We recently contacted Mister Sparky for an estimate to have a Nema 14-50 outlet installed to charge a Tesla as well as add an outlet in our entry hallway. While the technician was very nice, the prices that Mister Sparky charges are outrageously high. They are clearly trying to make a living off of only doing a few jobs a month. Everyone else they charge a $59 estimate fee to to rip you off even more. For those curious, they wanted $900 to install a hall outlet and over $4,000 for the Tesla charging port. Yes they had to run a wire, but $4K is over double my next highest quote! Definitely will not be using Mister Sparky and we do not recommend you even waste your time on them. They are polite and show up fast, but that's it. read more

I've used them twice and agree they are expensive. Probably double what a usual independent electrician would charge. The advantages I found: 1) Good communication. They will confirm by call, text, email. I'm always surprised by the number of people who simply never return calls. 2) They're punctual. They show up on time as scheduled. I've had too many occasions where I've taken a day off work only to have somebody miss an appointment, reschedule because another job ran late, or just not get back to me until I called them and they said "oh yeah, sorry. We had a job run over. We'll try to come out tomorrow." So frustrating. 3) They do good work. I've had other people put stuff in that I was a little concerned that it was done poorly or not up to code. I never worry with these guys. 4) They clean up after themselves. So, if you can be flexible, work from home, and don't mind working around an independent electrician's schedule, you can probably save yourself some substantial money. For me - on the rare occasion I need an electrician - like twice in my life time - I just want it done right and on time so I can get back to work. read more

My family had a negative experience with Mister Sparky - we chose them because they seemed reputable and figured it would be worth the price, but they ended up not being able to fix the wiring problems at our front entrance despite charging $400. When we called back about the issue, the manager was not very pleasant and they didn't call back after saying they would. Could keep pushing the issue but not sure if it's worth the energy. Consumer buyer beware of over charging for some simple repairs. Technician was very nice and informative. Explained everything. But your back is against the wall when you call for help on a electrical issue. Right away they hit you with a estimate that was shocking. Just to assess a problem with a circuit for outside plugs the bill was $549 plus the $69 service fee for a total of $618 to replace 4 exterior electrical plugs and put silicone around each plug. These plugs costs about $1.50 each. There was an independent electrician down the street at a neighbors house today when I went to get my mail and I asked him what he would charge for replacing 4 exterior plugs and checking the gfci's. $120. I repeat $120. Almost a $400 difference. And does not charge a service fee of $69. I learned my lesson not going to call Mister Sparky again. Then beware of the upscale of items that are not needed. That is another review. Funny how these big name service companies all try the same tactics of upselling. One Hour did the same thing to me two weeks ago. read more

Called for 24/7 service. Stephanie answered and said the soonest someone could come to my house was tomorrow since it's Sunday. Well. I think that doesn't quite cut it. After a storm passed today I have an outlet in the garage that no longer works. My freezer and internet are plugged into it. It may not be an emergency to them but it certainly is to me. read more

Ryan Booth came out to evaluate and estimate repairs to our 32 year old "new" home. He was thorough in evaluating old problems identified by the home inspector and new problems as well. He first discussed what needed to be done then wrote out estimates with several options. I was able to pick my preference and sign up for an extended payment option that make new ownership easier! First thing, they charge just to come to your house which you are informed of up front, against my better judgement I agreed. Big mistake on my part, I feel like I was trying to earn there business instead of them trying to earn mine.. 2nd I used them because I had 4 previous outlets installed in my house for a little over $200 each and I thought that was to much.. Well let me tell you, to do the same type of outlet from Mr. Sparky is $358 plus $49 fee for them coming out. I also tell you I asked them to promptly leave my house. I will never call them again not recommend them to anyone... Overpriced and of course this upfront fee is ridiculous.. $49 is the only money they will ever see from me or any of my friends and family.. Enjoy the money... read more

My kitchen overhead lights would not work in our 25 year old home. It put a damper on cooking my Thanksgiving dinner. So, I called Mr. Sparky the Friday after the holiday and made an appointment for an electrician to come out between 6p.m.-9p.m. on that day. The company called me an hour before his ETA and sent me a text with the employee 's name as Sam and a picture. Sam arrived 30 minutes early, assessed the problem, and provided three different plans to address the problem. The prices ranged from $423 to $1000. We went with the plan B to retrofit our fixture to use energy efficient LED lights and had lights on in a little over an hour. Sam was professional , knowledgeable,and did not try to add more to our agreed bill. Thank you Mr. Sparky for running a professional and trustworthy company! read more

My regular electrician was unavailable so I called Mr.Sparky to have an electrician come hang a chandelier for me. I do this for a living as I am an interior designer. I move and rehang chandeliers ALL THE TIME. After spending 20 minutes at my home the electrician quoted me $950 to do the simple job! I was literally shocked! I was frustrated to have to pay a $60 trip fee for a completely unrealistic quote. I later got ahold of my one of my regular electricians and he hung the chandelier for me for $125. I think they are making a business off of trip charges and "suckers" who will pay 9 times the normal price. I then spoke to a family member who had a similar experience with Mr.Sparky. (They quoted $14,000 for something that they then got done for $250.) I've never left a bad review in my life, but I feel this is unfair to take advantage of people. read more

PRO: Promptly came by and fixed a bad GFCI receptacle. No problems since. CON: Tried to sell me on a list of outrageously expensive work. If you get a quote from Mr. Sparky, do yourself a favor and get a second opinion from a local electrician. Ryan came out to check on a GFCI that kept tripping in the garage. He pinpointed the problematic receptacle, replaced it, and the circuit has been working well ever since. After further inspection, he claimed that our breaker panel was corroded, the grounding needed a complete overhaul and recommended a whole-home surge protector. He also wrote us up for smoke detector replacement as the old ones had expired. His quotes? Almost $5000 for the panel, grounding, and surge protector replacement and $165 each for the smoke detectors. He also did his best to make this work seem necessary for the safety of my family. Thankfully, I trusted my instincts, payed the $325 to send him on his way, and did some online research on what these repairs typically cost. Since it all smelt fishy, I called two other companies for their opinions and estimates. The first company thought the panel looked okay but gave me a quote anyway for a new one, a surge protector, and a few repairs on the grounding (as opposed to an overhaul) for about $2500 total. The second company told me the panel was fine and quoted me only $550 for the grounding work, surge protection, AND smoke detector replacements. They'll be getting my business. Why such a huge difference from Mr. Sparky's quote? I understand each technician will have their own opinions, but it's telling that both of the other guys didn't think the breaker panel had any issues and quoted me much more reasonable simple repairs instead of costly replacements. My point is this: go ahead and call Mr. Sparky for your repairs, as they are prompt and thorough. But do NOT accept their quotes for additional work without first getting one or two other opinions and estimates from local electricians. read more

I had Mister Sparky install a new ground rod and wiring. The technician checked my breaker boxes and I needed some repairs. The work was done very good and timely. However, the bill was way more than I expected. Great work but not a good value! I calculated out the cost of labor and it came to nearly $500/hour. Clint didn't put a hard sell on me which I appreciate. I did opt for one of the corrective actions which was reasonably priced. Our technician was Drew and without question he made the effort and took the energy to make our townhouse safe and sound after Harvey. We quickly moved to a rental in the aftermath of Harvey so small details like working fire detectors went unnoticed. Bob came out to our home today to give us an estimate for some big changes in our electrical service. I only paid the service fee of $49.00 and was very impressed with Bob's knowledge and patience explaining everything to me (I know next to nothing about all things electrical). Then, when my husband came home, Bob's answered all of his questions as well. Bob was neat, polite, knowledgeable, and patient. The estimate we received was a small amount higher than the first company we received an estimate from, but we will go with Mister Sparky because of the level of service we have received thus far. read more

On November 25th Nina one of Mister Sparky's Electricians came to my home in Cinco Ranch to help fix a GDI switch and repair two outdoor outlets. This has been a problem for some time (tried to fix on my own) so I was happy to see that Nina was very professional, certified, articulate and went directly to the task at hand. As she conducted a thorough evaluation of the GFI issues Nina also took the time to check the entire home electric system. In her analysis she discovered other electricity equipment work that should be done. Nina wrote up the invoice for the GFI work and also itemized the other suggested repair need and explained why this would be a prudent thing to do...considering the home is 21 years old this evaluation was appreciated. There was no hard push to sell any of these services and her professionalism will have me thinking serious about doing all the work recommended. read more

Early this morning I contacted Mister Sparky and they replied almost immediately and set up an appointment. William arrived when they said he would and he walked through the house and listened to our issues. William is so personable and very professional. He listened and then he explained everything. Refreshing to deal with a service provider that is responsive, professional and ethical. We were able to schedule a non-urgent appointment within three days - impossible with some others we tried in "high" repair season in Houston. Although Mister Sparky was about 30 minutes late on their three hour window, they kept me informed of status and then waived the $59 service call fee. Clint assessed the issues, gave a fair quote and completed the work that afternoon. He had to retrieve a wireless doorbell, a recommended replacement vs ripping out drywall to fix bad wiring to the old doorbell. While out, he picked up a diet Coke for me - we were working in a vacant rental property. Really above and beyond courteous on a super hot day in Texas! read more

They scheduled an appointment for this afternoon! Bill S. was our technician, he arrived on time as scheduled, he was extremely professional, explained to us what the problem was (in layman's terminology) and walked us through what he is going to need to do. He also gave us quotes for other problems that we will address down the road (our home is 21 years old). There was absolutely no pressure from Bill on anything.
