recommend to us by our airbnb host. DELICIOUS burgers. I got the patty melt. it was so crispy, golden,& buttery!

You can tell it's been around for decades. My wife ate here when she was a young girl more than 30 years ago.

Though it's small, cramped and feels a little dirty and cheap, it's totally worth a stop if you happen to be out in the middle of nowhere. Might even be worth going 20 or 30 miles out of your way. In short, it's a great little dive in a tiny town. My party ordered a Reuben, a cheeseburger and two tenderloins before indulging on some raspberry ice cream. The food took a long time to get to us and the girl taking the order seemed like she was ready to get home after a long day at work, but it was totally worth the wait. What came to me was of the best Reubens I've had, crispy, juicy with an excellent mix of sauce and sauerkraut. My wife's breaded tenderloin was just what you want in central Iowa, way too big for the bun and super crispy, though it could have used more mustard. The grilled tenderloin was also good, but it didn't compare to what we had. None cost more than $6. It was also timed well so our fries were crispy and hot. Beware with the ice cream. The "baby" size is what most places call an adult medium, and the medium is ridiculous. I don't even want to know what the large is! They could really use better supplies for table service. We went through about 30 napkins, the Styrofoam plates were tiny and their trash can overflowed. And if you're not from around there, you definitely feel it. But I would crawl through a garbage dump to have that Reuben again.

Loose meat sandwich with homemade chips.

Tasty treats, larger menu than just malts and shakes (even tho I had the milkshake). Quenched the thirst on a hot day.

That was underselling it - this cider house is awesome! I love that there are so many different fruit flavors in their ciders. My personal favorites were the watermelon and apricot. There is also a great selection of burgers all the way from your classic cheeseburger down to a no-meat burger, each with its own unique toppings. I got the 'Merica Burger and didn't even have time to take a picture because I just scarfed it down. They have a great selection of sides too - chips, slaw, potato salad, or a glass of your favorite cider! We will definitely be coming back to the Cider House every time we are back in town. Great food and great drinks!

My only complaint is that food service is kinda slow and the way you order food and drinks is kinda clumsy. It's almost like the food is an afterthought to what was originally intended to be a bar. I recently made the mistake of going on a Friday night at 7pm. They were busy and there were about 10 people ahead of us in the line. It took 30+ minutes to reach the order window, at which time we were informed it was an hour and a half wait to get our food. Why couldn't a manager or a staff member inform the people standing patiently (as the line was steadily growing) of the wait time before we got to the window? Completely unacceptable lack of customer service. Once you actually get your food, it's great, and the bar service is pretty efficient. Great selection of drinks.

The positives are the décor and atmosphere. Lamps softly light the tables, and there's comfortable seating suitable for parties of any size. Service was a little slow, which I attribute to how busy it was, but the staff was friendly. Unfortunately, the drinks were awful. The Long Island tasted like a premix, and the rum and Coke was watered down with too much ice. I ordered the butter chicken--it was filling but very bland. My lady ordered the birria tacos, which were extremely dry and unsatisfactory. Overall, this wasn't a good experience, and I'll be skipping this establishment the next time I'm in Burlington.

I've never seen a margarita put in a glass that is intended for whiskey so that was the first I had sweet tea, but it wasn't sweet at all. We ordered our supper at 6:52 PM. I called the waitress over at 7:45 she said they were backed up in the kitchen. I don't believe this was true. Everyone around us had their food except us. I believe she didn't get the order in or they lost the ticket when the meal came at around 8 o'clock. The baked potato would not melt butter. You could hold it in your hand. It was cold. I ordered grilled fish. I got fried fish. My girlfriend had chicken fried steak. It's actually chicken fried chicken she had mashed potatoes. They reminded us both of when we were in high school. We get those potatoes that you're not quite sure they're potatoes. I called the waitress over. I told her about my meal. She said she'd have them remake it. I said no thank you she said she'd take it off the bill. It's not about money. I can afford to eat wherever I want. She didn't offer to do anything else and I believe us having to wait almost an hour for our food was really ridiculous. Needless to say I'll have second thoughts if I ever decide to eat there again.
