(which, at a Beisl, when ordering with an American accent, is very unusual). I've had the Palatschinken (pancakes) which are delicious. By the way, the word Palatschinken comes from the Hungarian and has nothing to do with a plate of ham, which is what I first thought when I came to Austria. You know, "palat" sounds like plate and "Schinken" is the German word for ham...only when I read about "plate ham" with chocolate sauce and whipped cream it occurred to me I might have missed something in the translation. Back to the Beisl...they have great hot chocolate, too. They are perfectly located next to a bike path and a pedestrian bridge. I plan a little stop here when I'm on a bike ride or scooter ride with the kids. It's an ideal location and a great little stop in.

Since we only had pizzas - four different kinds - it's what I'll rate. Overall, a good pizza and a welcome addition to the neapolitan pizza restaurants in this town! I spoke with one of the owners (who also runs a cool outdoor furniture store next door) and he confirmed that every person involved with the place is from Naples. This showed in the care and quality of the pizza, but I wouldn't necessarily say that being from Naples had anything to do with the slightly confused service staff. To be fair, it was the first week they were open and the people involved barely spoke German or English -- which made me totally happy. The beverage assortment was adequate and reasonably priced. The pizzas were of that unique Naples quality with a fine, flavorful and chewy crust that had just enough crispness on the edges and spring in the bite. The tomatoes were definitely flavorful and perfectly proportioned. The toppings were all of high quality except for I have to demote slightly for the cow milk mozzarella they used on the basic pizzas. I know it can't always be the bangin' buffalo milk mozzarella, but this particular cheese they used had a distinctly flavorless character. I hope they'll change it. I would say that this place has slotted into #2 for pizza in Vienna as of summer 2015. They are ahead by a margin of the "Mari/Volante" empire, and slightly behind Riva. Definitely worth a visit, although you should probably book because the restaurant is small and, I hope, will be extremely popular.

They have a full menu of Austrian specialties or a self serve area if you aren't staying long. There is always a Mittagsmenu and the price is right for the huge portions. I highly recommend the backhendl salat or zander. There is a great terrace for outdoor seating or you can sit inside in the non-smoking area. The service is super nice and very fast. Today I saw a wedding party there, so it can host a good number of people. Tullnerstrasse just passed or before the restaurant (depends on which way you are coming from) has a gorgeous view of the Wienerwald and all of Vienna.
