Miss Hattie's shows up on top things up do in San Angelo. I went on a Thursday afternoon and made it before 4pm, so I was able to take a tour. They unlock the bordello take you upstairs, and have a self directed tour. One of the staff from the jewelry store is available to answer questions. You can walk into all the rooms and take photos inside. Some of the furniture is original. I loved the ceilings. It was a fun place to visit on an afternoon. It took me about 30 minutes to go through the museum.

Miss Hattie's Bordello Museum was really really neat! You could go on your own through it or have someone give you a tour with the background information. I love museums when they allow you to actually walk into the rooms and look up close at all of the things that you're interested in... This was one of those types of museums! Most all of the furniture pieces were original to the bordello and are here for you to see. The price of as of 4/1/25 was only $6 to get in! Very very much worth it! We definitely do recommend going to this museum when in San Angelo, Texas.

San Angelo is a fun town to visit, especially the downtown area where Miss Hattie's is located. Also in this area is a neighborhood pub, still operating general store with some of the best coffee and fudge, and cool antique and clothing shops you should take some time to wander through. You buy your tour passes at the jewelry store next-door which adds on to the small town charm in my opinion. They give you wooden tokens that mimic the ones men would buy back in the days the bordello operated to exchange for "favors" from the ladies. Miss Hattie apparently would charge the men based on their daily income. If you made a quarter a day, then that's what you paid. If you could afford a dollar, then your price reflected that. Never one to turn down a profit, she even installed a peep hole in the bathroom that looked into the adjoining bedroom. This was reserved for the more aggressive/rough around the edges men so she could still take their money while ensuring the safety of her girls. It's still there today and I have to admit, I respect a lady with a head for business. Our group met in the jewelry store before the tour started and took a moment to look around and browse their lovely pieces. My favorites are the ones with pearls from the nearby Concho River. They have a light purple/pink hue and are absolutely gorgeous. They had two girls leading our tour that day (one was training), and they did a great job explaining the history and answering questions. The bordello itself is only one floor, so most of the time you get to actually walk around on your own and explore which I thought was really cool. Each of the rooms have cards you can read with more information, and all the furniture and decorations are original (except the mattresses, don't worry) ;-) I don't want to give too much of the history away because it's such an interesting place that you really should check out to learn more. They encourage pictures here too and will even take shots for you on one of the original couches. Be sure to also ask about their haunted history. One of the rooms I couldn't even step into because it gave me too much of an eerie vibe (the poker room), and I later found out was the most active so perhaps that's why! We had our own activity happen while the tour guides were speaking. The downstairs door below us randomly clicked and creaked itself open on its own. The funny thing was this wasn't too long after they had demonstrated to us what the buzzer sounded like that Miss Hattie would ring whenever an invasion was about to happen so the girls could snatch their belongs and book it. Believer of the paranormal or not, it was still spooky. Come check it out and see for yourself! Kids are welcome on the tour too, just be prepared to answer lots of uncomfortable questions. Or you could simply say the rooms were used for pillow fights. Either way, you'll enjoy taking a step back in time.

It was the highlight of our trip to San Angelo. Very entertaining and in lighting about what women did to make it in a tough world.

Fort Concho is one of several preserved U.S. cavalry forts established in the 19th century designed to protect the west Texas frontier. This one was established in 1867, and the Fort Concho Foundation has done a good job preserving the remaining buildings. One of the Buffalo Soldier regiments was stationed here, but there's not a whole lot of info posted about their stay here. According to the Fort Concho web site, they have a guided tour Wednesday through Sunday. I visited on a Wednesday but was only informed of the self-guided tour ($3 per person). The self guided tour begins with the officers' quarters and is a bit disappointing. The buildings are wonderfully preserved but there's just not a lot to see or even read about. When I got to the enlisted side of the fort, there was a lot more info, history, and things to see. Park across the street for free in the farmer's market parking lot on South Oakes Street. Make sure you stop by the mule barn behind the enlisted barracks. It's not a historic building, but you can check our four or five mules if you like. Pro Tip: One of the buildings on the officers' side of the fort has an antique telephone museum located within. It has nothing to do with the fort, but it's still fun to checkout.

Modern architecture, nice patio outside, etc. I had no idea it would be so snoozy. Admission was $2 per adult, and honestly? It should be free! There's really NOTHING to see. The museum is only 3 floors, and the first floor consists of administrative offices. The second floor hosted a gift shop (small), a permanent exhibit (very small, 1 room) and a non-permanent exhibit, Sacred Visions, which was essentially just a bunch of creepy religious relics. There was a pretty fountain in the middle. The third floor hosted a permanent exhibit, which also consisted of religious relics. The entire time we were there, a docent followed us around creepily. I know docents are common in museums...but seriously? We were the ONLY people in the museum, and she was watching us like we were going to steal something. Not cool. It's a shame that this museum isn't more interesting. It seems like this neck of the woods would have a lot of old culture to it.

I was in town and killing time before meeting up with some people in the evening, and came across this as an option. I swung by and was thoroughly impressed. The young man behind the counter was friendly and walked me through where I'd be going and what I'd be seeing. I was the only one in the "next group" for the intro video, and he even delayed the start time since I ran to the restroom before roaming the grounds. They have an impressive display of artifacts ranging from early Texas all the way through the frontier days, including a very impressive array of historic guns towards the end. They have interactive kiosks and hologram displays where actors portray historical figures and tell "firsthand" accounts of what was experienced on the frontier, right out of the accounts left by those people beforehand. There's a second theater towards the end of the museum that's a lot more immersive. You have to rotate around in a swivel chair as the story is told from all around you, and there's lights and sound to really sell you on the experience-- all from the comfort of your air-conditioned chair. I don't plan on being back in Abilene anytime soon, but if I ever was back with friends, I'd take them here to check this place out.
