I searched for nearby restaurants on a work trip and found this little gem downtown. Great Bend. The service was great and very attentive. The walls are a little dark inside so the ambience for lunch was more of dinner setting but still nice. Several people were in the restaurant as well as getting to go orders. Seemed like a pretty popular place. I am a sushi person and opted for that rather than other menu items. I ordered the spring rolls, dragon roll, and eel cucumber roll. The spring rolls were okay but they weren't my favorite choice and I wouldn't really get them again unless I just wanted that fried, crispy crunch. The dragon roll and the eel cucumber roll were nice. They were flavorful, well done, and the eel cucumber roll was crunchy as it should be. I would go back again to try more of their selection. We ordered a carryout which we have done in the past. This one happened to be very poor. I ordered the happy family fried rice, which is supposed to be chicken, beef and shrimp. I had exactly one small piece of beef: not very good, one piece of shrimp, not bad, and huge pieces of chicken more like chicken strips that had to be cut up with fork and knife. I don't recommend this. You're not getting what they tell you you're not getting what you pay for. My husband ordered something with soba noodles as a side and his dish was also pretty poor. Our first visit to this restaurant. As a lover of Asian cuisine I was not disappointed! Our entrees were Chicken Yakisoba and Beef Udon. Meat and noodle dishes. Having lunch vending Okinawa part of my young adult life in the 1980-1990s I tend to not favor American cooked Yakisoba. Unlike other Asian restaurants in a 65 mile radius in Hays, Great Bend, and Learned this food was GREAT! The chicken and beef were tender and delicious. The noodles are fried just right. Price for dinner for two, $30. We bought home two "doggy bags" the portions were so large. Other dishes include steak, seafood, chicken, and vegetable only dishes. Japanese sodas, in the funny bottles, are available as well as traditional Pepsi products. The wait staff were cheerful and friendly. The Ambiance was traditional Asian decor. Colorful lithographs of Asian scenery, red paper lanterns, and the ever present waving ceramic cat at the entrance. Chinese Fortune Cookies come with your check. I decided to go out to find something good to eat here in Great Bend. I settled on a restaurant that I'd wanted to go to for a while, but been hesitant because of elevated expectations - Mizumi Japanese Steak and Sushi Restaurant. Having lived in Japan for a number of years I'm something of a snob about these things. Well let me tell you - it was freaking AMAZING! Started off with an order of gyoza (potstickers) that were fried up perfectly and tasted great. My friend ordered a plate of fried sushi roll (can't remember exactly what all was in it) and I normally am just not a fan of sushi - especially rolls because I don't like nori (dried seaweed). However I promised to try a piece and damned if it wasn't tasty! The frying really made it tasty. Two for two! For our main course I ordered the hibachi grilled steak and shrimp. Oh my Lord!!!! The steak was just like I remember - moist and buttery. The shrimp was divine! Trying to be (slightly) health conscious I didn't eat too much rice... but even it was the good rice and it absorbed all that yumminess! My friend got the Thai Mango Shrimp. It was so flavorful and fresh and it had a really good balanced sauce that was both fresh and just the right amount of spiciness from the red pepper flakes. The bell peppers, carrots, and onions were perfectly crisp and so tasty! Finally we also ordered an order of their Mizumi fried rice. It has steak, chicken, and shrimp as well as pineapple and curry powder. Every part of that sentence there is awesome! It was perfectly fried and all the elements were tasty! The curry and the pineapple played excellently against each other to create an inviting flavor that kept us going back for bites. I can NOT recommend Mizumi's enough! read more

The food was delicious and the fried dumplings are so yummy you could make a meal from them alone. I had never tried them before. It's the first thing to eat when I go now. Great service. A very nice comfortable place to go have a date with your honey or your family. read more

This visit was my first time at Mizumi. I placed an order online (super easy to do) for pick up. I ordered a Cali roll, Dragon roll, chicken fried rice and sweet and sour chicken (kept it basic for the first visit) for two people. The sushi rolls are small but they were great. I would come back and try a few more of their sushi rolls and other items on the menu. They give you a large amount on the chicken fried rice. Keep up the good work, Mizumi! read more

THEY REPLACED OUR RICE WITH NOODLES. WHICH WAS THE ONLY GOOD PART 4) OUR MEAT WAS SO TOUGH U COULDNT EVEN BITE IT IN HALF. 5) EVEN THE SHRIMP AND SCALLOPS THAT CAME W/ OUR FOOD WAS HORRIBLE! I SPENT OVER $115.00 WORTH OF FOOD...HAD TO WAIT OVER AN HOUR AND THE FOOD WAS JUST CRAP! I called the next day for a refund and was wheeled and dealed by the Mgr. so that he would not have to give a refund. First was offered a free chk fried rice...really? Then 20% back on my entrees...which all my entrees were about $68...so if u know the math...its not alot back. I was on the phone for over 30 minutes with a worker that was actually a great help. Her boss however was just something else. He finally agreed to me getting a full refund if i went outside and dug through the trash and brought him back the uneaten food. With a pandemic going on...why would u even suggest such a thing? What kind of business owner would ever ask someone to dig in their trash PERIOD!!! Im sorry i was unwilling to dig in my trash. To end the experience he would not give me a refund! I appreciate his worker which tried her best to help me while her boss was constantly in the background yelling at her. Hi, I came in with my family tonight and needless to say--I was utterly disappointed. The service was booty; the food was mediocre. Little jimmy ordered the California rolls. He enjoyed them. He wants to move to California now. I told him when he gets a job he can do whatever he wants. Another positive encounter of this trip was the exquisite edemame and the spectacular spring rolls. Truly mind blowing. I brought my family with me today because it is my cousins birthday--his name is trevion. But, I also brought someone else special with me. I brought this girl on a first date with me to meet my family. Once I saw her, I knew we were destined to be together. That's why I wasn't worried about her meeting my obnoxious family. That was my first mistake. My brother kept making that's what she said jokes, and my dad kept making your mom is so... jokes. Well turns out her mom isn't alive anymore. That was my second mistake. So at this point it's been an hour and we haven't gotten our food, and she's pretty upset with my family. So she just left. I will never find love. (Sorry for the confusion, I was married. We had two kids. We got divorced) Alright so I will now talk about my kids now. They are brats. One word to describe them? Total whippersnappers. Since this is a Japanese restaurant, we wanted the full Chinese experience; So, we asked for chopsticks. Mistake number three. Little jimmy took the chopsticks and acted like a narwhals! Whatta silly goose! No one figured out how to use the chop sticks either. (I mean, it's two sticks. Asia, you can be a little more creative than that) But to get to the point, my kids had fun. Now, if you look at the graphic imagine I have attached, you can see that we have a wonderful Oceanside view from the main dining area of the restaurant. Such a relaxing and indescribale addition to the little restaurant in western Kansas. All in all, I'd say my experience was mediocre at best, maybe even a little life changing. Staff was rude, it took 15 minutes to seat 2 people. While Tables were just sitting dirty. Food was not the best, sushi was shorted and was not very good at all. The crab and lobster in the rolls were old and well over breaded/cooked. Sticky rice was just sitting out/ old. The hibachi wasn't bad but wasn't good either. I've ate sushi all over the country and this place is one of the worse I've personally had. The staff gave us an extra order of crab ragoons on accident ( which were just cream cheese) . When we mentioned the extra order they gave us by accident they were just rude about it. and the service got worse from there. I gave them away to another customer. I would not recommend this place. U could spend a fraction of the money at McDonald's or another fast food which would probably be better. I will not be back. read more

Who would of imagined a sushi place in Great Bend! But now there is...and it was very tasty! We just stopped on our way through but the spicy salmon roll was yummy and spicy! This is one of my favorite restaurants in Great Bend. It is a great place to go for amazing sushi. I like that it is quiet so you can enjoy your meal and the company of your companion. There is so many options provided on the menu and I have absolutely loved every roll I've tried. Recently I got a steak hibachi dinner and the meat was so flavorful and very filling. went here last night at 7:00pm ordered Hibachi vegetables with fried rice, husband ordered the Imperial... by 9:05pm all we had was the Pepsi and Dr Pepper waitress kept coming by and saying sorry for your wait, people seated even an hour after we did got their food....food finally came at 9:15pm all I got was the rice and the veg side, no Hibachi Veg. I asked waitress about it, and she said you did not get the Hibachi Veg. but did noting about it. the veg I did get was cold the rice was warm, husbands order looked correct, but diffidently not 13.99 worth. After sitting there waiting for ticket we finally had to ask for ticket and both orders were on ticket, I called the waitress and said surely you do not expect us to pay for the Hibachi Veg order, and she said yes? I told her no, said she would have to ask, about 10 min later she came back with a ticked for 20.99 for my husbands order and 2 drinks..... we put down 25.00 and left. will not return, maybe they are just to new yet, and don't have it down pat yet read more
