This is one of the BEST hotels in Santa Cruz at a great rate. Rooms are basic, clean and everything works. Large flat screen TV's, Microwave and refridgerators. Beds are comfortable. There is a basic breakfast room with free breakfast from 7 to 9 AM. Staff is friendly and experienced. If you check in, in the afternoons / evenings, Ben, at the front desk, has been with the hotel a long time and knows his stuff! Rebecca, the manager is almost always there and willing to go the extra mile with great customer service. It's great to return and see the same familiar faces instead of new people like at big corporate hotels. The staff at this botique hotel makes you feel like family....a rare thing these days. This place was awesome! I mean was it a Ritzy stay? No but almost. I became overwhelmed looking on here for rooms and online and decided to choose from one of the discounted sites and I chose here. When I pulled up, I thought "oh no, is this gonna be a seedy place?". No, it wasn't. The room was much larger than I had expected, there was a fridge and a microwave in the room which would have been fantastic if I were staying longer than I was. The lady at check in was next level amazing customer service! She mentioned they had a sauna that she was willing to fire up if I had any interest (though I forgot my suit) and they also had a hottub that I fell asleep on. The breakfast option was a decent one as well, though I went for a coffee because it was a bit too early for a meal for me. There was a smoking area in the back that was lovely to hang out in. When I head back in this way I will be sure to stay here, absolutely! I mean, if a hotel is needed. I appreciated the refillable body wash, shampoo and conditioner in the showers. I also contemplated taking a bath because I was convinced the tub was slughtly larger than mine at home... though I didn't get around to it. I did notice there was no hair dryer in the room, though an ironing board and iron were available. Oh, there was also a safe in there too. TL;DR: Room smelled like VOMIT, staff were dismissive, "fixes" were UNSANITARY, and management offered NO ACCOUNTABILITY. DO NOT STAY HERE. ************* Severe hygiene failure. DO NOT STAY HERE. As soon as we moved the bedding, a strong and unmistakable VOMIT odor emerged. It was not surface-level. The smell was deeply embedded in the mattress and quickly spread through the room. It was overwhelming and made it impossible to sleep. We immediately contacted the front desk. Staff were dismissive, and the "fix" was UNSANITARY: stained sheets, uncovered pillows, and a blanket with no cover. No mattress protector was offered. We had to use a blanket found in the wardrobe (photos attached) and slept as far as possible from the source of the smell. We were told the hotel was fully booked and no alternative room was available. By that time it was past 11pm, traveling with an exhausted, asleep toddler, leaving was not realistic. We were forced to remain in an unsanitary room and try to manage the situation ourselves, literally rearranging the bed. I did not sleep due to the rancid odor. The hotel called this a "scent" complaint and said it was reported "nine hours after check-in." Misleading. The problem only appeared when the bed was used. A mattress contaminated with VOMIT is unacceptable at any time. We were sold a room that was NOT clean, NOT sanitary, and NOT fit for occupancy. This stay shows a failure to meet basic cleanliness standards, UNSANITARY attempts at resolution, unresponsive staff, and NO ACCOUNTABILITY. Upsides and downsides... Stayed here recently because the rate was a little better than elsewhere, breakfast was included, and they had parking. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room was clean and recently renovated - in fact, they were working on renovating nearby rooms, which wasn't an issue since we were only there in the evening. On the negative, the bathroom fan was underpowered and left the room feeling like a sauna after showering. Breakfast was kind of pathetic and it's over by 9:00 on weekdays so everyone there is trying to cram into a tiny room right before 9:00. They should have it open until 10:00 every day - and for God sake - do not be out of coffee! 3.5 stars. read more

TL;DR: Found blood-stained sheets upon checking-in. Staff did not change sheets, did not take the contaminated sheets away, and did not give us a new complete set of clean sheets when we asked. They did not offer a new room or a refund. When my wife asked to speak with the manager, the front-desk clerk called the police and falsely claimed we were trespassing, despite our fully paid, active reservation. The next morning the manager (Rebecca) called me, insulted me by insinuating that we had caused the blood stains ourselves, and after that issued a refund. Full story: My wife and I checked into our room and discovered blood and stains on the sheets and duvet in our room. The front-desk guy brought a "replacement set" but told us to put the bloody bedding outside because he "could not take it." So, they would not touch their blood-stained linens but expect the guests to handle them and change the bedsheets, exposing the guests to health risks! My wife then opened the replacement and found that it wasn't even a complete set -- just one top sheet and a duvet. We returned to the front desk, told the guy that we were going to find a different hotel and asked to talk to the manager about a refund. He refused to call the manager, saying he'd "get fired" if he called and claimed he could only text the manager (this was around 6 pm). He also refused to talk to the agent of the hotels.com service when Hotels.com called 3x to speak with him. No refund, no new room, no sanitary standards, no accountability. We calmly insisted that in this type of situation, calling the manager is a reasonable next step and we even waited while he checked in other guests. Instead, he called the police, said we were "trespassers", and ordered us to leave, which was illegal -- we had a paid, active reservation, and they had our money. At this point, the front-desk guy had not checked us out of the hotel, had not cancelled reservation or otherwise made any effort to terminate the contract. We left and booked elsewhere. Next day, I received a call from the manager, Rebecca. After I told her of our experience, she disingenuously insinuated that we had caused the blood stains ourselves (claimed "the staff said ... the blood stains were fresh" next morning - this is a LIE and an INSULT - we have photo-documented evidence). I requested that she compensate us for the cost of the (comparable) hotel to which we had to urgently relocate the previous evening - our actual financial damage caused by their actions - instead of refunding the cost of Mission Inn. She refused. She issued a refund for the Mission Inn room, though. Other reviews on here and on Google indicate that our experience is not an isolated incident: dirty bedding, staff rudeness, kicking out guests, guests being insulted and accused of lying about sanitary issues, the staff making false reports to police against guests - this all has been happening within the last few months. SHAMEFUL, GREED-SOAKED COWARDS HIDING BEHIND A BRAND NAME This hotel operates with the ethics of a parking ticket scam. During active flooding in California, we were advised not to travel for safety reasons. Any competent, humane business would understand that. This place did not -- because basic decency loses out to squeezing a guest for money. The front desk passed the buck and said customer care had to approve it. Customer care immediately said only the hotel could approve it.And then told me that they "Couldn't reach the hotel." Wait, what? That's not incompetence. That's a deliberate lie loop. When confronted, the hotel did what SPINELESS AND WEAK people do: they vanished. They stopped answering the phone and routed calls to a number with a full voicemail box, making it impossible to leave a message. No paper trail. No accountability. Just silence while they keep your money. This is greedy, cowardly, and dishonest behavior. They didn't even have the backbone to stand behind their refusal -- they hid like little cowards. If this hotel were confident in its policies, someone would answer the phone. I WAS a Hilton member. Watching a hotel knowingly ignore safety concerns while playing(?) dumb to protect their revenue is disgusting. This place gives the Hilton name a black eye. If you stay here and something goes wrong -- weather, emergency, cancellation -- expect finger-pointing, unanswered calls, and zero integrity. Go to the Mission Inn down the street. I had a similar situation with them in 2021 and was compensated immediately. Growing up in Santa Cruz, I have the privilege of knowing the best motels to stay at when I return for business trips. Mission Inn is a GEM on the west side. Rebecca (the hotel manager) made sure my stay was enjoyable and my room met my expectations. I was given a discount rate for booking a room for several dates. That was a bonus! We were there six days and the staff, both front desk and housekeeping were graciously accommodating to our needs. We checked in on a Friday afternoon. Not to bad of a spot close access to everything including restaurants next door and across the street. Pretty decent continental breakfast with biscuits and gravy as well as waffles. The only con was no WiFi available and the tv wasn't allowing the apps to be used. They both said available but when I called the front desk, the gentleman said they had just upgraded service and it takes up to 7 days for all the rooms to be working so sorry. What do you call a motel that feels more like a hotel? The Mission Inn in Santa Cruz! While my husband and daughter have stayed here before, this was my first time and I was pretty impressed. Check-in went smoothly and we were able to park near the door of our room. Once inside our room, I was surprised with how big it was. There was a large bathroom area (a long counter with sink and a separate toilet/tub/shower) with a closet separated by a hallway that had a side table with a coffee maker. Further in was our comfortable bed, chair, television, microwave, and refrigerator. The room looked updated and was very clean. It was pretty quiet so we were able to get some good rest. We made use of the hot tub in back of the inn and were lucky to have it to ourselves. Breakfast was so-so: Yoplait yogurt, hardboiled eggs, cheese sticks, bananas and oranges, bread and bagels for toasting, a waffle-maker, muffins, and biscuits/gravy. To me, the coffee available from a basic Nescafe machine tasted a little bitter so I preferred making it in our room. Today we decided to skip breakfast there and grabbed some huevos rancheros at our favorite taqueria instead. The location is fine. I wouldn't say it is walkable to the Boardwalk but it is doable. I Was Walked In On While Naked -- Three Times in One Stay I stayed at the Mission Inn - Santa Cruz for one night (Aug 3-4, 2025), and staff entered our room three times without permission -- including once while I was fresh out of the shower and completely undressed. We were in Room 115. The first staff member entered about 35 minutes after check-in. Minutes later, two employees opened the door again -- one came inside, walked across the room, and lingered at the sink -- without acknowledging me at all, even though I was lying in my pajamas on the bed. The next morning, another staff member walked in with no knock while I was naked. I told the manager (Rebecca) at checkout. She said she would escalate it and then went on vacation. I emailed the hotel's general account and received no response. This was beyond unprofessional -- it was invasive, humiliating, and unsafe. I gave them every chance to resolve it privately. Nothing. I was having higher expectations for $475 a night. Maybe it was the wad of pubic hair behind the bathroom door that got us off on a bad start. This was a $280/night at best! I've stayed at better hole in the wall places in Mexico. After a 3 hour car ride for a mom's weekend, my girlfriend and I arrive at the Mission Inn. The pics looked great on the website and decent on Yelp. So we went for it. The lovely lady who made my reservation was a bubble of joy and very pleasant. However, when we arrived, there was a younger grumpy man who acted like we just interrupted his game of magic the gathering on his computer. Extremely brief, pay me, card, bye. The office had a pungent smell of cologne and thought it was the man who checked us in. Which, later the next day discovered it was just a horrible air freshener when we returned the key. We didn't spend much time in the room. Frankly because it was more comforting outdoors where it felt clean. We also chose this place because it offered a continental breakfast. Which was way below subpar. Even the coffee was whack and see through like tea. So we stopped at the gas station for new coffee. The bagel tasted like they came off the day old rack at Safeway. I should of snapped pics of the breakfast but I was more concerned about the woman coughing her head off on all of the food. So I just grabbed a pokadoted banana and bounced. I have over 560 reviews on yelp and it's always painful when I write a bad one. My friend and both agreed, we will never ever stay here again. I believe our room was 114 or 116. One or the other. The room and inn in general was very clean and I appreciated the fountain and flowers and plants in the entrance. The room was very clean, receptionist were friendly, only gave a 4+ because it has wall shampoo, conditioner, and body wash and although I carry my own self-care items I forgot body wash and it was empty in the room, but it was quickly refilled. I booked the day of staying at it ended up being $198 a night which I think was still too high for what you get. Little things like logging onto Netflix and it pausing every several minutes for no apparent reason (happened to me and my family member staying in another room). Unfortunately, as a retired special teacher for 30 years and a physically disabled individual, I felt it was mine obligation to warn people about this place, and I was traded for my aid who had to go in and register for me, not telling them that I have a service dog Because I don't speak to service dogs what manager told me and she said she had every right to raise the nightly charges. Be aware the number they give you is gonna change they quote a price when you get there they quote another price and then of course they add the $50 deposit. I'm waiting to see if my friend gets his money back. And what about the group of service providers that pull in the back of the motel and congregate back there ones mobile window paint replacement business type thing and then there's other service vehicles that rent rooms back there all of the back around the corner where it there is so much blue handicap parking signs, it blankets the wall of the motel. area. I booked a room for my friend Brian, who was visiting from Hong Kong, at this hotel, and we had a terrible experience. When Brian arrived, the man at the front desk claimed he couldn't find his reservation. So, I drove over from my house to help sort things out. Amazingly, as soon as I arrived, he found Brian's reservation almost instantly--but his attitude was rude and disrespectful toward both of us. He even lied, saying he couldn't locate the reservation earlier, despite having given Brian the confirmation number. It was painfully clear that he was deliberately being difficult with Brian because he's Chinese, and he only decided to "find" the reservation as soon as I, a white guy, walked in. When I confronted him about this obvious discrimination, he told me to "be careful if I want a [expletive] reservation." We decided to leave, and I want to warn others to stay far away from this place. No one should be treated like this--especially at a business that's supposed to be welcoming. Our first night there was a group in a room next to us being loud and the night mgr put a stop to it. That was great. My only complaint is that the AC rattled after about 10 min and got pretty loud. 100% sure they did not clean my sheets before I got in. When I opened up the bed I found a bunch of very fine, short, dark hairs not belonging to me on the left side where I hadn't lied down to watch TV before. Some of them even looked like dog hairs. I didn't sit and take extensive pictures because they were spread out and I was tired, but I promise it was more than just the few in the pics lol. The pillows I hadn't used also had some. I had missed them during my bedbug inspection earlier because they were so fine. It was already midnight so I didn't bother calling down for a new room - who knows how long that would take? So a less than restful night mostly on top of the blankets fully clothed lol. Everything else was pretty groovy. continental breakfast was ok (biscuits and gravy and boiled eggs, yogurt, waffles, etc) but knowing my sheets weren't washed kind of took the shine off. On a quick trip to Santa Cruz, we found Mission Inn through Yelp. I research many hotels before I stay at one and Mission Inn seemed to check all the boxes. It was close enough to the boardwalk and close to everything. We got there around 5 and check in was easy. I was able to book a 6:00 slot for the hot tub/jacuzzi. The staff was friendly and rooms were clean and comfortable. Because of the pandemic, the hot tub is only through reservations (which I love) and breakfast is grab and go (although people were eating at the tables?). We booked the King suite with the jetted tub and it was a great decision. My son loved the extra space and tub. We will definitely consider staying here on our next trip. The man behind the counter was very friendly and nice. We got there at 5 pm and was given the key. The housekeeper was still cleaning the room. I'm glad we didn't arrive at 3 when we could have checked in. He told us he was sorry and didn't have another room and that it would be an hour. Because he was so pleasant about it I wasn't upset. He offered the use of the hot tub. We went and parked by the room to wait. Fortunately it was only a 5 minute wait not an hour. The room was clean and nice! I liked the flooring. We enjoyed our one night stay here. The room was spacious, it was pretty cool because there was a heater in the bathroom, and the room was clean (but I still wiped down high surface area's with disinfectant lol). The room was quiet and we had a good nights sleep! So we would stay here again! Check in was easy and fast and there was ample parking in the lot. However, those parking spots were pretty small! So we tried to park next to an area where a pole or plant area was. We come to Santa Cruz every year to visit family in the area and we've had a difficult time finding an affordable hotel here that isn't seedy. The Mission Inn turned out to be a great find this year: it's old, as the majority of motels in this area are, but it's clean and better kept than most. The location is good; we were here four days and walked almost everywhere we needed to go: there are bars and restaurants within a block or two, supermarkets and coffee likewise within a ten-minute walk. The staff was warm and friendly, and the complimentary breakfast had a lot of quality choices. Being a motel, the rooms open onto the street but the traffic noise wasn't too bad. What kept this motel from getting five stars, aside from the old furniture, is the bed. The mattress was saggy and lumpy, and the pillows bargain-basement cheap and uncomfortable. It literally is the worst sleep I've had in a hotel in recent memory. I'd probably stay here again if I needed to save money, but if I had more to spend I'd go for someplace more comfortable. read more

I was very happy to have meet the lobby guy at 11pm, late check in. He was wearing a mask and felt safe. However, my girlfriend is disabled and it is vey unfair that our room was in the second floor, with no elevator. The bath-tope - jacuzzi are only available at the second floor; this being a very important factor for our reservation and her health (she needs the bath jacuzzi to cool down her pain). This was all ok, until I saw the staff in the morning not wearing a mask. There goes my 1 start review. Delta is spreading because of negligence services and people like there is in this hotel. Will definitely stay here again! We stayed in one of their suites with two queen beds and a queen pull out. We paid $10/night to also rent a crib and we very comfortably fit four adults, two kids, and a baby. The room was beautiful as was the building and landscaping. Lots of beautiful trees and flowers. The morning breakfast had a lot of options, most of them very enjoyable (just avoid the biscuits and gravy). As long as you're not expecting a five star breakfast experience, you'll be more than satisfied. There are no elevators and suites are only located on the second floor. No pool, but hot tubs and saunas available, we didn't see them ourselves. read more

This place, my god. By far my favorite hotel thus far! I was not expecting all we've received since being here. Staff are friendly! The lady at the front desk was nice, I called to book for the weekend & she told me if I book on INNsight.com I can save a $10 fee. So I went ahead & did that. We booked for a same day stay. We wanted a little weekend getaway. We arrived around 8pm on Friday. Checked in, had to give our license plate # in order to park on the vicinity without problems (which was perfect) they also have plenty of parking, so that wasn't a problem either! We booked the "King Jacuzzi Suite" & our room was perfect. I was skeptical at first because there are no pictures of the jacuzzi online or on yelp. So I wasn't sure if we should pay the extra $20 for the room with jacuzzi or just get the regular king suite for $20 less, but we took our chance & so glad we did! Our room was upstairs, facing Mission St. right next to the vending machine, ice machine & breakfast room so that was a plus! Office was right down stairs by breakfast room. So we had everything at arms reach. They do have a complimentary breakfast from 7-11am. English Muffin, Garlic Muffin, Plain Bagel, Waffles, 4 different kinds of cereals, Fresh Fruit, Yogurt, Boiled Eggs, Microwavable Breakfast Sandwiches, Milk, OJ & Water! Room was in pristine condition! Smelled fresh! Everything was clean! For 2 nights (check in Friday, check out Sunday) 2 adults & 1 toddler in the King Jacuzzi Suite, it was $258.94! Not bad, Friday rates are $109/night. Saturdays $119/night. Not including taxes & additional fee's. I would definitely recommend this INN if you're in the Santa Cruz area! read more

We enjoyed our stay here! The pros are: we were able to take an hour hot tub by ourselves; they have a breakfast room where they had yogurt, organic hard boiled eggs, cereal, cheese, pastries, granola bars, fruit, and you were able to make Belgian waffles! It was clean, they have a decent size fridge, and the customer service was great! Props to Rebecca! Also, they have Comcast for cable and premium channels were included and there was a decent size flat screen tv. One thing I really appreciated was having a place on the lamp to plug in your phone! The cons: the heater was noisy and I had to turn up the tv to compensate for that; however, it wasn't constant, but still a little annoying. Also, the people upstairs sounded like they were moving furniture. I would have preferred to have the breakfast room open till 11, instead of ten. Also, it's upstairs. It's not really close to the Boardwalk, if that's the reason you're staying there; however, it's only a ten minute drive. Overall, I would stay there again, since it was a good hotel at a decent price. It was a little more expensive than some of the other places, but worth it! read more

Also please check out the phone and room number photo. To be clear, we didn't have any trouble with Mike, the front desk staff who helped figure out the shower late at night. The difficulty was with the woman who checked in my parents around 6 pm (didn't get the name) and with the woman who checked them out the next morning. I booked this place with credit card points and was a little nervous since hotel quality can be so spotty. The staff was extremely kind and helpful over the phone when I called ahead to make a special request, and pleasant at check in. Our room was basic yet clean and had all the amenities of a standard hotel room. We stayed over a weekend and there was only a small amount of short lived noise from neighboring rooms. The beds were comfortable and linens clean. Would recommend! read more
