The wait was a pleasant experience. Obviously, the shows change and since this was the first time we have been here I can only speak for that show and experience. Superb!! The production was "Sound of Music" and it was flawlessly performed. The company obviously has a passion for what they do. The orchestra was moving and at the same time unobtrusive, perfectly lending itself to the storyline and musical portions. Staff was friendly and profession. The refreshments looks delicious, but unfortunately dinner was too close and we weren't hungry. We will definitely be back as opportunity provides us an excuse. :-) NOTE on the production: If you haven't seen "Sound of Music" then you owe it to yourself. What a story of love, patriotism and moral courage! The characters were all convincing in their roles and the main characters had you captivated.

My grandson has tried out for parts with their groups that travel to the schools to perform. He has Apraxia of speech. This is a disconnect between the brain and the muscles of his mouth. He could be given a non speaking part or one that doesn't speak much but they refuse to give him the chance. He has tried out for three years and this last time which was just last week, he cried his little heart out. He said that they think he is stupid because he can't speak right. It is heart breaking for us and for him. He could learn the part in sign language and have it interpreted for the show. It is just not fair!!!

The fact that they hide the research they do on a community (provided by an anonymous source), and…read moredo very little to connect with the local drama teachers/directors puts them in question. Unlike the U of M based Montana Thespian Festival (part of the EDTA International Thespian Festival). I am an EDTA troop director who has advanced his theater troupe to the international Thespian society program in Lincoln, Nebraska. There is nothing like this for MCS MCS, apparently makes most of its money in order to enrich the top officers. I support the international Thespian society. But from what I have learned, I cannot support MCS!

I wanted to make public my response after the MCT response about my daughter's being felt dissmiss…read moreand lead being chosen twice in a row in small town like ours. About the lead being given to the same child twice. I understand what are you saying, but I think a bit of context is missing. McMinnville, OR is a small town in Oregon, with about 30,000 people. A camp that costs more than 300 a week the number of families that attend are about the same ones with the ability to pay and children interested in trying theater. Also, the few kids that go year after year get repeated quite a bit. I raised 4 children in this town, this is the community center my kids attended in Missoula back in the 2010s. Now the reason I am reaching out is because we have perceived a change. As I explained my older children attended and we had a very positive experience, they loved it and when attending the plays I was so impressed. Last year was a change. My niece who was visiting from Ecuador attended, and my daughter. The first time I heard there were lots of downtimes, also after the play it was clear a very tight group of a few kids very close to the Missoula staff while the majority were just basically on the sides. I stayed hours after observing and it was different so different. Now this year my daughter wants to try it again, and I do understand the pressures and that is why I asked and explained to her that she needed to ask. I also knew that depending on the part you get one rehearsal of that part is scheduled. Now I also talked to someone the morning she missed and told them she had talked to Ashland and she had given the ok. Now the upset is this. Her part was a group part with no real lines and the whole week to practice from Wednesday to Friday. She did talk to someone and me too. We were told ok. Then having Ashland simply say that she did not understand my daughter but never asked, and no effort to keep her on the play and send her backstage, and then having the director give us a sales talk about the backstage part and not in any way addressing my concern and my daughters? Felt dismissive and the point of Missoula that we loved felt lost. I even remember times were leads were split between two kids, roles were invented to add more kids, My children told me about it the ones now 22 and 24. Something change does not feel inclusive and the main job making kids part of something feels lost. Missoula staff just dismissed my daughter and that the teacher's lack of understanding was my daughter's fault. Children struggle to feel that they belong. The effort should be made to make them feel part of something. And believe me, you need to understand the town when kids see the same child be chosen to be a lead more than one year in a row, they know they remember and how you think it makes them feel?. Is a lot of effort for many families to pay the 300 for one week, to be ignored.
