation that I matter in this world all changed my outlook, or at least my day. It is in these smallest, quiet moments that my world slowly began to change for the better. Thank you for being there. There have been times when simply your presence in the room made me feel safe. Sometimes, just knowing in that moment I was not alone saved my life. How do I even begin to thank you for something so monumental? The words "thank you" seem so inadequate, and yet they are all I have to offer. I know I can never repay you, but please know I am eternally grateful. Without Johnny I would no longer be here. Thank you for making the effort to making my journey as easy as possible each and every day. Thank you for realizing that while I rarely ask, I often need help and support. Thank you for all you have done and continue to do in guiding all those that are lost in the world. In my experience, few are as faithful as those who stand by your side through depression or other mental illness. You are all remarkable human beings and thank you for saving my life. This is the greatest gift you can give to yourself or to anyone that is suffering from any addiction or severe mental health issues. TRUST AND LET GO

You say you'll stay for 30, they say you need to stay for 60. While the longer you remain in a CREDIBLE patient-based (usually under the care of a hospital with doctor overseeing the program) the greater chance of staying sober, BUT if you stay 60, they push for 90. God forbid you announce after 17 days that you will be leaving in 30, the staff becomes very passive aggressive and vascillates between trying to threaten clients with relapse and ignoring them altogether. The staff has ZERO accreditations other than being in recovery themselves. HIPPA and privacy is completely ignored, and have no medical background whatsoever. They do not treat the clients with any compassion or respect, unless you/your family has money. There were three people out of 65 who were solely there for alcohol (no cross-addiction). They were handed The Big Book and that was it. Those with eating disorders, methamphetamine, or pill addictions had separate groups for counseling daily. Those three never had any sessions where they were able to discuss their addiction or were given any help. The entire group went to AA speaker meetings 7 days a week, but never got delve into their own issues. Kathleen made a point to dress down the entire group over unhappy staff and actually said, "We DO NOT CARE how you got here. We don't care about your past. Stop whining and listen to your counselors, they have heard every lie and excuse coming out of you and know you better than you know yourself!" Sobriety 101, addiction is a symptom of the problem that brought them to rehab. There was absolutely no communication with family members, which is essential as it is a family disease. One person who completed their treatment after 90 days, was back the very next day as they relapsed that night. They had something called Family Week, that only those who had been at the facility for at least 90 days MIGHT be able to attend, but it was months away. Family members were encouraged to take an entire week off of work and pay for a week's stay at a hotel where they held it. Some of these people's loved ones spent every last dime to keep them there and could not take off work for a day, let alone an entire week. Kathleen's "special talent" is to single out a client and proceed to rip them apart in front of their peers (and was said to do this at Family Week repeatedly over the course of the week). Nothing she said was in the vein of healing. It was 45 minutes of verbal abuse that left people completely traumatized. MacKenzie Phillips wasn't an active member of the program, she just wandered the halls, if she was there at all. Breathe has a lot of glossy pictures and empty promises (equine therapy...there was none, a swimming pool...clients were not allowed to use it, trips to the beach...nope, too much liability). The founder bought up all but two houses on a street in Laurel Canyon (you do the math) and it looks great on their website, but that's it. It is NOT a safe place to heal. ***Bottom line, if you or someone needs help with addiction, please find a PATIENT-BASED rehab facility, that encourages family participation through visitation and group therapy. The counselors should hold degrees in psychology, drug and addiction counseling, etc and have done clinical hours during their studies. Places that show you pictures of what looks like a 5-star resort with promises of gourmet food, a spa-like atmosphere, and an easy process do not have their client's best interest at heart. As with any facility, you need to do your due diligence, ask questions, and review their qualifications. If I can educate just one person on what to look for and what to avoid, so that they can help a loved one or themselves acheive sobriety in a safe and healthy environment, then I will consider writing this incredibly worthwhile.

The overall company was trying to get the most money out of my insurance as possible. I started off in the sober living facility and during Christmas time, I had covid over winter and had to take NyQuil and that was the first excuse for forcing me back into a rehab program that was not needed. My reason for being in the program in the first place was that I had 18 back to back surgeries over the past 4 years and was on opioids for a long period of time so this was a way to detox in a safe environment. There was no psychological addiction, just physical dependence to opioids. They lied about multiple addictions to medication(amphetamine addiction) that I was prescribed since childhood and used it to get more money through insurance. They also lied about an alcohol addiction, when I am medically intolerant to alcohol. When I got back to the sober living after this time I was talked about poorly among staff members and called "attention seeking" for asking for a few days off in order to visit 2 dying family members. Eventually someone in the group had consumed alcohol and told the staff which upset another client due to the unfairness and favoritism. This upset client gave me alcohol without my knowledge or consent and afterwards told the staff that I was drunk. This other client had been upset and doing things like this for 2 weeks prior to this incident. I believe he did this in order to prove a point that they will send people they dislike or with good insurance back to rehab in order to get more money. This client later confessed to me he had put alcohol in my drink without my consent and I had a reaction to the alcohol and was placed back into the rehab facility. I was put on addictive barbiturates and unnecessary medications for 2 days before my insurance denied coverage due to fraudulent services. The alcohol level was so low that there was no logical reason I needed to be there. I was then abandoned as a patient had had to find a new place to live in 2 hours or I was out on the street. Remember it's just a business. They don't actually care about you. They left another 2 of my friends on their own where one eventually fell into a coma following her abandonment. Something else they did was contact my pharmacy and told them never to fill any of my prescriptions ever from any doctor. I was no longer under their care at all. I'm a disabled person and this made it very difficult to obtain medication that I needed. This is a HIPPA violation for sure.

Review of Kennedy Care Center (Los Angeles)…read more My family had a disturbing experience at Kennedy Care Center involving my grandfather, who was sent there from Cedars-Sinai for short-term rehabilitation after a minor head injury. He was medically stable and walking when admitted, yet he was kept there for almost seven weeks against his clear wish to go home. A doctor's recommendation to stay in a facility is medical advice, not a legal order, and patients have the right to leave--even "against medical advice" (AMA). However, staff used "medical advice" as pressure to keep him there. The administrator tried to shame us for wanting to take him home, asking, "Why don't you care about medical advice?" instead of acknowledging that discharge is a patient right. During his stay, staff were rude and dismissive toward me. His health declined severely under their care: he entered walking, and by the time he finally got home, he was wheelchair-bound and too weak to stand. I hold a valid Power of Attorney for my grandfather, which Cedars-Sinai recognized without issue. Kennedy copied the POA but refused to honor it. Staff even assigned a "responsible party" to make decisions for him, claiming he lacked capacity without any proper assessment, which allowed them to override both his wishes and my legal authority. At one point, I attempted to take him home AMA, and staff refused and even threatened to call the police. Later, his doctor formally discharged him--I was present when the doctor completed the discharge in his office--but Kennedy still denied he was discharged and falsely claimed Adult Protective Services had blocked it. APS confirmed that wasn't true. This wasn't the first time. On a previous stay, Kennedy kept him nearly a month past his discharge date. From my experience, the delays appeared motivated by billing, not patient care. In my opinion, Kennedy Care Center showed disregard for patient rights, ignored a valid Power of Attorney, used intimidation tactics, and caused serious decline in my grandfather's health. No family should feel powerless in a place that's supposed to provide care and dignity. I cannot recommend this facility based on our experience.
