TL;DR: Found blood-stained sheets upon checking-in. Staff did not change sheets, did not take the contaminated sheets away, and did not give us a new complete set of clean sheets when we asked. They did not offer a new room or a refund. When my wife asked to speak with the manager, the front-desk clerk called the police and falsely claimed we were trespassing, despite our fully paid, active reservation. The next morning the manager (Rebecca) called me, insulted me by insinuating that we had caused the blood stains ourselves, and after that issued a refund. Full story: My wife and I checked into our room and discovered blood and stains on the sheets and duvet in our room. The front-desk guy brought a "replacement set" but told us to put the bloody bedding outside because he "could not take it." So, they would not touch their blood-stained linens but expect the guests to handle them and change the bedsheets, exposing the guests to health risks! My wife then opened the replacement and found that it wasn't even a complete set -- just one top sheet and a duvet. We returned to the front desk, told the guy that we were going to find a different hotel and asked to talk to the manager about a refund. He refused to call the manager, saying he'd "get fired" if he called and claimed he could only text the manager (this was around 6 pm). He also refused to talk to the agent of the hotels.com service when Hotels.com called 3x to speak with him. No refund, no new room, no sanitary standards, no accountability. We calmly insisted that in this type of situation, calling the manager is a reasonable next step and we even waited while he checked in other guests. Instead, he called the police, said we were "trespassers", and ordered us to leave, which was illegal -- we had a paid, active reservation, and they had our money. At this point, the front-desk guy had not checked us out of the hotel, had not cancelled reservation or otherwise made any effort to terminate the contract. We left and booked elsewhere. Next day, I received a call from the manager, Rebecca. After I told her of our experience, she disingenuously insinuated that we had caused the blood stains ourselves (claimed "the staff said ... the blood stains were fresh" next morning - this is a LIE and an INSULT - we have photo-documented evidence). I requested that she compensate us for the cost of the (comparable) hotel to which we had to urgently relocate the previous evening - our actual financial damage caused by their actions - instead of refunding the cost of Mission Inn. She refused. She issued a refund for the Mission Inn room, though. Other reviews on here and on Google indicate that our experience is not an isolated incident: dirty bedding, staff rudeness, kicking out guests, guests being insulted and accused of lying about sanitary issues, the staff making false reports to police against guests - this all has been happening within the last few months. This behavior is beyond reprehensible. We will be filing complaints with local health authorities and consumer protection agencies.

What do you call a motel that feels more like a hotel? The Mission Inn in Santa Cruz! While my husband and daughter have stayed here before, this was my first time and I was pretty impressed. Check-in went smoothly and we were able to park near the door of our room. Once inside our room, I was surprised with how big it was. There was a large bathroom area (a long counter with sink and a separate toilet/tub/shower) with a closet separated by a hallway that had a side table with a coffee maker. Further in was our comfortable bed, chair, television, microwave, and refrigerator. The room looked updated and was very clean. It was pretty quiet so we were able to get some good rest. We made use of the hot tub in back of the inn and were lucky to have it to ourselves. Breakfast was so-so: Yoplait yogurt, hardboiled eggs, cheese sticks, bananas and oranges, bread and bagels for toasting, a waffle-maker, muffins, and biscuits/gravy. To me, the coffee available from a basic Nescafe machine tasted a little bitter so I preferred making it in our room. Today we decided to skip breakfast there and grabbed some huevos rancheros at our favorite taqueria instead. The location is fine. I wouldn't say it is walkable to the Boardwalk but it is doable. Overall, I feel this is a good value for Santa Cruz and would stay here again.

Nice Hotel, Great Value, Great place to stay! If you're looking for an honest review of this hotel, then read my full review of this place, and check out my pics and videos of the place! I'm gonna give you the REAL! CHECK-IN - Super easy! Justin was the best! Friendly, professional, and very informative. He got us checked-in hassle free, and with him being born & raised in Santa Cruz, he was able to give us quick history lesson on Santa Cruz which was very cool! Thanks Justin PARKING - Plenty of parking! Easy. ROOM - Very Nice! Very Clean, Nicely decorated, Welcoming, Comfy, and did I say CLEAN! Very Clean! Plenty of light throughout the room, the Air Conditioning unit was super clean and was kicking nice cold air! BED - 8/10 - I won't lie, when I first laid on the bed, I immediately thought I was in for a tough night. But to my surprise, I slept pretty well on the bed. Had a couple good night's rest on it. BATHROOM / VANITY - Very Clean! Water runs nice and HOT! Took a nice Hot shower after a long day! Toilet and shower were spotless and clean! The Dove body wash soap was appreciated. Smooth and smelled great! No weird skin irritations, or rashes, nothing crazy. Just some good body wash! NOISE LEVEL - Good! I've seen a few reviews stating that there was a lot of traffic noise due to the hotel being right on a main street. But that was not my experience. My wife and I slept pretty sound, did not have any outside noise interference when sleeping. But I have to mention we sleep with the window closed. Lol. Perhaps those other reviews were from people who sleep with the window open, which is something I do not advise Lol! CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST - Solid! Don't expect to get restaurant quality food, it is a "Continental Breakfast" not a diner! Nice seating area overlooking the street, stocked with all of the necessities, coffee, cream, juices, cereal, fruit, waffles, bagels, toast, danishes, yogurt, cheese, milk, and even biscuits and gravy. Didn't really like the biscuits and gravy, but again this is a continental breakfast. The waffles were good though! Especially fresh off the press with a little butter, syrup and whip cream! Coffee was solid! Nice and bold, and plenty of sugars, creams, half & halfs etc. The juice was really watered down. I love some good OJ or Apple Juice in the morning, but this juice was watered down. Not mad at it, but this is one area that can easily be improved. PRICE/VALUE - 10/10 - $150 per night - For Santa Cruz, you cannot beat this Price & Value! The best bang for your buck in this town! OVERALL- 9/10 - I've stayed at some pretty pricey, high end hotels. And don't have the expectation of a Four Seasons, or Hyatt Regency. This is a good, independently operated, in town Motel. It's maintained very well, very clean, good front end management, Justin was great! And, its priced very reasonably near the beach! There are some areas where you can see its age, such as older finishing like door handles, trim, the tub (I did the standard King not the Jetted Tub) but its been maintained very well! Thank you Mission Inn for a very pleasant stay! If I'm ever back in Santa Cruz, I'll check-in!

Comfortable place to stay in a convenient location! Check in was quick and the employee was very thorough in explaining the ammenities and details about the property. The property is walking distance to many eateries, Humble Sea brewery, Cat and cloud Coffee, wine tasting rooms, a bike trail. The room was clean and comfortable. Hardwood floors, comfy bed, nice sink area and bathroom. I would definitely return.

Ask the Community - Mission Inn

Am I able to request for a late checkout on a weekday?

Hello, thank you for reaching out. Our normal check out time is by 11 AM. We can usually go as late as Noon at no additional charge. Checking out after 12 PM is subject to additional charges. After 2 PM is a full charge for a full night.

Is the "in-room jacuzzi" really a jacuzzi for two? The pics I've seen are all bathtub sized does anyone have updated information on it? Thanks!

Yes the King Jacuzzi Suite has a jacuzzi bathtub. It definitely fits 2 people comfortably. I'd recommend bringing candles as the bathroom light is super bright & can't be dimmed. This room is definitely worth it! If not, they do have a outdoor…

Can you check in early here ?!?

Yes you can, you can check in & out early. No problem.

Super thoughtful person. Our room was clean and large and very much in line with an expectation from a Hyatt place. Considering this Hyatt place isn't very old, some of the furnishings and fixtures were quite worn. Also, considering that this was a Sunday, the hotel was full. The fridge was spacious, allowing all our items to fit. We brought lots of fruit and food options for our little one to graze. The microwave was spacious and clean. There were coffee and tea options in room with powder creamer. The liquid creamer was reserved for the lobby. Not ideal. I was informed by the front desk that I needed to speak to the manager. I was transferred to the manager numerous times and the manager did not answer and the manager did not return any of my calls. I left a few voicemails regarding the issue along with my phone number, but the manager never called back. I also left messages with the front desk to have the manager reach out to me regarding these charges, and the manager never called back. I don't know who the manager is at this hotel, but it is extremely unprofessional not to return customers calls regarding charges or issues. I had to take up the issue with my credit card and submitted all my proof to my credit card so I could get the money back. Thankfully, my credit card was able to return the funds. I do advise, make sure you have all proof needed if you cancel your hotel reservations with this place because in my case, they did not honor their cancellation policy and still charge me full price for the room. If it wasn't for this unprofessional manager, this would still be one of our favorite hotels in the area. Currently, I'm unsure if I will continue or book at this place again due to my most recent experience.

Because the gaff was clearly on my shoulders, management could have shrugged their shoulders and smirked at my blunder. Instead, the front desk team went out of their way to assist me without raising an eyebrow. Calm and friendly, I applaud the professional service I received. As for the hotel itself, the rooms are fresh, modern and clean. When visiting Santa Cruz, I will absolutely stay at Paradox (and promise to show up on the correct day.)

Truly, you can see the paint over whatever color it used to be. And no matter how nice the inside may be, that set the stage for our stay. It feels like teenagers are running the front desk. Ok, maybe they're in college. Their system was down when we visited, so even though we got a king size bed and laid extra, we ended up with a queen. No discount on our room, only extra points added to our loyalty account. Here's the kicker... our original room had someone already inside smoking weed, so they gave us access to someone else's room and now it probably smells like weed. And because they gave us access to other people's room, we couldn't trust leaving anything in the next room we were given. Pool is crowded. They were serving beer/wine/popcorn, but we didn't take advantage.
