Filthy. Had the displeasure of being neighbors of one of their homes and they were horrific to say the least. This company leases homes in residential neighborhoods but does not upkeep or maintain the house in the slightest. Never did I see a gardener- it really lowers the morale and property value of the neighborhood. Staff shady and weird. Loud altercations. Gosh forbid they ever quietly unload groceries without yelling that can be heard throughout the block. Shady people coming and going at all hours! read more

Based on my experiences with Transcend whatever you do, DON'T SEND YOUR LOVED ONES THERE! MANY MANY things were wrong at Transcend while my daughter was there but here are two of the many examples. -The first night that my daughter was there she sat in the Transcend van from 5:00 pm until 10:15 pm while another client got their hair done at a local beauty school. She missed going to a 12 step meeting and did not get to eat dinner until returning to the house at 10:15 pm. The next day I contacted the house manager who confirmed that the incident happened. -The first week my daughter was there, another female came and got into bed with my daughters room mate. The overnight staff were aware that the two females were sharing a bed but did not intervene. The next day when I spoke with the house manager about the incident her response was that another house member had relapsed and the two young ladies "were comforting each other". I expressed multiple concerns to the Transcend headquarters in Los Angeles with minimal or no response. My daughter left the house after 15 days and moved to a different sober living where she is now clean and sober. At $5000/month for a sober living home I expected my daughter would be living in a structured, safe environment that supported recovery. What my daughter got for $5000 a month was hours of riding around in a van while other clients were getting their hair/nails done and a night spent listening to two females sharing a bed next to her. Based on my daughter's experience, it is my humble opinion that much more harm than good was done at Transcend. This was my daughter's first time in treatment and I blindly sent my daughter half way across the country "hoping for the best". In the past I have often discounted negative reviews thinking that the reviewer did something to deserve poor service. That is not the case in this instance. Spend your recovery dollars somewhere else that actually offers the services they advertise. Fortunately my daughter didn't give up on treatment after her nightmare of an experience at Transcend but she could have, and I would be writing her obituary instead of review. Very disappointing experience. I was needing support and communication from the sober coach that I was assigned and was told by the coach that I needed to call him. I communicated that I needed him to reach out to me but that didn't happen. I was tired of being told that he had other people who wanted recovery and that is who he focused on. I am struggling with sobriety and felt like until I committed to doing whatever it takes they weren't as willing to help. I strongly suggest that you look elsewhere. read more

Of all the things I love about Transcend, The one I love the most is the staff. They truly care and you can tell on a daily basis by the way they go about their tasks, it's almost like they actually enjoy what they do. My experience was with a family member's stay at their affiliate community in Houston. Transcend totally failed to live up to the services they agreed to provide. I discussed these serious issues (including botched prescriptions of meds) both during the stay and afterwards with executive officers in both Houston and Los Angeles. In response to complaints they stonewalled and, after the family member left, simply cut off communications. In my experience Transcend's management is dishonest and their business practices are unethical. read more

Well, my program in Malibu was in crisis. We suffered a significant evacuation due to fire and without even a hesitation, the Transcend owner and staff came together to give us food, shelter and comfort for my clients that were displaced, anxious and feeling overwhelmed by tragedy. When you think of your loved one going to a place that is willing to give the shirt off their back without question, then Transcend is where your loved one belongs. I spent four worthless weeks at the Transcend houses in California. I say houses (plural) because I requested to be moved twice. Their Santa Monica house was disgusting. Not only was it tiny ( I had to walk through a bedroom to get to my bed. I was shown the downstairs rooms and they smelled like crack, or meth, I'm not sure since I am just a run of the mill alcoholic. I ended up in the Brentwood house for most of the month. While there I was taken to an AA meeting once per day, assuming the driver didn't relapse again. That was it, one meeting per day. No group sessions, no real sober reinforcement, nada. Unfortunately addiction is becoming big business and the founder of Transcends is really only concerned with the almighty dollar. So what is Transcends Recovery Community? It's a parking spot for troubled young adults whose parents can't control anymore and want to stick them somewhere. BTW, I asked to leave one day early to stay at the airport hotel in order to catch my flight early in the morning. The first thing I did after checking in was hit the bar and get drunk. I needed a drink after a month in that place. Why did I stay for the whole month? I did it for my wife. This was the only time I went to an inpatient situation where I wanted a drink as soon as I left. Usually I had some "pink cloud" for a few months. DON"T send your kids here. Transcend sober living has really helped change my life for the better. I entered their Santa Monica home after residential treatment and I can honestly say it has made the biggest impact on my sobriety over anything else I have done. The staff really cares for the clients, and they have all been around recovery for so long that they can recognize dangerous patterns for each individual and do their best to put you back on track before it's too late. I have seen Transcend staff helping and maintaining friendships with former clients and their families long after the client left the program. Luke and Mike do a great job at recognizing an individuals strengths and weaknesses then creating a unique program to cultivate and strengthen those areas. Living conditions are great, and anything that comes up is fixed in a timely fashion. It must be hard keeping a house of up to 14 newly sober guys in tip top shape, but they do a good job. I did not like the idea of sober living yet I ended up staying for almost a year because I enjoyed the house so much. The food was a little lackluster for a while, 1 chef was cooking for all their homes on LA, but vast improvements were made in the months before I left. Now 1 cook is only responsible for 2 homes, so about 20 people, which made the food much better. My family has only good things to say about this experience. I decided to take part in the mentoring program after I left the house and it has been a positive experience so far. It keeps me accountable, and connected to the sober community. Living at Transcend was a great experience. Possibly the greatest thing Transcend was able to do for me was hoping connect me with a social network full of sober people. After moving out of Transcend, all these sober people are now my closest friends and I feel maintaining these healthy relationships will be very crucial to my continued sobriety. read more

I currently live at transcend and have been for several months. During my tour I fell in love with the facilities, the view of seaside house is amazing and one of the houses is a great house if only they would update the facility. My bath tub looks amazing but has been broken for God knows how long, another thing is broken but to protect my identity (so that I won't suffer reproductions of this review) I will not say, the ice machine only halfway works. Some of the staff members that I talked to about what it's like here explained to me that there are chores, and within 30 days your restricted to only going out with level 2 (or above) and staff members. Once a resident I found out only some people "level up" within 30 days and there are loopholes that you will have to go through in order to get off restriction, (it took me several months). Some of the staff are really genuine but most of the staff are "clock watchers" and just doing it for the paychecks only doing the bare minimum, there hearts are really not dedicated to help educate the "guest" aka residents. In the intake contract it specially states that the residents are "guests" and that "transcend rules are subject to change at anytime" and oftentimes they do without notice. On my day off work I was forced to cook for the entire residents and staff for Sunday dinner when advertised transcend provides dinner. Staff will not allow you to eat past 11pm. I was also unaware before hand that there will be Sunday "double scrub" that has to be done almost immediately after "guest" wakes up barely giving anyone time to eat breakfast. Overall there seems to be a lot that changes without guest's consideration and a lot of the house's staff making rules up as they go. Today I have been asked to do my Sunday double scrub 3 times and on the 3rd time I was in the middle of a nap due to me having a major migraine, out of the several months that I have stayed at Transcend no one has had to repeat a double scrub. There's a lot of underground favoritism going on for instance I have heard and witnessed one staff member say "I'll give you an easy chore if you get me a pack cigarettes." Also there has not been a fun activity in 4 months. Overall there's a lack of respect that is being shown to the residents and are treated oftentimes less than human (concerning waking us up to respecting residents time). I had to cancel a personal trainer appointment and a psychologist appointment cause it wasn't convenient for the drivers. With that said I have attempted to express these concerns to Ashar however the "chain of command" has prevented me from expressing these options in a threatening manner. I'm sure it's not Ashar or the office staff that run transcend allowing this to happen but the staff members below the "higher ups" from knowing what actually goes on outside of putting their best faces forward for their bosses. The parents are unaware due to the exploitation of the mistrust they have for their addict family member in transcend. It's easy for a parent to believe in a phone call from a "professional" but hard to trust the word of the addict family member. So with that said I would want a few things to tighten up on the staff end, and a few things to improve including the staff's attitude towards the residents and fair structure between every resident before I would recommend it to anyone. read more
