I REALLY was looking forward to working with Melissa. She had some great ideas. However, when I received the contract, I called her to let her know that I wasn't comfortable with her Model Release clause which gave her carte blanche to post any pics she'd take anywhere she wanted to online. I asked her politely if it would be possible to add language where she would have to get prior express consent from us before posting pics of our newborn online. I reiterated to her that she would still have all the copyrights; we just wanted our privacy respected and not out there on the web. Instead, I received an email from her stating that it wasn't a "good fit" dropping us before we could work anything out. Since then, I've called a few other photographers who are ok with my request for privacy and control of where my baby pics end up. It seems that if you want your privacy respected and request that pics of your baby not be posted online, Missy B is NOT your photographer. read more

We used Missy for my son's newborn pictures in 2014 so when our daughter was born in 2016 we knew that we would use her again. Missy is great at what she does, she gets amazing shots, has adorable props and makes sure baby safety is number one. I had no idea how she would manage a picture of my two year old with the newborn but she got an incredible shot that I will always treasure. Since the last time we used her Missy has updated her packages to include a cost effective (still expensive but in the world of newborn photography it's relatively cost effective) digital package to include all pics. We did this package and are so glad we did. Missy B is as good as it gets when it comes to Newborn Photos. I was referred to Missy by a colleague to had recently done a photo shoot. I actually reached out to quite a few Photographers and half of them were unavailable and some where ridiculously overpriced. I contacted Missy B and she made availability, I want to reiterate that she made herself available for our little one. We chose to do a staged Newborn Photoshoot at Missy B's studio. Here are some of the highlights: - Missy B keeps her studio at a very warm 75 - 85 degrees so the baby feels right at home in the nude - Plethora of props including baskets, buckets, blankets, hats, head-bands, etc. the list goes on and on... - Gives you that Anne Geddes look if that's what your looking for - Refreshments for Mom and Dad - Reasonable pricing (comparatively) with a variety of package options, way more options than most other photographers I spoke with - Missy is also really personable and made us feel really comfortable even when our little one pooped in a basket! :-) Missy B is a true Newborn Baby Whisperer. I actually learned techniques to calm our little one down by watching Missy B get her to fall asleep. I discovered Miss B Photography through an organization called Operation Love Reunited, a network of volunteer photographers who donate their time to military families with a deploying/deployed service member. Knowing that my husband would be deploying soon, I contacted MBP to schedule a family photo shoot. However, I was in the hospital due to pregnancy complications and didn't know when the babies would be born nor when my husband would be leaving. (Yes, I said "babies" as in triplets.) Melissa was amazing from the beginning, very understanding of our situation and remained flexible with our timeline. She checked in frequently (I spent two months in the hospital on bed rest) and always offered to help. I hadn't even met her and already she was invested in me and my family. My babies were born 6 weeks early and admitted to the NICU. We didn't have a firm timeline for their release so we couldn't schedule our photo session. Again Melissa remained flexible. The babies had a staggered release and the third one came home after 6 weeks, which was 3 days before my husband was set to deploy. Given the short timeframe and our desire to have as much family time as possible, we were unable to fit in a photo shoot with all 5 of us. But we still had an option: a baby photo shoot! Melissa offered her services to shoot the babies and I took her up on it a few days after my husband left. I arrived at her beautiful home/studio and was welcomed by the warmth of the space...literally warm which is so important for those half naked babies! She instantly took to my trio and her lovely assistant (her equally awesome husband) was the extra set of hands we needed. My babies were 7 weeks old for this "newborn" photo shoot and while they weren't all sleepy the whole time like brand new babies, Melissa worked her magic. She used a variety of hats, headbands, wraps, backdrops and props. Whenever someone got fussy she calmly rubbed their heads or picked them up. Her motherly instinct greatly helped, especially for this first time mom still trying to figure out how to wrangle triplets. We spent about 4 hours on the shoot, with breaks for feeding and diaper changes. My photos were ready for review about 3 weeks later through her online portal. Oh my, were they precious! I cried seeing how she captured my two daughters and son, especially watching the video slide show! I was so excited to pick my favorites to buy and create a photo book to send to my husband. (As part of her volunteered efforts, she included a small spiral bound book of most of the photos for him.) I, of course, went crazy and wanted a lot of photos, but that's what happens when you need 3 of everything. I reached out to Melissa and she created a custom package for me. As it is her print prices are very reasonable but she still worked with me on my large print order. The prints themselves were beautiful and you can tell they're professional. I love that the wallets were perforated with smooth edges and rounded corners so no cutting needed! The pictures were so well-received by friends and family, and made the perfect Christmas gifts. Perhaps even better was the photo book...it was simple but perfect. I sent it to my husband and he absolutely loved it. He's not an outwardly emotional guy but he said he cried when he saw the pictures. He had no idea I had even done the shoot so the surprise was even bigger. He's been gone for almost 7 weeks now and says he keeps that book with him in his rack. By the time he gets home the babies will be almost 8 months old so these pictures and that book allow him to see his babies that he's missing out on. I feel incredibly fortunate to have had the opportunity to entrust Missy B to capture one of the most important moments of our family. She excelled in all aspects: 1/ Composition. She used natural light and props very well to capture of the essence and warmth of the occasion: time well spent at home with our little one. There are photographers who know how to take a photo well, and then there are artists. Melissa is an artist with a unique ability to excel with the right brain and the left brain, which brings me to my next point... 2/ Process. Melissa is definitely type A, on top of her game looking to deliver perfection in anything that she does. She is quietly confident and very warm and assuring but that I think comes from years of experience honing her craft. Anyone who's been through a new born shot knows that at any point in time the baby can just start getting cranky, go to the bathroom on the props, etc. so its important to know how to sooth the baby and create the right environment to get the shot, and get it done quickly. 3/ End product. I think she is a one person shop, but the product you get feels like it comes form a high end studio. I feel like I hired a Madison Ave PR firm to market my child and brand her as the cutest girl in the world (which is all true, btw). The DVD and photos you get all come nicely packaged with plenty of little surprises. Melissa definitely sweats the details and its clear in the end product. I still remember when I told my husband how I wanted professional photos taken of our one year old daughter, and he replied with, "you take pretty good pictures on your iphone so why would you want to pay someone to take those pictures?!" My husband and I scheduled a shoot with Missy B to take photos for our holiday cards, as well as larger prints to give to the family for Christmas and stand outs for our walls at home. This was our first time taking professional photos since our wedding day over 5 years ago. During and immediately after our session with Missy I kept thinking, "why didn't we do this sooner?!", then she sent us our proof slideshow and with tears in my eyes I said over and over, "why didn't we do this sooner??" I am very happy with Missy B's work. We took Sebastian when he was 8 days old and had no clue how she'd keep him comforted to take so many pictures. First off, her studio is ideal for this type of shooting. It was clean, well lit, a good selection of props, and at the right temperature for a newborn. She also works well with people's ideas and props. My wife took a lot of ideas and a couple props with her and Missy B worked with those ideas, let us know which ones wouldn't work out (maybe for older babies, etc) and added her own twist. Let me start off by saying that we drove 6 hours roundtrip to have Missy B take our pictures...not once, but twice! Is she worth it? YES, completely!! We took our daughter to have her photographed for her 2 year pictures, and she even made time to capture some great shots of our 11 year old son, too. They were so good that we even used one of them as his school pictures. Missy B makes you feel completely relaxed and comfortable. She does an amazing job and even though my daughter is quite the handfull, Missy B made it stress-free. She brought along some great props and captured those smiles that are so hard for even mom & dad to get on camera. My husband and I went back for a "Redo Your I Do's" shoot just a couple weeks later. Missy B chose a gorgeous location with a stunning backdrop, and once again we had a fun, comfortable shoot. The only "problem" we had was choosing which photos to buy, there are so many beautiful ones to choose from! When it's time to decide on prints, you can't go wrong with the canvases, and the bigger, the better. We ordered 2 HUGE ones for our walls and I can't stop looking at them. The canvas isn't just wrapped around a hollow frame, it's solid, so the print won't indent or sag over time. We bought a print package that also included an album, which is gorgeous. The pages are nice and heavy and the quality is amazing. Now I have to get some pretty frames for all these beautiful prints we have. I can't say enough wonderful things about Missy B! I contacted Melissa on really short notice to photograph my 1-year old. She very gracefully accommodated me on a date that we were both available, even though she was completely booked for the month of December. I was not in the pictures that she took but nonetheless I was nervous because my 1-year old is extremely active and I felt she wouldn't stay still. I was afraid there would be less than a handful of pictures where she captured her personality. She made me feel very comfortable upon arrival and I knew that we would be able to communicate openly. The space in the house where she takes the pictures is perfectly lit; just the right amount of sunlight comes in. Also, she had it at the right temperature; it was raining that day and kind of cold, so I was very relieved that the temperature was perfect in her studio because I did two changes of clothes during the shoot. As to how the session goes, Melissa has a way with children and the parents... My baby completely gave herself to the camera, and was very entertained by the colors, the props and Melissa's playful attitude. We had a few pictures where the baby played with a cake and she made a complete mess; Melissa was ready for that , too. She handed us warm moist towels and her studio was spotless after the shoot. When I thought I'd have a handful of pictures, after the session we couldn't decide on the package for 25 pictures... they were all good! Overall, this was a great experience but Melissa had more.. she put the icing on the cake when we picked up our package. She prepared it with a bag of candy, a beautiful USB drive, a pack of wallet-sized pictures of two of our favorite pictures and a greeting card. She is so attentive to detail! Even before I was pregnant, I knew I was going to have Missy B photograph my baby! My best friend had her daughter's one year old photos done with Missy B and they were so good I used her for my baby daughter's newborn photos 3 years later! Her studio is perfectly arranged from the lighting and temperature, to the waiting area, nicely equip for everything you would ever need for your newborn including a changing station and even snacks for the parents! My two week old hardly woke up and didn't cry at all during the entire shoot, Missy B is the baby whisperer! She even made me look great in a tank top 2 weeks post baby!
