Service was terrible, sorry shes having a bad day but treating customers like a problem and having and attitude isnt going to help. Burgers very mediocre, preformed frozen dried out hockey pucks like other lower quality food places. Black raspberry ice cream was great, the only bright spot to the visit. This is the best small town ice cream shop the world has ever seen. The food was excellent, though I have to say the ice cream was the best. All of the workers are very kind and provided us with great service and help whenever we needed it. The building itself also gives off an incredible vibe with a counter to order from and some seating. Another stop on the way reinforced that Misty's makes great malts. They use plenty of malt powder and add great flavorings. Ms T had the usual Hot Fudge and I had Butterscotch. They were great and the small is plenty, although Ms T may disagree with me on that. I tried another loose beef sandwich and it was pretty much as I recalled although I did not detect as much sweetness. I really would like to see the meat seasoned a little more. It does have onion cooked in and the meat is dead tender. This is always a good place to stop for some Iowa traditions and road food. read more

Great small town ice cream show with delicious soft serve and shakes. Definitely a must stop.

Though it's small, cramped and feels a little dirty and cheap, it's totally worth a stop if you happen to be out in the middle of nowhere. Might even be worth going 20 or 30 miles out of your way. In short, it's a great little dive in a tiny town. My party ordered a Reuben, a cheeseburger and two tenderloins before indulging on some raspberry ice cream. The food took a long time to get to us and the girl taking the order seemed like she was ready to get home after a long day at work, but it was totally worth the wait. What came to me was of the best Reubens I've had, crispy, juicy with an excellent mix of sauce and sauerkraut. My wife's breaded tenderloin was just what you want in central Iowa, way too big for the bun and super crispy, though it could have used more mustard. The grilled tenderloin was also good, but it didn't compare to what we had. None cost more than $6. It was also timed well so our fries were crispy and hot. Beware with the ice cream. The "baby" size is what most places call an adult medium, and the medium is ridiculous. I don't even want to know what the large is! They could really use better supplies for table service. We went through about 30 napkins, the Styrofoam plates were tiny and their trash can overflowed. And if you're not from around there, you definitely feel it. But I would crawl through a garbage dump to have that Reuben again. read more

Great place with inexpensive made to order food. You can eat and order inside or out. We had the Reuben sandwiches fries and onion rings. The fries and onion rings were crisp and hot. The ice cream was generous and good. We had a chocolate shake and a hot fudge sundae with the black raspberry ice cream and nuts and whipped cream. Very good. Order a chocolate malt. Bypass the food unless you are really hungry. It is greasy mediocre foo. The cheeseburger I had here reminded me of McDonald's type quality. But the chocolate malt - the world's best is located in the middle of nowhere, Iowa. Look over at the park - see that rocket looking equipment for kids? I guarantee you every person who grew up in SE Iowa remembers that rocket. It looks like now they have some new fancy equipment that the children enjoy, but I still get excited to see the rocket. Want a nearby hike to burn off your malt? Head over to Lake Lacey State Park and take the trails at Ely Ford crossing. Head to the left to see the old burial mounds (no signage, but they're there). Summertime calls for the GIGANTIC black raspberry soft serve cones. For the small price, the serving is huge. Great chocolate malts! Pork tenderloin sandwich is huge and very good. Loose meat sandwich (even with the small amount of cheese) not so much. Really not much taste-no discernible seasonings or onions, which would definitely help. Service is friendly and courteous, but very slow. This was the neatest place. Stopped here after eating at First St Grille. Had an outside window to order that my kids thought was so cool. Picnic benches on the patio. We were pretty much disappointed. the caramel milkshake tasted more like a vanilla. No Rich sweet caramel flavor. The tenderloin was big with my husband and I splitting one of them. It was tender but it tasted like the grease was slightly old. The service was not bad. However I never once saw the girl that was waiting on people smile at anyone. read more
