We've seen several great preschools in Paranaque and in Makati but this is really the one where we felt that it was a perfect match. First off, they had one of the longest trial classes. They offered it for a whole week and gave it another 2-week extension. In that time, my daughter go to know the teachers really well and started forming a bond with some of her "classmates". Second, the teachers are really caring. I sat in during the last day of her trial class and saw how responsive the head teacher was. They have a low student to teacher ratio 1:7 which is really ideal for kids this young. Third, I love that it's a real international school. They've had their preschool in the US for 10 years and have been voted as the best in the state. They've even started expanding to two other states. The Philippines is their first international location. Finally, they have a supplemental Headstart program to prepare the students for the start of the school year. The tuition fee is affordable for all that it offers. While they are relatively new here, their methods are already tried and tested. I recommend them for any parent with preschool-aged kids.

The system in place at Tutoring Club first assesses the current skill level of the student, and then they customize a schedule that will bring the student up to the necessary skill level. They have work books and work sheets that will really test the thinking capabilities of the student. Tutoring Club offers its services for Math, Writing and Reading, but students can also avail of private tutoring called "Tutor Up". This is a more customized service that will really cater to the student's needs, whether it's with science homework or writing and essay for English class. Not only do they handle elementary and high school students, but during the summer, pre-school students also come in and are taught how to speak and read English, and also practice basic Mathematics. I really enjoyed my time tutoring at this place, because of the quality of service they give to the students. I'm sure that each branch will have their own specialty, but Tutoring Club Greenhills will always be the benchmark for quality tutors.

What distinguishes St. Paul from other schools is its determination to bring up well-rounded girls. Yes, the importance of academics is highlighted, but in all my years there, our teachers and headmistresses never failed to remind us that art and culture are important too. Off-campus broadway shows and other cultural immersions were the norm, and in retrospect we were so fortunate to have been exposed to those things growing up. Music appreciation is also incredibly prevalent in the school. While other schools have one alma mater song, we had AT LEAST five. That's not including Marian songs we'd sing all throughout the month of October. Often, the morning rites included a religious song taught to us by experienced music teachers who had so much passion for teaching their chosen subject. Having been part of the choir for three years in high school, I had the pleasure of being under the tutelage of conductress Mrs, Sheila Fetalvero. Fondly called Mommy B, she was the mother hen to the MAC (Music Appreciaton Club) Choir. The club is called differently now, but in many choral and glee club circles, it's so prominent that it's still referred to as MAC to this day. St. Paul may not agree with all my religious beliefs, but it was an excellent place to grow up. I would be happy to send my own children there.

This school boasts for a lot of things, it has great facilities, great programs both academic and extra-curricular, and has an advanced curriculum compared to other schools. It's also internationally accredited by WASC or the Western Accreditation for Schools and Colleges and has continuously received only the top honors from PAASCU. Everything about this place claims excellence but from experience I've seen it's mostly just talk. The facilities here are great and the extra curricular program is top notch but it's the academic offerings that have caused trouble now that I'm in college. Frankly the whole "advanced" curriculum did nothing to help my friends and I in college, it did nothing to boost the number of passers into different colleges and did nothing to help us get higher grades either. The advancement certainly did not deliver the results we were all expecting. But aside from that the teachers and staff at this school are great and really good at what they do.

Because of this mentality, I decided to do research on the different review centers that they had in Manila and I stumbled upon LSC. LSC is said to provide the most comprehensive and highest quality tutorials and review services to incoming college students and they were one of the cheapest review centers during that time. I was able to meet the requirements to avail of the discount. I applied with five of my friends so I only had to pay 8,000 pesos for the review services and the complementary books. The venue for the tutorial classes were really comfortable. It was big enough to accommodate all of the students and the class room was air conditioned. The instructors were also very efficient and helpful and they would often give us tips on how we should answer our CETs.

Our lessons were 5 afternoons a week, for 4 hours, and I really learned a lot! The instructors were helpful and taught well, and they gave tests at the end of every session so we would know where to focus our studies on. Their clientele is upscale and my favorite part about it all is that this give back to the community. A few months ago, I had the pleasure of attending their charity event for the year which involved gifting fishermen affected by Yolanda with fiber glass boats to replace the ones they had lost. There's nothing more important that I want my nephew to learn than to open his hand to others and this school does just that.
