I've been in therapy with Maine Spine & Nerve since December. I was in constant pain, and unable to…read moresit or perform normal activities when I first sought care. I thought my only option for relief was surgery of which I had heard dire results. I read about decompression therapy and was relieved to see that there was an alternative to surgery. The doctor's at Maine Spine & Nerve took a thorough physical and oral examination including x-rays. The diagnosis indicated that I was a candidate for decompression therapy. At no time did they guarantee a cure, but given my condition, they had seen others with similar injuries who had relief and returned to normal daily activities after decompression therapy. They did indicate verbally and in writing that I was also responsible for working within their care guidelines in order to maximize the recovery efforts. Today, I am out of pain, able to sit comfortably, returning to a light exercise routine, and starting physical therapy. In closing, I am so thankful that I went this route instead of surgery. Thank you, Dr. Van Ploeg, Dr. Mueller and staff.

He did spinal injections which did not last more than a month. after NSSD the tingling and pain in his right leg and thigh is gone and has been gone for at least six months. He can do things now that he was unable to perform last spring. I have multiple problems. My first concern was neuropathy and I sought relief through Maine Spine & Nerve. From the get-go, Dr. Vander Ploeg informed me that he could help but because I'd suffered for so many years with this condition, I could expect only partial relief. He said a 40-50% reduction in symptoms and I feel that I achieved at least 60% if not more relief. I also suffer from back pain. I have been referred to orthopedic physicians for injections and physical therapists for physical therapy. I went to an acupuncturist. Nothing helped. Because of the success my husband has experienced, I know that Maine Spine & Nerve will be able to reduce my current pain. Further, some insurances do cover the cost of these treatments. Unfortunately, ours was not one of them. Would I recommend Maine Spine & Nerve to any of my friends? You bet! I already have. You couldn't ask for or find a more friendly, congenial and caring environment. Thank you Dr. V, Dr. Meuller and staff. Elsie and Harold Cebulla

Once they saw him, he was rushed into surgery immediately. 5 hours as his appendix was going is awful!! I know that wait times are very long in ER's everywhere and that's the norm, but to leave someone who is acute needing emergency surgery and in dire pain for that long is inexcusable. There were patients everywhere laying in the hallways and not enough beds or staff. Is this place dangerously understaffed? Care seems severely compromised here.

Wound Salvage with Dr. Nguyn: After eight years of…read morestruggling with a chronic wound from a hiking accident, I reached a point of deep depression. I felt that losing my leg was my only path to freedom, so I sought out Maine's only Wound Salvage program, led by Dr. Nguyen, specifically to request an amputation. Instead of confirming my need for surgery, Dr. Nguyen--through her immense knowledge and the leadership of an incredibly dynamic team--found a solution. With humor, passion, and genuine compassion, she healed my wound and, in doing so, gave me back a life I had forgotten. Living with a life-changing physical ailment is a heavy burden. When you meet a doctor and a team who bring warmth to a cold procedure room--offering not just hope, but true healing--words aren't enough to express the gratitude. No gift or amount of Italian or Greek food could ever show what this staff means to me. Dr. Nguyen, Dr. Z, and the entire team at the MMC Wound Salvage program and Maine Medical Center Wound Care are the most authentic, hopeful, and caring medical professionals I have ever encountered. After eight years of endless procedures, my "last hope" became my only path to recovery. In under four weeks, my chronic wound is gone.

It is not a fringe or obscure plan -- it is coverage earned through real sacrifice. To be turned away from this practice simply because they don't accept ChampVA was a gut punch. We aren't asking for special treatment. We are asking to be treated like any other patient. When a medical practice chooses not to accept insurance that covers veterans' families, it sends a clear message about who they value -- and this practice has made that message loud and clear. I urge this practice to reconsider its insurance policies and think about the veterans and military families in this community who deserve access to quality care.
