Lectures, live demos, tips, tricks and advice for all things pottery, ceramic, art, business! Plus the shopping! All of these incredible vendors, also hosting demos - plus giveaways, contests, swag and more. I came home with sample glazes, clays, stickers, ribs, glaze whisks and more. I shopped Mudtools, Dirty Girls, Hey Soolla, Diamond Core Tools, Blick Art, De La Design, GR Forms, Dolan Tools, Garrity Tools and ClayWorks (at their local store- they had an awesome photo booth at the convention). Yeah- there was shopping. Plus the exhibits, the pottery for sale, people trading pottery and just meeting other people passionate like me! Check in on Tuesday was easy. Getting in the doors Wednesday, Thursday and Friday- they only had one entrance open and the lines were long. A lot of people were late to the first sessions because it took about 20 minutes to get through security. Even arriving early didn't mean you'd make it in. The annual cup sale was an insane success- I believe the made record breaking fundraising! I was a tad annoyed with the app this year and with the lack of advance notice on shuttle tours. I missed the Friday night dance, because it wasn't on the schedule- I thought they just weren't doing it. Bummer. And I would have scheduled one of the shuttle tours if I had known about them in advance. Hopefully I won't miss much next year in Salt Lake City!

I work for the Center as a contract instructor and have for over 20 years. I value that they…read morerespect my privacy by not giving out my personal contact information to every student because I could not possibly juggle all those messages and still plan lessons. Having the fabulous staff coordinating schedules and attendances in one location is so beneficial. And knowing that I get paid even if a student is out assures me my bills get paid! I try to work with my students closely to catch them up or if possible find a small amount of time to make up for time lost but that is not always possible with my busy schedule teaching in multiple locations. Many years ago, I also had my children in music lessons there and it was a wonderful experience where they were nurtured and valued. When we did have an emergency, the staff helped us to work out a solution for a make up or kindly credited us to ease our worries during the crisis. I never asked nor expected a refund if we canceled for basic illness or other reasons. We were always credited if the Center closed due to weather. This is standard practice in most lesson-based businesses per my experience, much like signing up for a community college class or having a child in preschool. It is a small price to pay for the quality instruction you are getting from professional musicians and artists in the Richmond area. The staff are always looking to be helpful and listen to any concerns, as one might expect from a church-run program.

The director is a extremely controlling person and she does not allow any communication between parents and teacher and everything has to go through a little phone/voicemail system she is in charge of. Worst of all, they make you make a commitment to a semester of lessons without any options of doing a make up lesson, even if you tell them two months ahead. We had to walk away from the teacher we like after two trial lessons. The director also owner of this place is impossible to work with. If your child has a busy schedule and you are looking for some flexibility, don't waste your time talking to them. They make the teachers sign no competition contract so the teachers cannot respond to you or communicate with you. Even North Korea is communicable now, but not this place!

After reading 99 million home decorating and budget decorating magazines, I finally decided to…read moreenroll in a design class. I chose "Interior Decorating and Design," one of the core classes in University of Richmond's Interior Decorating Certificate program. They also offer an advanced certificate program... both programs are geared towards preparing students to embark on a career in interior decorating, and are taught by local designers with lots of local Richmond experience. My class was held every Sunday morning for four weeks, and provided a great introduction to interior decorating. It definitely touched on every aspect of design, and I am definitely considering taking some of the other courses that dive deeper into specific subjects (like window treatments, bathrooms, kitchens, etc.) What I liked best about this class was that it focused on classic design principles that allowed me to see past personal preferences and understand what makes good design. It was clearly geared towards training students to work with clients regardless of their personal taste... The teacher of the class, Marilyn Creech, has over 20 years of "industry" experience and is very knowledgeable. She's more of a classic southern belle and she definitely tells it like it is... but she's got some great tips (like how to read a fabric label and how to make window treatments without sewing) and she covers a lot of material in this class. If you are expecting this class to be a crash course in modern design, you'll be sadly disappointed. But that is pretty much the only thing it doesn't give you- you learn how to sketch rooms and how to choose furniture based on proportion, you learn about colors and fabrics and how to measure... and Marilyn is great about answering questions and offering help after class if you are working on a specific project. When I took my class, the other students were mostly women looking to re-enter the workforce by starting their own consulting business... but there were one or two people like me who just have an interest in making their own homes look pretty :) The classes are very reasonable, ranging from $59- $139 per class.

According to my belief a previous incident that happened on February 26, 2024, between him and the educator had been resolved and there was no mention of him being detained from enjoying the future field trip with his peers. However, I recently just learned after a night of anticipation an a exciting morning of preparing to attend the field trip on March 4, 2024, my great grandson was meant with disappointment by not being allowed to go on the field trip base on a decision between the school counselor and the educator which was, due to the incident that took place on February 26, 2024. It is my belief as an educator that issues should be resolved at the time that they take place. That, as an adult we should not make decisions that would hurt or impair the growth of another individual. It is my strong belief that all children have different temperaments. It is our responsibility to provide the support that each child needs to help them to overcome whatever objective they are encountering. Based on your principal statement, "Together, we will be creating more opportunities for family engagement and look forward to a continued partnership. At Chalkley, we believe in "Unity through Empowerment and Inclusivity". We are a family and believe that ALL kids can learn, no matter what. It is not a hope, we guarantee it!" How does this statement apply to my eight-year-old grandson who is completely devastated by the actions of this counselor and educator? Not only did she not allow him to attend the field trip, once she and the other students returned to the school, she forced him to sit in the classroom while she and the other students discussed the field trip. My question is when does the action of the counselor or educator cross the line and become mental abuse?
