The artist did such a beautiful job! So many details and it was so neat to see places you have passed a million times made of paper. The kaleidoscopes were very pretty and a fun touch. We had great seats in the orchestra section. With a circus theme and a great story, it was very entertaining. The theater was opened in 1920 but had significant renovations completed in 2022.

Let's visit Neverland…read more Ed Mirvish Theatre is a historic downtown venue that continues to put on many of the popular productions that are in the city. We caught several broadway shows at this vast venue, including Peter Pan. We were impressed by the aerial lifts, dynamic backdrop and the swift Tinker Bell glow. The modern special effects of the show are a neat contrast to the 1920s architectural styles and decor of the historic building. The theatre has been kept in pristine condition, and the seats are comfortable. The foyer can hold a packed crowd during intermission, and features a grand staircase & concessions. Note the current theatre name is CAA Ed Mirvish Theatre but be careful not to mix this up with Mirvish's other CAA Theatre that is 20 minutes walk north. Glad we made it ahead of showtime in spite of this!

Thanks to Kat F. and the generosity of the Yelp Weekly sponsors, I was among the lucky handful of Yelpers who got free tix to see "Puppetry of the Penis: The Ancient Art of Genital Origami" at Elgin & Winter Garden Theatre Centre. But before the main event, we had to endure 40-some-odd minutes of yet another tired-ass female comedienne's routine. This time, Shelley "cock and chocolate are all I want for Christmas" Marshall was serving up a big platter of mediocrity. If a raunchy version of the Cathy comics is funny to you, then you might've liked her. Personally, Marshall's brand of humor has me groaning in pain more than laughing in hysterics. She was in her element, though, as she had the almost-entirely menopausal audience in stitches. After a long intermission, the evening's stars took center stage. I was under the impression that the performers are Australian so I was a little bit disappointed when the puppeteers, Christopher Cannon and Rich Binning, turned out to be American. An Aussie accent would've made this so much funnier. They're also much younger (and cuter) than the original performers so I felt a bit like a perv staring at their peckers throughout the show. Apparently, they're in their early 20s but they look like the fresh-faced high-school kids who might shovel your snow this winter. The title of the act is also a bit misleading; Cannon and Binning do not use puppets. They stand before you completely buck naked and their only "props" are their respective schlongs which they manipulate into various poses. Some music, sound effects, and canned comedic banter intersperses each dick trick and the shapes they create run the gamut. Some are no-brainers: The Pelican, Yoda, A Man-gina; others were a "stretch": The Eiffel Tower, The Windsurfer; and still others had me scratching my head, wondering, "How in the hell...?": The Wristwatch, The Baby Bird, and their pièce de resistance, The Hamburger. Not knowing how close I'd be to the stage, I brought my binoculars. But I really didn't need them as we were about six rows back. In addition, the funky junk is displayed on a projection screen magnified large enough so you can see every hair, goose bump, and wrinkle. Kind of gross but these features really came in handy when representing KFC extra crispy chicken. Like I said, the audience was mostly older women and judging from their reactions (and rather immense proportions), I'd put the majority of them in the cock-and-chocolate camp. They were hooting and hollering, practically in tears. One woman was doubled over in so much laughter, she looked like she was going to tumble out of her balcony box seat and go splat on the floor. Overall, I'm glad the ticket was free because I wouldn't pay $50 for a performance like this. A few of the PotP moves would be sure to amuse as neat parlor tricks but an entire show devoted to them? Meh. Once you get over the shock value, the penis puppetry quickly devolves from phallic Cirque du Soleil into Cirque du So Lame. P.S. Yelp is asking, "Good for kids?" I'm going to vote yes, just cuz.

It is owned by the Ontario Heritage Trust rather than one of the billionaires of the world. Habeeba is extremely technique oriented and is touching base on topics I have never encountered before. With only one class a week I'm improving immensely and it's obvious I have so much to learn from her. I see what she has achieved for the dancers in her troupe and that's proof enough for me that I'm taking classes at a quality dance school. Two classes at Habeeba's and my technique had leap-frogged! I was amazed. Moves I thought I couldn't do, styles I thought I didn't like ... kaboom ... Habeeba changed my mind. Habeeba is a truly gifted instructor - really watches her students and is extraordinarily aware of what everyone in the room is doing - very proactive re preventing injury. Habeeba is particularly gifted in developing choreos to work with her individual students' strengths. I had always admired her troupe's shows at the CNE. Now I know why they are so good. The studio itself is a wonderfully warm space, with a variety of other classes offered, TTC accessible. Super love this place and the classes offered.

The music and songs (mainly the group ones) seem have a similar volume to concerts. The lines (non music parts) were understandable. In terms of seating, I would pick the elevated levels (dress or balcony) compared to the (back) orchestra. Entering was straight forward. They don't really check bags. They may check larger bags like backpacks. You can bring and fill empty clear plastic water bottle at the bar (on the 2nd floor). Drinks, snacks and popcorn are your typical staples and are priced similar to other venues.

Most importantly, it's a welcoming atmosphere. They accommodate drop-in classes at any level on almost every day of the week. I take sessions (approx 8 weeks long), which are a great value. The session "curriculum" is always clear and delivered by the very best teachers who really care to see their students reach their dance goals and laugh a lot during class. Sometimes we drill isolations or learn the basics of Saidi or focus on the building strong, elegant arm movements, or dance to a few rock songs. (While the basics are sound, there's a lot of fusion too.)
