While L'Antiquario specializes in the shady speakeasy style and variations on classic prohibition cocktails, Platanos is a bit different. The bar space is colorful and hip, and the bartenders are friendly and chatty. We were there fairly early on a Saturday night and the place was dead, but that meant we got to spend some time with the bartenders Giuseppe and Raffaele as they mixed up our drinks. This place is an interesting fusion of a tiki bar and a cocktail bar. It's less about that 60's island fantasy and more like ... modern tropical hip. But the cocktails were solid and the atmosphere was fun. I enjoyed a Canchanchara with Havana Club 7 year, honey spiced syrup and lime. Simple and delicious. I then enjoyed the Ceylon Old Fashioned - which uses Arrak, palm sugar, añejo rum, pineapple bitters and orange curaçao. My partner had their Platanos Daiquiri, which was blended with fresh bananas. All the drinks were good and fairly balanced. The prices are average for a good cocktail bar in Italy and we'd happily come back again.

We tried many things, all were good. The most exceptional were the beef tartare, fried cod with cauliflower and the spaghetti with seafood. We also tried pork belly, fried seafood with salad, tuna tartare with mozzarella, mixed salad, and pasta with tomatoes and mussels from mt Vesuvius. We had an early lunch so we were literally the only ones in the restaurant on a random weekday at 1pm. We ate on the beautiful outdoor patio area that was essentially enclosed in a tent, perfect for the slight chill in the air today. The locals would probably call this place expensive but for a group of 4, we spent about 120 euros including a few glasses of wine. They also have a nice 4-course tasting menu for 35 euros, 50 if you add wine to each course. For us, for the quality of the food with all local ingredients, it was certainly well worth it. Overall, a nice slow-paced restaurant to rest our feet while sipping on some local wines and tasting some good food after a long morning's walk in Pompeii.

Like Guinness tasting better in Ireland., gelato tastes better in Italy. I. Additional to gelato, De Vivi has a scrumptious pastry counter and coffee bar. Like heaven on earth. Like most places in italy, you first go to the cash register, pay for what you want, then go to the food counter, give the attendant your receipt and get your gelato or pastry or coffee. Not touristy. Many locals were hanging out enjoying their treats. Well worth the visit.

Really soft and fresh and had the perfect amount of sweetness and that hint of lemon coming through. Such a good dessert. I could totally have another slice! Crostata al cioffolato - chocolate flavor was nice but the pastry was a little too dry so overall this item wasn't as nice. Affogato - quite a large amount of coffee and the gelato felt a little too less. So the espresso flavor came through very strong. Love the presentation for this though! Passion fruit gelato - had a little tanginess to it (not properly sweet) but I actually quite enjoyed it! Kinder gelato was probably the favorite among the other gelato flavors fried. Dad and brother both ordered this! They had a lot of cakes on display that looked extremely delicious and tempting as well!

The owners are the nicest people ever and were so proud of their beautiful city. The bar looks out to a beautiful view of the plaza and Santuario. Great for people watching and escaping the hot afternoon sun. We ended up spending a fair amount of time here and also tried some of their cocktails which came with FREE local made snacks that were so INCREDIBLY tasty. My husband tried the "Granita di limone" which was like an Italian shaved ice slushy made with local lemons- it's heaven. People know how to live here. If I lived in Pompeii, the Yume No Bar would be my go-to spot.

We cringed at the thought that we were met by a "barker" as we walked by with promises of "fresh juices" and delicious pizza, but being thirsty and hungry, we willed ourselves to enter this establishment right in front of the Villa Dei Misteri entrance of the Pompeii ruins. Our server was par for Italian customer service (no smile and no small talk) but that's a given with most of Italy. The juices were indeed refreshing but I think the OJ had add-on sugar on it because it was just too sweet. We were surprised by the quality of the pizza (our first in Napoles, the birthplace of pizza) and the freshness of the seafood in our pasta. No additional parmesan or red pepper flakes needed. For some reason, our server got us bottles of olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Maybe because we spoke English, hence she thought "American". Well surprise, surprise. I actually enjoyed the Quattro Formaggi (four cheese) pizza with the dipping sauce made common allover the US of A. FYI, bread service isn't free in Italy. A great experience. It fueled and refreshed us weary travelers to go through the rest of the afternoon and night in this quiet Italian town.
