I have rheumatoid arthritis and when I walked through the doors I had a feeling of, "What in the world am I even doing here?" I soon found out. I have consistently worked out three times a week for the past 6 months and have seen tremendous gains in muscle mass, losing fat, gaining weight. I know 35 people by name including all the very helpful employees that sit behind the desk but also are very willing to join you on the floor and help you with whatever questions you have. Attendance then often dwindles throughout the following months. By autumn I'm sure some fitness centers are probably feeling the strain. I've put together a pretty respectable home gym and with the news of twins on the way, we decided that the extra expense wasn't justified. Here's what happened and the subsequent complaint we lodged with Grand Fitness to the BBB... My wife no longer frequents Grand Fitness after multiple interactions with rude personnel. She has since found other fitness activities and has attempted to cancer her membership. The first attempt was in person 30 days prior to the end of her year long membership. She explicitly requested that they not retain her financial information at the outset and the subscription should have just run out. However, they did have her credit card on file, had her marked for auto-renewal, and informed her that they require a minimum 45 day notice prior to renewal to cancel. The often rude. Person at the front desk informed my wife that her membership would be renewed as scheduled regardless of her wishes. Angry and frustrated, she asked me to write the management to clear things up and ensure management was aware that we would not be paying for another year. The manager emailed a reply simply stating that she could not discuss membership information With anyone not on the account. In a third notice by email I repeated our wishes for cancellation and informed management that since my name was on the bank account that payed for this membership, our bank was informed of their business practices and to block any attempt at further charges. Yesterday, my wife received an email from that same manager informing her that her membership renewal could not be processed because the card on file was declined and payment should be made immediately to avoid late penalties. Are they dense or simply ignoring us? Nonetheless, we have contacted our attorney and will be contacting the local Chamber of Commerce about their behavior and business practices. They were informed in person and via email of our wishes, and refuse to allow us to quit! Perhaps, instead of worrying about the loss of one customer, they should consider the ramifications of word getting out about their policies and practices. We were so excited about having this place so close to our home when it opened. It has just been an unpleasant situation nearly from the beginning.

We later went in person to cancel and were under the impression that the membership would end after the initial term. Months later, billing continued. When trying to cancel, the system didn't recognize the account, which delayed the process until management corrected it. We eventually managed to cancel, but the communication and cancellation process were unclear. Make sure you fully understand how billing and cancellation work, especially when signing up a minor.

Here's the low down: The 7 day pass is only valid for locals with a local ID. A weekly pass is outrageous at $45. (Huh? That's double the monthly rate!!!) *weekly pass isn't 24/7, only access when staffed (6am-8pm) A day pass is $12 (Golds is $10) But after paying and getting inside it's worth it. The equipment seems fairly new and the place is super clean! The free weights are located near a huge mirror although the lighting isn't ideal... (narcissistic millennial, sue me) But all the other equipment is well lit and laid out perfectly. I showed up around 12:30pm and it was almost empty except for some really attractive females (SOLD). Loads of treadmills and ellipticals, but I could see this place getting packed fairly quickly at peak hours. ***Overall this place will be my go to from now on; as long as you miss peak hours and don't mind paying $12 a day this place is wayyy better than any other option in town.

No personal training offered at this location even though when I signed up I was told they would be offering it in the next year. No area for stretching or working on the mats since they moved everything around. Hydromassage bed also frequently isn't working. The only thing that does work consistently is the tanning bed so that is worth the 1 star.
