We stayed as long as we did because of…read morethe convenience, but looking back, there were numerous concerns about the way the center was operated that ultimately led us to withdraw our child earlier than planned. One of the first issues involved diapers and wipes. When we enrolled, the advertising clearly stated that diapers and wipes were included at no additional cost. About a year later, I noticed an extra charge on our account with no prior notice. When I questioned it, I was told I was mistaken and that they had never offered diapers and wipes at no charge. Fortunately, I still have a copy of the original advertisement showing otherwise. While I eventually let the issue go, it left me feeling that transparency and accountability were lacking. Over the years, I also became concerned about the number of times I was called to pick up my child because they supposedly had a fever. On multiple occasions, my child did not have a fever by the time I arrived. I also noticed these calls often seemed to happen when the center appeared to be short-staffed. I cannot say for certain what was happening behind the scenes, but it gave me the impression that staffing issues may have been influencing decisions about sending children home. Whether that was the case or not, it significantly eroded my trust. There were several other situations that, in my opinion, reflected poor business practices and questionable ethics. As parents, we place an incredible amount of trust in the people caring for and teaching our children. I expect honesty, transparency, and integrity from a childcare provider, and over time I no longer felt confident that those values were being upheld. The biggest confirmation that we made the right decision came after we left. Our child is noticeably happier, more excited about going to school, and their overall attitude has improved dramatically. That change alone tells me we made the right choice for our family. Every family's experience may be different, but based on ours, I can no longer recommend La Petite. I hope they take steps to improve their communication, transparency, and overall business practices because families deserve to feel confident in the care their children receive.

One of the first concerns happened when I picked her up and was told she had a diaper rash. The staff said Aquaphor wasn't working, so they used one of their own sprays instead. My response was, "Why aren't you using the Desitin we provided, clearly labeled with her name and accompanied by a doctor's note instructing you to use it?" They apologized and assured us they would use it going forward. This immediately raised concerns about attention to care, especially since diaper products should never be shared between children due to the risk of spreading illnesses like Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease (HFMD). On June 18, after a week at home with us, we dropped our daughter off and informed staff she had drool bumps on her chin because she was cutting two teeth at once. Later that day, we received a call saying she had a temperature of 99.4°F and was being sent home for suspected HFMD because she supposedly had bumps around her mouth, in her mouth, and in her diaper area. The "bumps" around her mouth were the same drool rash we had pointed out that morning, and they nearly disappeared after simply wiping her chin dry. She had no bumps in her diaper area and no mouth lesions. The next morning, her pediatrician examined her, laughed at the assessment, said she had absolutely no signs of HFMD, and cleared her to return. We met with the Director and Assistant Director to explain what happened. The Assistant Director admitted she hadn't been told about the drool rash or teething before making the assessment. We also brought up the earlier diaper cream incident and explained how concerning it was that our daughter's prescribed cream wasn't being used while they were quick to send children home over concerns about HFMD. We were assured these issues would be addressed. Then, in July, our daughter actually contracted HFMD. She had the classic symptoms: fever followed by lesions around her mouth, in her mouth, and on her hands and feet. We kept her home through her recovery, and once her pediatrician confirmed she was no longer contagious, we received another signed clearance note allowing her to return. The doctor also prescribed antibiotics for a mild ear infection, and we informed the daycare that the antibiotics could cause loose stools and diaper rash, asking them to apply her diaper cream accordingly. The first day back went well. However, the following morning, just one hour after dropping her off, I received another call telling me she was being sent home for suspected HFMD. They pointed to healed red marks under her chin from the previous infection, a small red mark on her finger that she's had since birth, and claimed her diaper area would "shock" me. When I got home and checked, she simply had a diaper rash from the antibiotic-related loose stools. There were no blisters, lesions, or signs of HFMD. Even more concerning, there was absolutely no evidence that her prescribed Desitin had been applied despite the daycare describing the rash as severe. Anyone who uses Desitin knows it leaves a visible white residue, and there was none. We took her back to the pediatrician, who again confirmed she had no signs of HFMD and again questioned whether the daycare was confusing her with another child. At that point, we decided to withdraw our daughter. As I packed up her belongings, one of the workers ran over laughing and said, "Can't forget this!" while handing me the nearly full tube of diaper cream. After five months, it looked like it had only been used a couple of times, despite multiple conversations, a doctor's note, and repeated reminders. I can't speak to the rest of the school, but our experience in the Angel's classroom left us extremely disappointed. We experienced repeated misdiagnoses that resulted in unnecessary doctor visits and missed work, along with repeated failures to follow a simple doctor's order to use our daughter's assigned diaper cream. For us, those issues reflected a lack of attention to detail and consistency that we simply could not overlook.

A week into my children attending I start getting these emails telling me to pay. I figured Urban League pays on a certain day of the month so I was just getting the messages by default. Then I received an actual text from the school asking me to pay and I was so confused. Why hadn't someone from the school told me? Today, same deal. I'm told $220 is due next week for summer camp. No flyers sent home with the school. No outline of what summer camp includes versus what's offered any other time of the year. It's daycare. I didn't realize summer was outside of their normal business hours. It's not like it's an elementary school and I'm paying for the kids to attend outside of the regular school year. Naturally, I was pretty upset. I went to pick up my kids and asked about this random $220. I was told that it's $110 per kid and it covers the entire summer (but the regular weekly tuition is still due). They bring in a petting zoo and have other fun activities. I wish I would have been told this in advance. I don't have a problem with it, what I have a problem with is the lack of communication. What if I didn't have the money? I am, after all, on Urban league. The fees and the services that go along with those fees should be clearly communicated. They shouldn't just be requesting payment. Outside of the communication issue it's a very nice school. My kids enjoy it. The facility is clean. They feed the kids two meals and a snack and they even have a graduation for the kids that are on their way to kindergarten. I love the school itself. The communication aspect of it absolutely needs work because I don't think they understand nor taken to consideration the hardship that comes with charging people fees without notice.

We viewed a few different places before finding Kindercare upon meeting with the Director, Kashmir and Assistant Director Lilly and viewing the facility. From talking to Kashmir and Lilly they were able to provide all information regarding the curriculum, expectations from the parents, they assist with potty training if needed and gave in depth information for holiday request and hours. Our daughter was very excited to meet them and within the first 15 minutes, felt like she was at home. It was in our daughter's best interest to start at this childcare center. The facility is very clean and orderly, and the staff is amazing. There is a wonderful worker named Stephanie who ensures that the place is always in tiptop shape as well making the conscious decision by exposing our children to great healthy options when it comes to their food. When paying for daycare at this location, it comes with their meals and snacks. My daughter's teachers over the years, started with Celeste who has been such a great influence on my daughter and ensures to make sure that she is taken care of from all her basic needs and beyond. There is Sophia, who is our current main teacher who she has a very close relationship with and insists to help her process her emotions. There is Latoya who makes sure that when my daughter or any child is upset gets time to create space and then voice their feelings and validate their concerns. Aaliyah helps with the curriculum and ensure the children are working on their sight words, colors, numbers shapes, volumes of objects, as well as the fun projects that they work on for the holidays in class. My'Unique works on pronunciation and phonics for them as well as gardening classes and culinary beginnings. Carmen is another teacher who may not have her directly in her class, but make sure to assist in any issues that occur with the students and jumps in to help out the other teachers as needed. Altogether the staff really works hard to ensure your children are taken care of on a multitude of levels and I highly recommend any parent to check out this facility as they really do accommodate the parents needs the best that they can and are always throwing several different events for the parents to be involved with our children. This has definitely been my favorite daycare and my daughter will continue to be remaining here even through her first year of school for all those holidays that they are off, including summer.
