After a morning of climbing the stairs to the Sacré-Cœur and exploring the hilly streets of this former village, I was ready to relax and have a good meal. I turned to food blogs to help differentiate between was seems to be rows of interchangeable cafes in the area and came across this gem. Miroir has a traditional bistro feel with a modern edge. The fixed price lunch menu is a great deal at €19.50 and includes the main dish, a glass of wine, coffee, and dessert. More importantly though, the quality of the food was excellent. I had the lamb with roasted vegetables, which was tender and delicious. Dessert was an assortment of warm mini pastries, chocolate mousse, and an espresso, all of which were good. My favorite restaurant. Period. Yes, it's that good. I lived in Paris for two years and I can confidently make that statement. Here's what you need to know: 1. They change the menu weekly based on whatever fresh ingredients they can get. 2. Get the Menu Gastronomique. It's about 43 Euros and the chef will ask you what you're allergic to and don't like, but will otherwise bring out whatever he wants. 3. If you plan on getting the Menu Gastronomiuqe, then don't eat lunch if you're going for dinner. On average, you will get 2 appetizers, 2 entrees, and 2 desserts. Sometimes more, sometimes less. If you eat normal sized portions you'll never be able to finish it all. 4. If you want to eat here, make a reservation. It's a small french restaurant. You may be able to walk in, but prepare to be told that they're either full or that they can't seat you for another hour or two. 5. Don't be shy to ask them what each plate is. Their English is pretty good. (It's a husband and wife operation). I've taken many visitors to this place and everyone has loved it. Credit goes to my French boss for introducing me to his favorite restaurant, which is now my favorite restaurant. The first neighborhood I lived in upon moving to Paris was Abbesses. Since some say I have an Audrey Tautou air about me, people back home thought I was the American Amélie romping around Montmartre with my quirky local buddies. Every time someone said so I'd roll my eyes and explain that the movie was a Disneyfication of Paris and that most locals totally ignored me. But secretly I knew that there was something ridiculous charming about the neighborhood that made you never want to leave it, which was why I always made my friends come to Abbesses whenever we made plans to hang out. At the time there were just a handful of good restaurants that weren't overrun by tourists, so I hardly ate out. But had Mirroir been there at the time it would have definitely been my go-to bistrot on special occasions. The space is cozy without being congested, and the design has something airy and contemporary about it while remaining warm and welcoming. The menu (entrée + plat or plat + dessert for 32E) is reasonable and varied. My ballotine of volaille appetizer -- three thin slices of a stuffed chicken roll -- was chic and very flavorful, and my filet mignon de porc with roasted root vegetables was perfectly tender and insanely hearty. So much so that I had no room for dessert, though I did make space for a spoonful (or three) of my dining partner's rich quenelle of chocolate with crushed candy on top that crackled and popped in your mouth. read more

RUDE RUDE RUDE! The waitstaff started off nice until they stole my phone!!! Watch your belongings at this place. I left the phone near my plate on the table and when the waitress came over to take my plate I realized my phone was gone. She was chatting us up and I was not aware to pay attention and look at where her hands were going. When I told her my phone was the table and that she took it, she denied it. Then the chef came out with a wine opener to tell us to get out. I kid you not! It was really scary to see the chef defend his staff so much without even talking to them. I am an honest person from NY I did not deserve to be treated like this. I know Iphones have a high resell price in Paris but its not right to steal. IMA visits Europe. We went here in advance of seeing the show at the Moulin Rouge, and I highly recommend it. Reasonably priced, friendly staff, and really excellent and tasty food. All of us had the chicken with peanut sauce, and all of absolutely loved it. I highly recommend it if you are in the northern part of the city! read more

Cute place with a great location just near the base of Sacre Coeur. No problems getting seated on a Saturday afternoon without a reservation. Staff speaks English which is very helpful, although as always I recommend using what French knowledge you have to communicate. The complimentary cheese puff (not sure if this is something they always do) was nice though not stunning. Their duck dish of the day was quite nice, as was their salmon dish of the day. Unfortunately I have nothing to say about their usual offers, but definitely the plates we got were quite nice (salmon had crisp skin and was buttery, duck was juicy and flavorful). Perhaps a bit on the pricey end for what is being offered but a nice place to check out nonetheless. read more

It was recommended by a friend in NYC, I am so happy I listened. This was by far, my best dining experience in Paris yet. Fois gras as an appetiser kicked ass. My wife had the crusted chicken and I had the pork, I couldn't stop myself and wanted more. Wine was excellent, staff was great, and since we dined late, the place was almost completely Parisians which was also a huge boost to the experience. Will definitely be back for more. This is pricey but it is really lovely. Loyal to local regulars. Good wine. The food is in human (contemporary) portions. Make a reservation! We stopped by at 5 pm and found the staff in the wine cave across the street - very helpful. Once inside @ 7:30 saw a touristy couple in shorts, didn't try to speak french, a little brash, promptly turned away (with many empty tables). But very friendly service -- or really good "leave you alone" service. Don't be intimidated, they are willing to speak/explain the menu in English. read more

We absolutely loved this restaurant. We went for our last dinner in Paris and it was a perfect choice. Despite the fact that we got there a little early for typical Parisian dinner time, there was a great vibe to the restaurant. The staff was extremely friendly and very attentive. My husband and I went for there for lunch - we got the entree, wine, and coffee deal for 18 euros each. Both of our dishes were delicious - the pork cheek with vegetables and duck with vegetables. The duck was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside; while the pork cheek were melt-in-your-mouth tender and flavorful. The wine was one of the best we've had in Paris for very decent price. The wife and I had our best lunch in Paris today. My duck was out of control, her beef blew our pants off. I started with cold asparagus soup, she with asparagus salad (we like asparagus, what can we say), and then dove into our main courses. We had no room for dessert, but easily emptied our bottle of rose. It was a wonderful lunch made better by an accomodating and understanding staff. My friend and I ate at miroir before going to see moulin rouge. A reservation was definitely necessary. The place was packed by 8pm. The waiter spoke English and explained each item on their board of offerings. We had some different pâtés for appetizers then I had a fish similar to sea bass that was delicious. I'm a big fan! They started out bringing some little cheese biscuits and were very accommodating with our friends that didn't speak French. Everyone was very friendly and our server helped us pick a really great wine (red cote de rhone?) as well. We had the zucchini soup and pig's ears to start. Both were delicious and fresh. Then we chose the chicken, which was extremely tender and perfectly cooked and the pork rib special. We couldn't get through on the phone to make a reservation so we stopped by the restaurant on our way to visit the Basilique du Sacre-Coeur around 5pm. The restaurant was closed (of course) but the wine shop across the street connected to the restaurant was open and the woman there took our reservation for the evening with no fuss. The cheese puff amuse-bouche was utterly forgettable, but the veal chops were gorgeous. I'm a new lover of peas and foam. The pop rocks on my quenelle of chocolate were unnecessary, but a fun addition. The rise and fall of an early diner is that...yes you feel like a dumb tourist in an empty restaurant for an hour, but you get the "A" seating ASAP. Enjoy! read more

I'd been walking around for a while and I was trying to find a place to eat that wasn't crowded and looked good. This was definitely what I was looking for! I was the only one there for lunch! I got to practice my French yet the waitress knew English and was very helpful and nice when I failed to put together a sentence properly. I had the pork with legumes, a glass of white wine and the french toast with caramel for dessert. I topped it all off with an espresso. It was all delicious! The pork was nice and tender, and the sauce over it was tasty (I used the bread to soak it all up!). The french toast was moist on the inside and nicely toasted on the outside. I'm a picky eater but I ate all of it with gusto! The atmosphere was very peaceful which was surprising since it's a short walk to the Sacre Coeur. We picked the restaurant on the strength of Paris by Mouth recommendations, but were disappointed. The bread and vegetables that came with the meals were OK, but the meat was either too salty or too bland and the duck in the pot au feu was tough. We were recommended this restaurant by an american friend who lives in Paris, was supposed to be cheap and good food but turned out to be the most disappointing dinner experience we had during 11 days in France. The prices were high and could in no way justify the mediocre lamb dish we got. Service was slow and the place was really hot despite sitting close to the exit. Interior very simple as well. Another Parisian friend who we invited out for dinner was not impressed either and wished that we would have asked him for recommendations instead. Huge let-down. read more
