I've been coming here since I was a kid. My brother and I adore this spot. The whole family does. It's been a local legend and staple. Food is just as good still and service is always amazing. You have to get a Large Sandwich with some lemonade. For sides, I LOVE the corn nuggets and hush puppies. But trust me when I say everything is good. I don't like eating outdoors so I usually take it to go and eat at home, but the tables are nice if you like to eat outdoors. I've also eaten in my car before, but we were waiting for another passengers food. Parking IS limited so I try not to stay if I don't need to. You can park at the library and walk though. Splurge on the lemonade - sweet and full pulp, you can tell this is fresh! Presentation is underwhelming, but the traditional concept keeps us coming back. I lived in Lakeland for two years in the early 70's and never knew this place was here. Me & Barby went here after doing the Frank Lloyd Wright tour at Florida Southern College. It's not fancy, you order at the window & take out or they have three outside picnic tables with umbrellas. It's all fried fish but they do have some steamed veggies & wraps. I had the crab bites with fried okra & collards. It was all good & the experience is very unique. I especially liked sitting outside in a sunny warm February Monday Presidents Day. Very tiny parking with only 4 spaces. Great view of Lake Morton. read more

TLDR: I've been here hundreds of times over the last 25+ years, and they have a phenomenal Mr Fish Sandwich and fried okra. Both always come out sizzling hot, crispy, and perfectly flavored. I now live in California, yet still manage to get a couple of Mr Fish sandwiches in per year - I swing by every time I re-enter town off I-4 or on my way out to the airport . Food: My staples are the Mr Fish sandwich with everything on it (ketchup, mustard, onion, pickle) with lettuce and tomato plus a side of okra. I also like the cheesy grits and cole slaw. They always have made the sandwiches by order so they come out exceptionally hot, fresh, and crispy. The fish is always flakey and light in flavor. Service: They've always been so friendly, welcoming, and laid back. Back in the 1990s and 2000s, there was a different lady who was the owner, and she was so down to earth and sweet. I think it's under new management, and they are just as friendly and reliable. Location/Atmosphere: I love their placement right next to the library with a view of Lake Morton. Prices have gone way up. Watch up for the upcharge for swapping out sides too. Substitute tator tots instead of fries and get charged an extra $1.59, only to be given 6 fkn tator tots! Cole slaw upcharge for $1.59 only to be given like 4oz of Cole slaw and it was warm, not cold. Guess this will be our last time eating there, because it's nothing like it used to be! With the shrimp dinner which came with 7 large pieces of fried shrimp, 3 onion rings, 3 hush puppies, and a large handful of your traditional steak fries. The sides tasted okay, but none of them were very impressive. The hush puppies were the best, but still a little dry for my preference. I got extra cocktail sauce which I needed every drop of for the shrimp. Unless you are just a light dipper then one should probably be fine. Also, I called in my order and they said it would be ready in 5-10 minutes, so I flew out the door and got there just as they were calling my name. Can't be that promptness. read more

I'm scared to give this review because I want this to remain a hidden gem but I know that's selfish :) This is one of my favorite places in Lakeland to get a quick bite. Everything is always fresh and reasonably priced. Business is always bumping but there is adequate outdoor seating and the staff is attentive and never slows down. What got me this last time was an elderly woman drove into the parking lot and the worker came out to her car and took her order. Awesome. Pure Awesome. Do yourself a favor and next time you drive between Orlando and Tampa drive 15 minutes off I-4 and get yourself a delicious fish (or chicken!) sandwich. The details - BIG fried fish or fried chicken sandwiches with a breading that might be made of crack its so good. Really no grease to speak of and very fresh toppings. Do yourself a favor and get it with everything on it.. its a bit weird to have both Ketchup and Mustard on a fried fish sandwich but it works. Tater tots and a deliciously peppery coleslaw round out the meal. Cherry soda is fun as a drink and they also have great freshly brewed tea. The only downside is there is really no seating at all... its basically a small window with a couple of benches on the side to sit while you wait for your food. There is a beautiful lake very close you can sit at if the weather is nice. No restrooms either and I would recommend using a GPS to get here - its a pretty random somewhat residential area.
