Let me tell you about Misty. Early in our wedding vendor scouting process, I was intent on getting the best photographer we could find. As an amateur photographer myself, I vetted dozens and dozens of portfolios in Chicago and I loved Misty's artistic shots as well as her knack for capturing great candid photos. I wanted someone whose photos were always in focus and if a flash were used, I didn't want it to be obvious. For all those reasons and more, Misty was our first choice. It was the best vendor decision we made in the entire wedding process. During our initial meeting, she asked us how we met and she made a mental note of a particularly artistic shot she wanted to get to capture our story. That's the kind of attention to detail you won't get with every photographer. On our rainy October wedding date, Misty and her assistant Jamie were phenomenal. They worked tirelessly and quickly, getting phenomenal shots even as we were getting pelted by rain. When necessary, they barked at lingering pedestrians to get out of the shot. Her directions to us were clear and kind. We don't really know how to pose, but Misty made us look great at nearly every angle. Inside our wedding venue, she had to contend with two different light sources - light bulbs in a hotel ballroom and tons of light coming in from the windows. Misty Winter ... what a gift she is! We contacted her a week before our wedding, hoping she could spare 30 minutes at 6:00 a.m. (as the sun rose at Point Udall) to take a few shots of our small, short wedding ceremony. Thank goodness we chose such an early hour because Misty was booked solid for weeks to come. Now I know why. Because of the time of day and the location, Misty made herself available and jumped on board with both feet. She even found us an officiant at the last minute, after the original person had to cancel. She could have charged an exorbitant fee and I would have paid it. But she didn't. She could have snapped 20 or 30 photos and been done. But she didn't. Misty was laying on the ground and climbing on top of rocks to capture the most amazing images and she made the absolute best of the beautiful colors of the sunrise and the Caribbean Sea! She even managed to keep all of the "tourists" out of the shots she took -- how does that happen at such a popular place!?! I call it Misty Magic. However, the images she captured are her true magic. Where to begin? When my husband and I started interviewing photographers almost a year ago, we knew minutes after meeting Misty that she would be our photog. She was really friendly, but didn't try "selling" us like the other ones we met with. We got our engagement photos taken last summer and they were beautiful! Our Moms had one shot blown up poster-sized for our wedding showers (I really wish that wasn't actually true... but it is). She made us feel really comfortable and we heard from other sources that she would take care of business on the day of the wedding, no problem. That was no lie. When my now husband and I decided to get married in Chicago, I knew I had my work cut out for me. First, I was new to the city and did not have my best girlfriends to turn to for wedding vendor advice, and secondly, with respect to having a professional photographer, my husband thought it was an 'optional' item--he thought they were too expensive, too intrusive and would not offer much more than what Uncle Frank could do with his new SLR camera. As one who works with photographers for corporate needs, I thoroughly disagreed and knew I had some convincing to do. Well, enter Misty, Misty of Misty Winter photography. Why Misty was (and still is) so fabulous: 1. We were instantly comfortable with Misty. She is incredibly easy to be around and has a calm energy. She brings with her skill, flexibility and confidence. Your event is not about her, the cool photographer, it is about you, her client. We barely 'felt' her at our wedding and while she is petit, she can bring out a commanding voice when needed to wrangle in family members (which we needed to have done). She kept our photos on track and our people happy. 2. Misty is not only a great photographer, she is also a great and RELIABALE business woman. She was always, always on time, if not early, and never made us wait and worry. It was Misty who reached out to me to confirm and re-confirm schedules and plans, not the other way around. As our wedding date approached, it was incredibly reassuring to know that I need not worry about whether or not our photographer would show up. She was a calming factor during an incredibly busy time. (Note: My husband and I arranged the wedding on our own, so we had lots going on.) 3. Misty made everything easy for us, meeting us when we wanted to and where we wanted to. Other photographers I interviewed required me to get to them and their studio to speak with them and view their work. I had a wedding to plan and no time to trek across the city to accommodate their needs. And besides, in today's modern time, do I really need to visit a special studio to view their work--won't clicking through photos on a website and flipping through an album in a café do the trick? If the photographer's work needs special lighting to make the photos sing--no thank you, that won't work for me. 4. Misty provided us with fantastic photos at a fantastic price. Other photographers I met with charged crazy amounts of money just for their time (~$6,000) AND if we exceeded this time, additional substantial fees would be charged. Given that I had never walked down the aisle before, I had no idea how much time I would want them for. With Misty, it was straight-forward and easy--she was there when we asked her to be and left when we were done with what had to be done. She did not give us the impression that we had to giddy up and be done with it all--she was there for us the entire time we wanted her. 5. And finally, just to be perfectly clear--the photos were fantastic, we have never looked so good and likely never will. We were given all the photos on CDs to use as we please, which allowed us to get lots of mileage out of the photos for our Christmas cards and subsequent wedding gifts for our parents. Other photographers charge quite a lot per picture and would not dream of giving you the digital file--the $$$ can add up quite quickly. So there you have it. I would hire Misty in a heartbeat for any of my photo needs and recommend her highly to anyone looking for a fantastic photographer who also happens to be 'good peeps.' read more

I can only describe Misty as a magician. My two children, a preschooler and toddler are, umm, independent and strong-willed. They require a ton of energy. We have used Misty for our family photos for two years in a row and the. photos. are. stunning. Like, maybe this isn't my family?! We received our photo's from Misty and they are gorgeous. I'm the girl who never likes a picture of herself. My chin is too pointy, I look like Jay Leno, I have a double chin, my eyes are hooded, I look stoned, etc..... but Misty made me so comfortable that I look beautiful in the photos. Previous posters have pretty much said what I was going to write, but I wanted to add my 5 star rating! Misty is a very professional and empathetic photographer, and she took excellent pictures. Our wedding photos are flattering, crisp yet warm, with beautiful colors. And the candids are funny, in a good way! We took pictures in a variety of settings (outdoors with afternoon autumn sun, indoors with twilight sun, indoors at night with uplighting along the perimeter of the room) and all the pictures came out really well. We booked Misty for our September '09 wedding several months ago of a referral online, and couldn't be more excited! We had our engagement session with her this morning... I broke into tears before we began. I am TERRIFIED of cameras. But within fifteen minutes, Misty was clicking away with a very happy couple. She was incredibly accommodating to my unfounded fears... She just whipped out her zoom lens and started waaaay across a field to help me get comfortable. Any time I worked up the courage to actually look at the camera, she was running, yes, running, across the grass to get different angles of us. Misty photographed my wedding in early September (I've been meaning to write this review for a while!), and I cannot say enough wonderful things about her, but I will try and concisely sing her praises. The first and foremost factor in choosing a photographer is generally quality of photos, and Misty is extremely talented. She really does have an eye for what will make a good photo, and she knows a lot about light and where to stand/how to pose in order to use the light in the best way and really make a beautiful photo. We got our photos back in less than two weeks and absolutely loved them. We opted not to have her make a photo book and made one ourselves, but the examples she showed me in our initial meeting were lovely. You will be with your photographer for almost the entire day, so it's important that you like them or at least get along with them. Misty has a wonderful personality and is very fun to be around. She was unintrusive for most of the day - the family photos, the ceremony and reception itself, but when we were out taking photos on Michigan Avenue and on the lake, she was a blast! We really had a fun time with her and everyone in the wedding party and parents loved her! She was also very assertive and took charge whenever group shots needed to be taken. This is so important when you have a large group of people milling around waiting to have their picture taken. She moved us along in a fast and efficient way and made sure we were on schedule (and we had a pretty tight schedule). She was a complete professional and made sure that we had every picture taken that we needed. Misty had a second photographer (I can't remember her name now!), which was awesome. Not only did this allow us to make sure nothing was missed throughout the ceremony and reception, but it also caught different angles of important moments, which was great to have captured. Communication with her throughout the year leading up to our wedding was very smooth and easy. She's extremely responsive and dealt with my millions of questions with professionalism. She responded to emails and calls quickly, even when she was out of the country. Our engagement session was great too, and I'm so happy she includes this in her package, or we may not have opted to do one. I think engagement sessions are great because it gives you a chance to get to know Misty a bit better and the way she works, and for you to feel more comfortable in front of the camera. I felt super awkward at first but she guided and posed us and made us feel very comfortable. The pictures turned out great and I'm so happy we have them now! Misty was the best wedding photographer I could have asked for. Book her in now! I met Misty at my sister's wedding in Chicago in 2010, which she photographed. Misty impressed me right away with her 'take charge' attitude in managing a gigantic wedding party, her sense of humor which got the best reactions for photos, and obviously the final product - my sisters photos were beeeeeauuuuuutiful! Having a local photographer would have been easier for sure, but I knew bringing Misty down for the big day would be well worth it, and it definitely was. She went above and beyond capturing photos of our wild New Orleans "second line", which is basically a parade down Bourbon Street - never in my dreams did I expect a photographer to run around and climb up to rooftop balconies to get the perfect shots, and she did just that and more. Secondly, she basically served as our wedding coordinator for the day as well. We had a coordinator at the venue, but Misty took charge and made sure we stayed on schedule to get all the planned bridal party, ceremony, and family photos we requested. Like my sister, I had an enormous wedding party, and Misty was excellent at keeping everyone focused to get the photos we wanted. Lastly, Misty made our day SO easy, we didn't have to worry about a thing. She kept us calm, made us laugh, told us where to be and when, she even tied up my dress's train when the bustle broke at the end of the night! She is much more than a photographer, and that is why I'll recommend her to everyone I know. Once my husband and I received the photos, we were even more impressed. Misty so beautifully captured everything about our day, and it brought me to tears reliving the experience through photos. Misty's work speaks for itself, so I will definitely recommend her for that - it's stunning. Misty photographed my wedding in August 2009 and she ROCKS! I actually wanted to write this review right after the wedding because our day-of experience was so positive, but I figured I would want until I get my photos back so I could rave even more :) To start, she's just a cool person to hang out with, which is something that I think is a really important thing with wedding photographers that a lot of people don't think about. You're with the photographer all day, on what will be one of the most memorable and happy days of your life, so having people you enjoy around you is a must - our entire wedding party loved her! Misty is very professional while still being laid-back, which definitely makes her subjects more relaxed. She's also works extremely hard - she and her assistant Shelly were literally everywhere at both our wedding and reception. There were so many moments that I missed that she was able to capture, and some of my favorite photos are the ones that I didn't even know she took. She went above and beyond my expectations, even staying later than we had originally contracted her for because the dance floor was so rockin' and she was getting some great shots! We got so many compliments on Misty - and this was before they even saw the photos! That's pretty impressive. The photos are gorgeous and it's been impossible to try to pick out which ones I want to frame. In terms of price, I did a lot of photographer research beforehand and I found her rates extremely competitive (and actually, looking back on it now, I think we got a great deal based on how our photos turned out and how much I've heard other brides have spent). Plus, I loved that she's the business owner, we always dealt with her, she's the one there on your wedding day, etc. I met with some larger companies and it felt too impersonal. Misty was just the opposite. I would HIGHLY recommend her anyone and have already told my sister that she should use Misty when she eventually gets married too! read more

Misty photographed our wedding, and we couldn't be happier with the results. She was fantastic at the candid shots we wanted but also made sure we had plenty of the posed shots people expect. She worked an extended event---from the prep time at our apartment through the cleanup at the reception venue--with unflagging energy and professionalism. The photos themselves were beautiful. When we sent them to our guests, our guests loved them. One called the photos lovely and said "the photographer did a great job capturing folks mid-laugh." So true! This review is long overdue. Misty photographed my wedding in July and we couldn't have been more pleased with her. The photographer was probably my most dwelled over decision and the one that I knew would be the most important to me. I was in search for a very specific style and found just what I was looking for in Misty. No cheesy posed prom pictures with an ugly backdrop. Misty was SO fun to work with and ALL of my guests and wedding party loved her. The groomsmen had a bit of trouble with attention while taking group shots and Misty was able to whip them into shape for long enough to get the shots that she needed. She really eased my nerves before the wedding as well lightened the mood during some very unfortunate events such as our trolley breaking down on the way to the ceremony. Misty was a pleasure from the first contact to the delivery of pictures. After meeting with numerous photographers we knew immediately that Misty would be the one. She was very responsive throughout and most importantly her photographs were AMAZING! Everyone was so impressed with the way they came out. Even posed shots looked so natural.
