After having my son's hair cut about once a month for almost three years now, I knew we needed a barber change. Miracles is true to its name. We got service immediately (as opposed to the 2-hour wait at his last barber). I sat down next to my son as he was getting his hair cut, while taking notice of the clean, fly-free, orderly environment of this male pampering place. My son's barber was great with him. We hadn't gotten his hair cut in a while (because of the aforementioned 2-hour wait), so his hair was matted and tangled and dry and long. Brought back my own childhood memories of dreaded tangles, as I watched this patient and gentle barber comb and cut my crying child's hair. I was on the brink of tears when my son wanted to use the bathroom a second time, not to really use it but, instead, to vent about the pain and cry in my arms. Nevertheless, we persevered. After about another 10 minutes (30 minutes total), his tapered super low hair cut showed off my handsome son's features. No nicks, but a perfect, neat and boxy hair line. Thanks to Yelp I found my new BFF! Anton "Twan" is AWESOME! I went to him without an appointment (although I'd recommend getting there no later than 5 PM Tuesday- Saturday if you want to see him or calling ahead). He had a great personality and was extremely friendly. He asks for pictures so he can get a sense of what you're looking for, and actually talks to you throughout your haircut so you feel completely comfortable with your end result. As a female, finding the right person to do your hair, especially if you're a buzz cut babe, is not an easy thing, so I am so glad to have found Anton (actual spelling of his name). The barber shop atmosphere is also welcoming and enjoyable and the B54 bus stops directly in front of the shop (so it's easy to access on public transit). So glad that Yelp led me here. I was in desperate need for a shape up, as I transitioned back to short hair a few months ago. I've been attempting to grow my hair out, but after visiting more than a few barber shops in my Flatbush neighborhood, I've always come out with a very "hard" cut, more fitting for a man. And usually there wasn't much consideration that I want to have a shape up with the ultimate goal of growing my hair out. I guess the concept is hard for some barbers to understand. I popped into this shop just as Anton arrived, so my timing was spot on. I explained to Anton what I was looking for, and he understood. Place is all that and my barber Dennis has the clippers on lock. He operates his tools the way Michelangelo handled his paintbrush-with deft precision. I called the shop after I spent considerable time perusing the internet in search of a competent barber who focused on his clients and not every piece of a#$ that walked by the store. I've never left a barber in my life unless I was moving. But my last stylist was too busy running numbers, eating hoagies, scoping women, watching tv, and gabbing with every Tom, Dick and Harry that walked through the door. This prologue is relevant because, the attention that a barber gives to his client in the seat goes a long way towards developing and realizing the image and appearance you are trying to achieve. This is what Dennis does. When I first spoke to him on the phone, we talked for almost ten minutes. I was telling him about the praise customers were giving him on the shop's website. He was very accommodating. We talked about his hours and if he had a portfolio. He gave me his cell number and we stayed in touch. I get to the shop and he greets me enthusiastically. When I get into the seat we exchange pleasantries. He thanks me for giving him the opportunity to cut my hair. He was so genuine and humble. I showed him some styles I was looking at but he let me know that the images on the internet were highly stylized and not representative of a cut specific to each headshot and hair grade. Dennis came up with a nice concept and I just put my trust in his hands. Dennis took his time during every step of the haircut. We talked about how he got started. He watched You Tube videos of a barber and he was cutting the hair of his friends because he enjoyed doing it. He just loves what he is doing. He was philosophical about it, like why live your life doing something you don't enjoy doing? He is an entrepreneur in the truest sense. He was talking to me explaining every step of his work. His edge up work with the razor was super tight. He gave a nice suggestion about not taking off the entire beard from under my neck. His input was welcomed because I've never been offered a suggestion from my barber before. In the past, it was more like, this is what I want and they gave it to me. Dennis communicated with me and I learned about how committed he was to the customer's need to look his very best. When I got out of the chair I was extremely satisfied with my haircut. From my first phone conversation until the final swipe of alcohol and oil on the back of my neck, Dennis showed nothing but class, patience, and exhibited a professional demeanor. The shop is fun, lively, and clean. All of the barber's were cordial and every patron that entered was greeted warmly. The haircut was $30.00 with the beard trimming. This price seems to be the standard for a cut so I am good with it. I will be back to see Dennis bi-weekly. As a working professional, I value my time and those I work with and serve. I don't feel like the worth ethic at this shop vibes with who I am and my needs as a customer. Sometimes you don't realize how amazing a place is until you go to a really shitty place. Recently, I got a haircut on the fly at some joint on the Upper West Side because I wasn't going to be in Brooklyn for a few days. Big mistake! I missed my amazing barber, Taj, who cuts hair to perfection, takes her time, and doesn't talk your ear off with nonsense. I've had the unfortunate pleasure of a bad haircut. I can't even count how many times. So when the only guy who understood what I wanted decided to move to Atlanta I was in a bind. It would seem that fate would smile upon me and allow me to meet Rod. When I came to the shop I was a bit nervous as to only having one barber for the past 8 years. Everyone was welcoming and funny. What's worse than pandemic quarantine hair? Getting your child's hair cut here. An amateur could have done a better job, a blind person could have done a better. My son did not cry and sat relatively still in the chair for about 25-35 minutes to no avail. The barber did a horrible job and my son's cut looks akin to a cancer patient who just underwent chemotherapy. He could not even shape his hair line.
