Let me start out by saying that Mark and Karla know their stuff and are oh so nice. My 2007 f150 was running rough. I took it to 3 other automotive shops to find the problem. No one knew what it was. I was thinking the worst, could it be the transmission? I found MKS Automotive on yelp.com. I took it over to Mark and I explained the problem while he listened. Then he drove my truck with me in it and the problem occurred. Mark figured it out right away. A spark plug was misfiring. I can honestly say that Mark and his wife are very knowledgeable and most honest people I know. You don't find many people who will help you out the way they do especially in the automotive industry. They are straight forward and tell you what is really wrong with you vehicle. 100% trust them after having them fix my A/C. Went to different places and they all said it was the A/C compressor. Took it to them as I was recommended by a coworker who has taken his cars to them and told me I can trust them. Mark took me into the shop and showed me what was really wrong with my car and why the A/C wasn't working. He explained to me that the compressor wasn't the problem but that the evaporator had a leak so all the Freon was leaking from the system. Thanks to MKS Auto my cars A/C is back and running like new again. I highly recommend them and will continue to take all my cars to them. read more

I've been going here for all of my mechanical needs since the year 2000. I've never been disappointed with any repair, I usually have my car in 1 day unless it's a major repair in which case I have it within two or three days. Mark, the head mechanic is not only a great mechanic with major dealer experience having been a service manager for years, he is also an engineer and one of the nicest human beings you will ever meet. I found out about MKS from my sister's boyfriend, who has been using MKS for many years. He has trusted his Infiniti to them several times, both his older one that he traded in, and his newer one, which he still drives. I also saw all the positive Yelp reviews, and the fact they have been open for over a decade, all of which back up the fact that MKS must be doing a good job, given that Miami is full of mechanics. MKS, by the way, stands for the initials of the husband (Mark) and wife (Karla), and the S stands for the first letter of their last name. I had an oil valve gasket leak issue on my car, and the dealership quoted me a figure close to $1,000 to repair it. I reiterated that I have been a loyal customer and they said the best they could do was about $800, and that was with customer loyalty discounts, etc. That was the only thing they would address though, for that price, so anything else would be an extra charge. I was upset about the price and decided to do some sleuthing. I joined car forums, searched YouTube videos and thought I could try to do it myself. A few YouTube videos convinced me that this was too much work for me and I should leave it to a pro. Still, people talking about this issue would mention mechanic quotes for half the price (or less) than the "lowest" amount the dealership was quoting me. Many people who owned shops in other states said that this should not cost more than $400-$500. I decided to ask my sister's boyfriend about his mechanic, thinking he used a dealership, like me, since he, like me, keeps his vehicles for many years (though I have kept mine much longer than he has and plan to hold on to it for many years to come). He said his guy, Mark, was reliable and honest, and not too pricey. I booked an appointment with Mark for a consultation and he said my problem was going to become serious and even more costly if it was not addressed soon. Understood, but what was the damage? Well, he said he could just repair that issue, and it would be in the $350 range (less than half what the dealership had quoted me), or he could add some additional services that the car will need eventually down the line (ignition coils) and save me the labor cost of doing it down the line since they had to remove the intake manifold for both the gasket issue and the future coil issue anyway. I figured why not, it's a heftier price to pay now, but in the end, it will save me about $300 of labor costs to remove the manifold again in the future when the coils go bad. I booked my early morning weekday appointment for the following month, since it's so labor intensive it could not be done on a Saturday, when they are open for about 4 hours, and came back this past Friday. He threw in the replacement of three ignition coils, the six spark plugs, oil valve gasket replacement, checked my tires, brakes, changed my oil, gave me a new oil filter, and new windshield wipers (which hadn't been changed in years), all for less than $700 -- STILL cheaper than the dealership and with tons more thing included! He also taught me how to change the front ignition coils, should they go bad, since those are easy to replace (they replaced the 3 rear ones, which are more involved). I got to keep the 3 rear ones they removed, which are fine, and can now use them to replace the front ones whenever they go bad and give me trouble. The free mechanical lesson was pretty cool. I mentioned a tire noise and vibration issue to him, which he checked out, and said it was the result of the tires I had in the rear becoming lumpy (guess those used tires I bought in Longwood back in November weren't so perfect after all). At that point, he could have said my tires were worn down and I needed new tires, but he said other than the noise and vibration, the tires were fine. The threads were not worn and there was no need to replace the tires, unless the noise and vibration were so bothersome. I thought that was incredibly honest, considering he could have told me my tires were in bad condition and I had to buy new ones. He said I could take my time and replace one down the line, and then the other, or none until they were both worn down, but I was in no danger whatsoever at this time. Like I said, that was impressive. I have kept the noisy performance tires since I just turn up the music and can deal with it. I don't carry many passengers often anyway. I appreciate Mark talking to me in an upfront, honest manner, and his wife was also really cool (thanks for the parenting advice, Ms. Karla)! read more

Mark, the owner of MKS, is the most knowledgeable and ethical person anyone can find to fix their vehicle. Mark has solely worked on every vehicle I have owned over the past 15 + years. It is so comforting to have a person of his caliber to rely on. When my Mother was still alive, he would check her car, and many times, refused to accept payment from her for minor problems. My two daughters know to only take their vehicles to Mark. Recently, a member of my family, who lives approximately 40 miles from Mark's shop, attempted to have his vehicle fixed by a local shop. Well, after the local shop diagnosed his vehicle as having numerous different things wrong with it, including the engine (we're talking about serious money), I strongly suggested that his vehicle be towed to MKS and let Mark determine what was actually wrong with it. The vehicle was towed to MKS that afternoon. Mark personally checked the entire vehicle and before noon the following day, the vehicle was fixed, for a total cost of $362.25, including the towing charge (obviously, the local shop's diagnosis was bogus). Well, my family member was absolutely thrilled. It is so frightening to be at the mercy of sooo many mechanics, that you just don't have confidence that they're making the correct diagnosis or is not totally honest. This is especially true when your income is limited. My advice: TAKE YOUR VEHICLES TO MARK!!! read more

I've taken my 2011 Toyota Yaris to MKS Automotive three times in the last few months. I have referred both my best friend, and my own brother to this shop. I've been meaning to write up a review about my experience there. I want to start by saying that finding an honest mechanic in Miami (I speak from personal experience) is never easy. "Honest" is simply not synonymous with Mechanic. With that, I would like to say that MKS owners, Mark and Karla are stellar human beings. When I was first referred to the shop, I had no clue what was wrong with my vehicle, and could have easily been taken for a ride by any savvy mechanic. At MKS Automotive that was not the case. Mark is an honest family man and a master at his craft. The work is thorough, and triple-checked; and the price is right. Not only was Karla friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient; but she also gave sound advice on how to trouble shoot certain problems on my own. The team at MKS got right to it; they checked every point, and gave flexible, realistic estimates. My car was in and out of there fast- and performing like a dream. I couldn't wait to spread the word. The fourth time I visited MKS, I brought a friend and his car; by then MKS already felt like family. My friend was very impressed, and he ended up referring his sister's husband. I hope that flawless word-of-mouth travels FAST- because these guys truly deserve it.
