UPDATE It's been a year and three months since our wedding and we still haven't received any of our pictures, aside from a sneak peek image that was posted on her Facebook a few days after our wedding. Our last response from her was January 2017. Numerous individuals have reached out to me to share their horrendous experience, and it makes me distraught knowing neither us nor many other couples or individuals have been defrauded by Amanda Brooks. When a nice mama in a FB group we were both in posted about asking for advice on what to do with a photographer not giving them their photos, I messaged her and was deeply saddened to find out that it was the same photographer.. You. And her and I were not the only ones. I can confirm with your last statement. Yelp did delete reviews because I had left one in 2014 that is now gone. I felt I needed to tell my story as well. As for posting my photos, when you asked about sneak peeks I said clothed and appropriate for Facebook. You are right, the first was. And my statement stands. The next ones I was very uncomfortable with but did not say anything because I did not have my photos and they were in fact late. Once I received my photos I asked you to take them all down and you did. I do appreciate that! I did receive my photos (late). I stated that in my original review. But I did not receive my calendar - which was suppose to be my actual gift. Even after many many attempts to get in contact with you and even offering to pick it up. I completely understand things happy. People make mistakes - we are all human. But to cut off contact with your customers when you are behind is unprofessional and cruel. Your work is amazing - truly amazing and if this rating was regarding your work or even you... It would be 5 stars. I loved working with you! But the way you handled this situation (and others) is not right. As for the calendar, I would love the calendar... Again, I tried getting it by sending you many messages. Disgusted with this company and the photographer. I've never worked with such an unprofessional. DO NOT hire Amanda. Even worse, the fact that she comments on every negative Yelp review insisting that they are wrong shows complete immaturity. She does not take responsibility to her faults. The way you make your customers feel should be very important, however, nothing phases this girl obviously. She states that yelp deleted all her positive reviews and that is why she has nothing but one star reviews. HA Seriously!? A tip Amanda, fix your business and accept the awful service you have provided, just make it better! Why do you feel the need to argue with people's experience working with you.. when it's more than a few having a bad experience, it's time to look at yourself and your "business." Amanda (now owner of Indigo Studio) was responsible for many of the beautiful pictures in my home. I never had any problems or concerns until my friends (I recommended them to her for their wedding) were having serious issues. She was ignoring their calls and kept putting them off after the promised deadlines were passing. I put a deposit down on 2/8/16 for a session that was to take place around my kids June birthday 6/2/16. I didn't really need to contact her until a month out but started sooner because of my friends saying she wasn't responding. She didn't reply until a week before their birthday after repeated calls, texts, FB messages. It was apparent she had gotten rid of Mackie Jean (all social media accounts) and started under a new name (Indigo Studio) We discussed doing a home shoot because we had missed the birthday opportunity. She kept in touch for about a week and then nada until November 18th via text message. I would send her weekly reminders that she owed me. She finally responded after I began to be clear that I was moving forward on my end that this was unprofessional and bad business ethics. She attributed her lack of response to some personal issues and she said she'd pay me back my deposit asap. I take her word for it because she showed an apologetic tone at the end. It's Late January 2017 and we are nowhere. I will start submitting reviews under various sites (BBB under Indigo and Mackie Jean). I have been very nice about his situation and refuse to be rude. This is business and she has escalated it to this manner. If she returns the deposit I will update this and let you all know. Note: to this date my friends are in the process of legal action against her. She has disbanded Mackie Jean and now does work under Indigo Studio in Phoenix. read more

I received my pictures in April. According to the photographer, they were sent out in the last week of February, but I never got the link. Sounds like a technical snag. That being said, I never got a reply to the many emails I sent after that time asking for a status. According to the contract, I was supposed to get the pictures end of January. Better communication would have prevented this 2-star review. read more

MJ Photography is now operating as The Indigo Studio but it's still being operated by Amanda Brooks. Here is my experience - After my husband and I planned our anniversary trip to Sedona, AZ I decided it would be fun to take anniversary photos. I saw Amanda Brooks' work on FB and someone recommended her, so I contacted her. The initial communication was fine but after we paid our deposit, it would take weeks and even months to receive a response from her. As the date got closer, she finally responded. We met, had our photos done, she sent us sneak peeks the next day and I thought all would be good. The lack of communication started again! She emailed me on August 1st and said the photos would be ready in a "few" days and then she disappeared again. She breached her contract and did not provide the photos by her promised 4 week time frame and she refused to respond to any texts or emails from August 1st on. I did FINALLY receive the photos and I'm not sure why she sent me the unedited images. For example, one of the sneaks was edited and did not look anything like the image she sent me when she sent the final images via the link. Such a shame that there are photographers out there like this. A simple response of some sort would have be fine with me but the lack of communication is totally unacceptable! Clients beware and save yourself the frustration. Before you comment Amanda with your standard "you did receive your photos" YES, I did receive my photos BUT not in the time frame that is in your CONTRACT and the photos weren't edited like it stated they would be in your CONTRACT. Maybe you should study up on the definition of a contract! read more

I received my images after a three month wait and being ignored for over two weeks of trying to get in touch with Amanda to see why I hadn't gotten them yet. I only received my images after having to get in touch with regulatory agencies, filing a PayPal claim, and also asking for advice on social media. Amanda is very talented and I hope she can resolve her personal issues in the future so others do not have this same experience. read more

Shouldn't even get a star! I can't believe I dealt with this true BS! After many emails, text messages, and phone calls not a response! Per her contract I was to receive my photos within 3 weeks "maybe sooner" yeah right after a month and a half I hadn't gotten a response from her. After a hefty amount of messages sent through Facebook and email I got a response that she had broke her phone and had no way of responding to me and she had sent them to my email..... What message? I don't know what she's smoking but I did NOT receive an email for a week and a half. I was getting frustrated and had to take legal matters, after reading so many negative comments about this "professional photographer". After receiving some legal advice they told me to message her one last time because I was thinking about taking legal action. I messaged her one last time letting her know she has failed to own up to her part of the signed contract. She messages me a couple of days later through Facebook and sends me them through there. The result of them were plain $h!t she only highly edited one of them. That is the picture that she posted on Facebook and everyone liked yet no one saw the true messy and unprofessional job she really did to the rest of them. I beg you NOT TO HIRE HER! If I could rate you, it would be not one damn star. We hired Amanda for our wedding out in MI, for June 24, 2017. My husband and I invited Amanda out for coffee so we could meet before the wedding since we are from PA and her AZ. The phone conversations were phenomenal. And meeting her was even better. I thought I had found a friend forever. We clicked instantly. She knew what I wanted, we had the same taste. Everything. Since she was from out of town, I wanted her to feel welcomed so I invited her to get pedicures with my family, I even invited her into my own families home. Day of the wedding was perfect. She spent so much time with us, even saying "these are the best pictures she's taken". Which, they absolutely were. Beautiful from the ones we got to see on her blog. Amanda was great with communication, until we started to ask for our gallery. I got extremely scared because you only get ONE wedding. One. I needed my pictures. It was way past the date the contract stated. So my husband and I tried reaching out to her via text, email, phone, social media. Nothing. She deleted everything I posted. She never responded. We still haven't gotten our photos, or anything stated in our contract. Amanda, if you're even reading this... shame on you. You should feel terrible for what you do to people. These are special days! A day I will NEVER get back. I don't know who hurt you so bad that you feel you have to do this to other people, but shame on you. I let you into my home. I upgraded my review to a 2 because we finally got our photos. It took 5 months and a ridiculous amount of back and forth to receive our photos, so I still can't recommend this service to anyone. I'm just glad we finally got what we paid for. read more

We were so thrilled with our photos! Our little guy is SO tough to photograph, especiaslly with new people. She did an amazing job getting him to giggle! You can tell she has little ones of her own. Fast turnaround as well. I loved getting the digital gallery instead of a CD like I have gotten in the past. Made it so easy to share! I can't wait to plan another session! read more

We had such an amazing experience with Amanda and Mackie Jean Photography. From start to finish, she was incredibly hands on, took her time, and was able to capture some beautiful moments of my family. I have 3 small children and she was calm, and warm towards them. If I could rate a zero, I would. We hired Mackie Jean Photography for newborn pictures. We have had nothing but problems. Amanda (the owner) called and cancelled on us AFTER she was already suppose to be at our house. We had our family ready for pictures, my husband took 1/2 day off from work, and were left hanging. When we rescheduled with her (giving her another chance), she promised that she'd make it up to us. However, she arrived over an hour late!! Unfortunately, that was just the beginning of our problems. Per HER contract, we were to receive an electronic link to our pictures "within 4 weeks (maybe sooner)." Oh how we were mislead. After MANY e-mails to her asking when we could expect ANYTHING (without a response), here we are 11 weeks later with no pictures or link to our gallery. We payed up front and are now out $350 and cannot redo our daughter's pictures now that she's 3 months old. We were not able to send out newborn announcements, fill all of the frames in her room, or make Mother's Day or Father's Day gifts we were planning on making using the pictures. If you're a fan of reliable, timely service and prompt responses to reasonable inquiries DO NOT use her. read more

I contacted this photographer last year when she was running a sale for black Friday. I purchased a photography package that I was able to use anytime during 2016. She promptly responded at that time and sent the invoice. So I was excited. I paid the invoice and was super excited to use it on my family pics in the summer or fall. I have been trying to contact her non stop since June to schedule my session and have not heard from her once. I have sent her messages via Facebook and Facebook messenger, text messages, post on Instagram and also have gone on her web page to the contact us link. Her Facebook page is no longer active but her personal page is so I have also reached out to her on her personal acct. She has also closed her Instagram account using Mackie Jean photography but has opened a new account using the business name of the Indigo Studio Indigo studio az. I have also posted and attempted to contact her on her new business account. I have also gone on the new business web page and filled out the contact us link and have not heard back. So disappointing. I have used several photographers and WILL NEVER USE OR REFER Mackie Jean or Indigo Studios. read more
