My daughter chose to celebrate her 13th birthday by paying $80 for a septum piercing at Island Republic in Bluffton, SC. During the appointment, she became uncomfortable with how the interaction was handled and decided she did not want to go through with the piercing. As a parent, I fully support her listening to her instincts in that situation. No service was ultimately performed. However, when she asked about a refund, she was told that none would be provided due to store policy. While I understand that businesses have policies in place, I believe there should be some consideration--especially when the client is a minor and the procedure was not completed. A store credit or the option to reschedule at a later time would have been a reasonable and customer-focused solution. Additionally, the response from the employee when my daughter expressed discomfort could have been handled with more professionalism and understanding. This experience left my daughter feeling upset on what should have been a special day. I mulled around the store waiting for someone else to walk out to ask questions to but when they did they also acted as if we didn't exist. Unfortunately the employee at the register wasn't the best at customer service. One of my friends fell in love with a dress that was discounted (as most of the items in the store are) and the hem on the sleeve was coming apart. She asked if there was something they could do to accommodate the faulty hem (pay for the stitch fix or discount the price by any amount -$5 would have worked or maybe even a little empathy). The associate said that the manager prices everything and accounts for any fixes like this in doing this pricing. She could not make a professional assessment and said that she could not make a decision without her managers approval. She told my friend that if she wanted to put it on hold and think about the purchase she could. She lost out on an $160 sale and the possibility of 4 life long Tibi customers. I spent $289 of which I've worked hard for - I make less than $30k a year. Very disappointed, however this is the very first time I've had anything like this occur. We did have a great experience with the older associate - she assisted us the whole time we were there, even while we were shopping when the electricity went off for 30 minutes! The smaller sizes were hanging right there on the rack, yet the older woman working in the store was unbelievably rude and refused to let me make the exchange. She kept saying she has worked there for 25 years and the owner would not allow her to do an exchange ! I find that hard to believe Her attitude was dismissive, unkind, and completely unnecessary. I was a loyal customer who has spent thousands of dollars there on their big resin mermaids, but after the way I was treated, I will never shop here again. Customer service matters, and Roberta's clearly doesn't value theirs. Save yourself the frustration--don't shop here
