What an absolute gem! We loved the Inn at Depot Hill! Before even arriving service was topnotch. We were sent instructions for check in with a video and could text with the manager at any time. The rooms are spacious and very nice and unique. The daily breakfast is great and you'll know the day before what the menu is. There is communal coffee, tea, hot water, a microwave and small fridge and freezer. There's also a nice sitting area outside. The location is amazing for walking around Capitola. A car is not needed if you're staying here and plan to keep your activities in the area. You're walking distance from the beach, restaurants, bars, markets, and grocery stores. If you're staying in Capitola, do yourself a favor and stay here!

    Kyoto room

We recently stayed two nights in the Kyoto room at the Inn at Depot Hill. It was absolutely wonderful. The room itself is secluded at the back of the property with its own little zin courtyard. There are dedicated parking spots for the Kyoto room and the room above it right outside a nearby gate. The 2-person soaking tub was every bit as amazing as it sounds. Sagar was warm and welcoming and truly attended to our every need. He showed us the property and gave us a thorough explanation of the room. They bring breakfast to the room each morning. The first morning was delicious and honestly the second morning probably was , too, for most guests, but the baked eggs just weren't our thing. Everything was prepared beautifully though, so absolutely no fault to the chef. Additionally, there are fresh baked cookies and wine available in evenings as well as games available to play in the main entry area. Overall, I loved everything about our stay and we will definitely be back next time we are in Capitola!

I really enjoyed the location, service, and amenities. This property is historic so of course it is dated in areas, but it's more romantic and charming than anything else. It felt like stepping back in time, especially entering the railroad baron room. We enjoyed the deep soaking tub and the fireplace. The breakfast was really good. Upon check-in, we were warmly greeted and provided instruction and even slightly early entry to our room. There was a decent, albeit basic, complementary cheese and cracker and wine hour which we enjoyed in the garden area. It was also close enough to walk to the Capitola shops and beach in 5 min. I'd gladly return!

What a cute Inn! We stayed at Costa de Sol Room which was beautifully decorated and had a private outdoor patio. The room was clean, decor was as expected (looked like the pictures), and there was even music playing in the room when we first checked in! That was a beautiful touch! The location was PERFECT - walking distance to pretty much everything you need for a weekend! The stay included breakfast. We were served 2 buttermilk pancakes with maple syrup, 1 sausage, small fruit cup, orange juice, and coffee. We opted for breakfast brought to our room to eat at our outdoor patio. We thought the food was just fine, nothing special. There were a few small details that would have made our stay even better: 1) Check in time - I wish the check in time was clearer. The online email said 3:00pm, but the sign said 4:00pm when we arrived. The front door was locked (there was a sign to call a number for arrival), but we just came back in an hour instead. 2) The hot and cold water was not labeled in the bathroom. We figured it out, but it took some time. 3) the bed was a bit hard, but maybe this is probably a personal preference. Overall, we loved our stay and would consider staying at this Inn again, but in a different room for a different experience.

It works really well when you know you'd like to be close enough to beaches and parks, low-key restaurants and cafes, but not in a noisy place. The rooms are comfortable, a bit quaint, at times they show a bit of age. Still, this unique inn is big enough to be a thoroughly professional clean and cozy venue. I've been here twice now, and would stay again. Helpful, daily housekeeping service is appreciated. At at time when many places offer this a few times a week, or maybe only by request, Bella Notte keeps you well-stocked and ready for your stay. The gentleman behind the desk is friendly and helpful. I recall having to phone the Inn a few times prior to booking, and he was knowledgeable and patient. (I sometimes couldn't fully get their website to work) The small parking lot is big enough so cars have plenty of room to park and to move. The location of the Inn is somewhere between the West Side of Santa Cruz and Capitola to the east. Many things to do -- or not do, if you like. I realized that on Sunday there is a long-standing farmers market just a couple blocks away. Also, there's a couple places to for breakfast and lunch, as well as a small Mexican bakery/store nearby. No pix, sorry! Still, definitely recommend.

(Check the filtered/hidden reviews.) Wellstone is marketed as a retreat center for aspiring writers, but it does indeed feel more like a shoddy youth hostel. The main house may have once been majestic, but it has fallen into a state of disrepair. The accommodations were poorly maintained and unsanitary, with ripped furniture, non-functioning lamps, and mildew in my bathroom. The grounds were in a sad state, with a filthy pool and unusable hot tub that had only a few inches of dirty water. The mattress was so old, uncomfortable, and sagging that I simply didn't sleep. The bedding had some unidentifiable stains that appeared to be fluids, which was quite concerning. When I brought it up with the hosts, they seemed completely unconcerned and dismissed me. The bath towels were old, scratchy, and smelled of mildew. As others have mentioned, the hosts request that you use cloth napkins - which is great, except that they do not wash theses napkins between meals. They instead instructed us to re-use other guests' napkins at subsequent meals, which is dangerously unhygienic. Reminder that I came here to write. It was a terrible place for me to write, in part because there's a loud family that lives in the house, and in part because there were no lights. That's right -- no lights bright enough to read by. A few mood lamps, nothing more. I am not a morning person and do most of my writing in the evenings. At sundown, I was forced to be done with all reading. It was too dark to read my book drafts, which I'd printed out; let alone any primary sources, books I was using for research. Unless you happen to bring a headlamp or a bevy of your favorite floor-lamps, you will also be out of luck. Make sure to read the other reviews that have been filtered out before you decide to apply for this "writing retreat." For me, it was neither a retreat nor a useful place to write. I wish I'd booked a hotel instead. You might want to consider the same.

After we checked in and got to the room it was nice my kids got a kick out the small balcony we stayed on the second floor. The staff that served breakfast and room service did amazing. They greeted us every time we crossed paths with a good morning, or enjoy your day. It definitely made up for the lack of customer service at the front desk. We stayed 2 nights and over all the location was PERFECT. Everything you could need in walking distance. We drove to the civic auditorium and the boardwalk both took just a 15 min drive from the hotel. I drive a Nissan armada and the parking was tight getting in and out but doable if you're a good driver, lol. I noticed upon leaving people just left the luggage cart in the garage after loading their car shame on them because traveling with my 4 kids I was thinking people actually returned these when they finished. Nope, they don't so don't wait around for one just look in the garage.

The hotel has a bit of a B&B vibe, but each room has its own bathroom, and there is no need to share space with other guests. The rooms are small, but cozy and clean. There is "OK" WiFi, a mini-fridge, a TV, etc. We booked the "Nevis" room, as it is the only room with an Ocean View. (The View is across the center of the village, but still, you can see and hear the ocean. If you want Ocean View / Ocean Front, this is not your hotel.) The main reason to stay at Capitola Hotel is to come to the Village, park your car, and be done with the car for the duration of your stay. EVERYTHING is within walking distance or a short Uber. You can hit the shops, the restaurants, the beach, the bars, etc. with a short flip-flop walk from the front door. If you book early, they have garage parking, which is EPIC in Capitola Village. They also have beach chairs, umbrellas, etc. that you can use free of charge. There's coffee and lite breakfast in the morning, and happy hour in the evening. My wife's comment after we settled in was literally, "OK, you need to book this room, for this weekend, every year, for the next ten years."
