    Lemon Sole
    Michelle O.

If you want a great fish dinner prepared perfectly, this is the place. I had the lemon sole and my companion had the cod. The sole was probably the best I've ever had. Perfectly cooked and seasoned. The lemon, caper butter was so good! The cod also was perfectly cooked. Really great meal. We were lucky to get seated without a reservation. Call ahead to be sure you get seated.

    Absolutely delicious!

We were searching for lunch spots after checking into the Abbey Glen Castle. We just so happened to step in front of this restaurant and decided, why not? We walked in and were seated immediately. I wanted to try something different on this particular day so I ordered the mussels with chips. I was honestly a little afraid of trying something like this because I've had bad luck getting sick when it comes to ordering seafood when vacationing to other countries. However, this meal was absolutely delicious! I could not out the mussels down once I started eating them. I was also a happy man because of how big a portion it was. Do yourself a favor and order the mussels and chips if you're a fan of seafood... you wont be disappointed!

We ate our way up and down the coast of Ireland from top to tip and our lunch at Mitchell's stands out as the very best meal we had. They set the bar for the word "fresh" when it comes to seafood. The fish pie was one of the most sublime concoctions I've ever had the pleasure of eating. It arrived on the heels of some gorgeously grilled oysters with Parmesan that are a "must try" if you find yourself lucky enough to dine here. Go here. That's the best advice I'll give you. Go. Here.

My husband and I stumbled upon this lovely place as we were walking around Clifden. We had the best lunch we have had in the week and a half since we arrived in Ireland. The fish sandwich was delicious and my husband loved his fresh oysters and mussels in a savory broth. The atmosphere is nice with great music and a beautiful setting.

Smoked bacon and brie panini with red onion marmalade and mixed greens. Delicious!

Stopped at Mitchell's Restaurant for lunch while driving the Connemara and County Mayo Loop in Ireland. This was one of the rare occasions that I didn't already have a restaurant already selected on our travel itinerary. We stopped at a small town outside of Clifden, but dining options were limited so we decided to continue to the next town in hopes of better restaurants. After a quick search on the Yelp app I found several great lunch options in Clifden. Mitchell's Restaurant had several dining awards decorated on the outside of the restaurant so we knew we found a great spot for lunch. This charming restaurant is beautifully decorated with rustic stone walls, large wooden tables, eclectic art and chandeliers. The fireplace on each floor gives the restaurant a warm, homey feel. We started off our lunch with half a dozen raw oysters and the calamari. The seafood was so fresh! My sister ordered the smoked salmon platter and my husband ordered the seafood chowder. I ordered the smoked bacon and brie panini. Everything was fantastic. We somehow managed to save room for dessert. My sister and I split a tart with crème brûlée topping, homemade ice cream and strawberry coulis. Amazing meal with amazingly fresh seafood. Would definitely return!!!

Lucky we booked. A Thursday night and they were turning people away. We shared 2 dozen of the local oysters between three. Four each is enough as they are quite big which is different to the small Sydney oysters we love. These were delicious (10/10). Two had the chowder (9/10), I had the mussels (10/10) and the other the salmon (10/10). Everything was perfect. I'd like to go back and try everything on the menu but we are on a tight schedule. Highly recommended but remember to book or you'll be disappointed.

FIRST: This restaurant is not BRITISH!! It's Irish. Once we knew we were staying at The AbbeyGlen Castle and having dinner there the first night we wanted to explore dinner in Cliften the following evening and therefore made reservations at this little upscale fish restaurant. First off, reservations are necessary to eat here as it's very very busy in summer. The tables are very close together, in my opinion, too close. It's decorated rather nicely with a rustic Irish home feel. The staff were super nice and efficient. They have a wide and varied European Wine list, again with knowledgeable staff. For the meal itself, we ordered Oyster's on the half shell for the table, they come in sixes, so basically however many sixes you need, just order. They were locally sourced from Cleggan Bay. Unfortunately they were room temperature and I just could not eat them. I was surprised that they did not come on ice. I actually returned them and they did not charge but I was rather disappointed especially with no explanation as to why they were served at room temperature. My main course was really great. I had the shrimp which again were locally sourced & lightly deep fried. In fact, I'm going to say they were the best fried jumbo shrimp I've ever had, very very fresh & very tasty. My family had the Hake, Crab Cakes & Steak. They all raved on about how good each dish was. This restaurant is one of the few in Cliften with a lot of food awards, however in my opinion, just average. When back in this lovely area I think I will try another restaurant. Mitchell's was very expensive. I think a little overpriced for the caliber of food offered. The main fish was Hake, it seems like in every restaurant we went to on this trip, Hake was on every menu. We did not have dessert here. Dress is trendy casual.

Excellent in all regards! Best lunch we've enjoyed thus far on our trip. Highly recommend Mitchell's. Wife had the mussels while had Fish Fingers which were both incredible.

More fleshy than the delicate French tables. Even appearing a little heretic, I will admit that I like. I have a soft spot for Utah Beach or Horse's Feet (very big french oysters). It is not necessarily "gastronomy" but it satisfies my Ogre side! The setting is quite simple and the welcome friendly. Some classic fried shrimps. And the chosen piece, a 1.5kg lobster just grilled, with a butter infused with herbs. Perfect cooking, tender and delicious flesh. What more can you ask for ? Lobster and brioche! And potato! Yes, the plate of vegetables that accompanies is endowed with the eternal Irish potatoes, vestige of the great famine of the mid-nineteenth century. They missed so much at the time that they serve whatever the mood is. So dear Irish friends, ok for the potato every time but with a little whipped cream with chives when in field dress; go and see our Belgian friends who will teach you how to cook french fries; take a tour by Noirmoutier or Peru to discover interesting varieties. The seafood plate is a little disappointing. Mitchell's in the same city was more interesting for only 3 euros more. The presentation is not very elegant, the mussels less prepared, the salmon chiffonade rather than slices, banal cocktail sauce. Classic cheese cake. Bill of 139 euros for 2.

All ingredients are locally sourced, and they sure know how to get a lot of flavor and variety out of them! Don't miss this place if you're in (or even nearby) the area!
