HMC Contracting - New enclosed sunroom

I don't know how the other positive reviews came about, because our experience with HMC Contracting…read morewas pretty bad. We had our enclosed patio redone... It took forever, and once we were in the process I couldn't wait till it was over. It felt like the Three Stooges were sent to do the work. The painting had to be redone several times -- their "team" clearly had no idea what they were doing. We had to have them rebuild the door at least twice, because the quality was truly subpar. Six months later, the door is already showing age (see photo). They were careless with the space (inside the patio, and in the surrounding garden). They never cleaned up after themselves. I had to entirely cut back one of the plants behind the patio because it was so badly broken. I'd find nails and debris around outside that I would have to throw away; they brought plastic, but barely covered our patio furniture (so I did that myself); and they broke one of our side tables. Attention to detail was absent -- I've attached photos of just SOME of the trim corners that do not match up -- there are gaps instead. Chad and his son Adam were nice enough, but we were paying for something that should've looked excellent in the end. It looks OKAY (if you don't really look at the details), and it was no fun getting there. I would absolutely suggest using a different contractor.

He quoted the solution to my problem: a drainage system and the replacement of the posts. He also offered additional preventative solutions to preserve the life of the wood and to enhance the aesthetics of my crawlspace. Justin talked me through every solution and I picked the one I wanted after all the information he gave me. The crew was quick and seamless and there was good communication on the logistics. I am satisfied with the quality that was done and I would use Justin at Crawlspace doctors again. I would also recommend him and his crew to my friends and family.

These guys are as good as it gets-- we had crawlspace work done last spring on our West Nashville…read morehome. The Crawlspace Doctor did an inspection first, then recommended installing a french drain inside the crawlspace with a sump pump, encapsulating the crawlspace and putting a vent on our HVAC to keep things dry. That last piece was HUGE when comparing them to their competitors-- other companies we talked to wanted to charge us for a separate dehumidifier (which would have racked up thousands of dollars to our bill), but these guys put on a $15 vent that has kept our crawlspace dry even through all this recent rain. We live between the cumberland and richland creek, so there's a LOT of water passing through our yard, and their work has held up beautifully. My one regret was not asking where the sump pump water line was dug. We're planning on doing some digging and they didn't tell us where it was exactly (or I neglected to write it down... that's definitely possible). Most of our communication was texting, so if you would rather not share your phone number that may be a drawback, but Justin rarely texted us first unless they were physically coming over to work

I wish I didn't have to write this review: we had a great experience with the company a couple…read moreyears ago (so great that I served as a reference for them!), so when we needed help with a substantial primary bathroom renovation, they were our first call. Unfortunately, our experience this time around was terrible -- I cannot in good faith recommend them anymore. Giving two stars (rather than one) because the work quality was very good. Subs did a great job, were friendly and cleaned up after themselves. In the end, we didn't go over budget. But we paid a lot of money and experienced a lot of unnecessary delay and drama. In short, our project was a victim of poor communication and lack of ownership taking responsibility. We went through four project managers: the first went MIA on us, delaying the demo start by 6 weeks; the second hadn't read any of the project briefing and let us to believe none of our materials had been ordered; the third was too busy with other projects to make ours a priority; and the fourth was brand new, didn't really know what he was doing, and wasn't getting the oversight he needed from leadership. To the company's credit, they didn't end up charging us for project management--as we'd been doing a big portion of it ourselves. Ultimately, a project that should've taken 8-10 weeks took 16 weeks (and that's after the 6-week-delayed start). The thing that was most frustrating was that while Dan was fairly responsive to our outreach when things were regularly going wrong, he was also regularly pretty dismissive of our concerns and didn't take responsibility for all of the mistakes and screw-ups that were the result of his team's failings--failing to read the brief; failing to install underfloor heating and electrical that was in the brief, resulting in ripping up tile that had just been laid; failing to inspect goods on arrival so that they could be replaced when broken without delaying the project; failing to tell us about budget implications of design choices, etc. Dan will say I was mad when things went wrong, and that some of those things were out of their control. Yes, I was mad. But mostly I was disappointed that I trusted this company, and they took advantage of that trust.
