Mission (KATHY!) saved us days of headache! We arrived on Friday (8/7/26) and initially we were told we could store our trailer at our place. Unfortunately that was not the case. So, first night, we had to stay in a hotel in order to park our trailer somewhere. Spent most of Friday evening and Saturday morning calling places. Talked to Kathy at the front desk and she was able to find the last available spot that would work for our size trailer! And right here in SLO! We really thought we were going to have to drive an hour to store it. Anyway, Kathy was amazing-explained the contract throughly, I understood how my billing would be handled, showed me how to use my code to open the gate, and even shared where the bathroom was! What storage unit has a bathroom?! We even got interrupted by a customer moving their stuff out (moving away) and as they left, they mentioned to Kathy how well they've been treated and if they come back, they will definitely come back to Mission. That sealed the deal for me. We are so appreciative that we came across Kathy and Mission! Highly recommend! 5 stars all the way! read more

They have always been very courteous and friendly. I've been with them for 5 or six years now, renting a 5x5 unit. They HAVE hiked their prices, including late fees and lien fees, but it's also been 5 or six years, so that's to be expected. Michelle is usually who I talk to when I call to pay my rent, and she is just the sweetest. If you pay in person too, there is free coffee. The location is clean, gated, and has elevators and trolleys, and a pretty decent security system. They also have a 9 day grace period, and won't start late fees until the 10th, which is great, and has saved my bacon multiple times. If you call them off hours, or when they are busy, you will get their answering services. Don't pay via the answering service. I have made this mistake, and they failed to actually run the card properly, resulting in a late fee when i thought I'd already paid. Talk to an actual employee of the storage center though, and they are polite and know what they are doing. :) read more

There's so much I could tell you about but I'll just say you will regret renting a unit from them unless you pay top dollar for one on the mission storage side the mighty safe mini storage is the worst and ran by awful, unprofessional people. I strongly recommend Mission Storage, I've been renting a space there for 4 1/2 years and have been consistenly impressed with the place. My unit is indoors and on the second floor, the elevator makes acess easy. I especially appreicate their security system. Entry is a code / gate system and if you open a storage unit that does not match the code you entered at the gate it sets off an alarm and staff responds quickly. Last but not least, the staff has always been kind, friendly, and helpful. I'm moving out soon because I'm moving to a bigger place. But, if needed, I would absolutely rent space from them again. I moved into Mission Storage when I arrived in San Luis Obispo in late 2014 and my stuff is still there. I picked it because of their location and how the property looked, overall. The place is clean and secure. One gripe I had was their hours weren't as long as other places but that recently changed when new owners took over and increased the access hours to 8pm. The new owners are also increasing the monthly rent yearly now. Previously it seems the rent didn't go up as much, maybe every 2 years. I started at $75 for my small space and now I'm up to $88 in 2019. Overall I would still say this is my best choice for storage compared to other places I checked out. read more

The review from Mel V. is not a valid one. Contracts are written and are supposed to be read thoroughly before signing. It is very clear on the contract as to their policy about non prorated service and notification of vacation of unit. The storage facility is well keep, modern and very clean. I have seen no evidence of rodent problems or any other pest at the property. Sounds like a case of sour grapes. Been a customer here for several years. Very reliable, very helpful, I always see someone on site (unless they are on lunch which is around lunchtime - they have lunch hours too, ya know). I put in my 30 days notice to move out of my unit, but just days before, I realized I had to extend another month and it was so easy and they were understanding and made it so smooth. My things were safe but that is the only positive feedback I can give. Basically it's a scam and they switch their rates based on who answers the phone. I had thought I was on automatic payment but apparently when you call and give your card information you must state this is not to just be put on file. I usually make my reviews just about the facts and go information without personal issues. Let me first state that this is a secure location, they have several different sizes of units, there are exterior units and interior units, and it is locked gate access with a code. There is also some vehicle storage on site. As far as times when no one is in the office they seem to have another storage facility they manage and they could be over at that one at those times . You would think there would be some reliable way to get a hold of them so that they can come back over and take care of business at Mission. Now I will give you my personal issues with mission and this is strictly based on my situation and my personal experience, editorialized. I thought Mission Storage would be a good place to keep my stuff because it is close to my home, looks clean, and has indoor access for several units. Once they get you in the unit you are at their Mercy. They know that I am on a very limited budget and I have paid my rent albeit late much of the time so you would think that they would anticipate the payment. Instead, I get a notice of lien and end up having to pay another $50 on top of my rent. Really? 150%? When I am hit up the day after the 10th? That is when they hit you with the late fee. Go another week and they hit you up with a lien fee. Wow lots of extra profit there when you increase a person's rent by another 50% and make it even more difficult for him to make ends meet and buy food . Not only that but the rents go up as well as the fees. They they have not shown any heart to me and unless you are a well off business or customer that has no issue paying on time and paying whatever they want to charge, you should consider yourself useless to them and they could find some way to make you mad and most likely get rid of you. At least that is the way it seems to me. Now that I am posting this I would not be surprised if they use it as an excuse to push me even harder. Of course they are in the business to make money. I understand that. But the fact is this is a very highly profitable business and I am sure they can be a slight bit flexible when they understand a person has hardships. I am in the process of making room in my extra bedroom by purging stuff so I can bring things home to be out of there. One problem in SLO is that they don't have to care because every year they sell out when Cal Poly students go home for the summer. It is hard to find storage space in San Luis Obispo bringing us back again just seeming heartless and highly profitable. Once they pay their mortgage taxes insurance and a couple of employees, it is a lot more money for them then the very limited income I get being disabled. As a closing thought, what if the reason they are doing this to me is because they know I will pay? Perhaps if I was someone that they could not be sure they would collect from they would not be hitting me up with these fees so fast. Food for thought? read more

We were in a real pinch today and Mission had one unit available that would work for us but that is not the reason for the review. Michelle the manager was great and very helpful. As we were moving my daughters stuff into the unit she came over and asked how things were going and brought us some cold bottled waters. The unit was clean as was the restroom and they had plenty of dollies to help unload the truck. You get a lot of negative reviews on storage places, like the one below regarding the pro-ration of rent, however, the contract is clear, "WE DO NOT PRORATE RENT". Pretty simple. read more

It's usually quiet and easy to access your stuff, and I've always had good interactions with the staff when necessary, which isn't too often. I have been at Mission Storage Centers for 5 years. The facility is clean, the staff is very friendly and courteous. One time I left my unit locked wrong and that day they called to say they had put a lock on to secure my door till I could come by again. The negative review said they wouldn't prorate. When I rented their paperwork stated clearly they don't prorate at move out, so when I signed those papers that's what I agreed to also. read more

I was a continuous customer for over 6 years.... Was never late for the rent--which was deducted automatically from my credit card on the 1st of every month... On about the 2nd day of the month, I gave them their "required 8 days notice" to vacate my units (after they had already--as expected-- charged my credit card for the full month's rent the day before)... After moving out I asked when I could expect the credit for my remaining prepaid month--minus the 9 days. They DECLINED to pro-rate a return of the 3 weeks' prepaid rent, referring to some minutiae in the "verbiage of your rental contract..." *WOW*.... It would have cultivated incredible goodwill for them to return the unearned money, instead of relying on contractual small print, which only served to expose their penny-pinching business philosophy..... one more thing: tons of rat and mice crap in my belongings, and NO I did not bring them in with me! AVOID IF YOU CAN-- the almighty dollar supersedes good business sense at Mission Storage. Other places will be more demonstrative in their customer appreciation, I am quite sure! PS what is the purpose of a required 8 day notice to vacate--the implication is that if satisfied the unearned rent would be returned-- if no return of $$, why is there a required notification? read more

Warning! Just wanted to share an unfortunate conversation we overheard while grabbing some things from our storage unit. The manager michelle was talking to some people about a delinquent storage unit that they were selling. She said the man had his mothers ashes in there and would like them back.... then goes on to say " but thats up to you, its not like he can pour water on them and bring her back". I for one will no longer be doing business at mission storage, i suggest you look elsewhere for your storage needs. read more
