Do NOT do business with this outfit! Mobile Home Stuff of Ottawa put up our carport in April of 2017. On Sunday, February 11, 2018 at 5:23AM we were awaken by the crashing down of their sloppy-shoddy carport on top of our car! Talk about trauma!! We are senior citizens.The carport messed up our car and tore siding off the side of our house because it was attached to the house. We called Mobile Home Stuff to tell them their carport had crashed; we left a voice message as Feb 11 was a Sunday, On Tuesday they sent a man who actually asked: Did you get a lot of snow? Was there strong wind? I told him: NO, I said, there was no huge amount of snow nor wind adding that this is Chicagoland--we get snow and heavy winds all the time and they should build their carports to withstand the conditions of this area! (Never mind that our carport is not out in the open but has a 4 foot cement wall on one side, is directly attached to our house on a second side, and has another house ten feet to the third side, making it quite sheltered (!); so it is impossible for the wind to get whipped up in its location.) They came out two days later (Thursday) to clean up the mess so we could see how damaged our car was. There was NO conversation with MHS other than their man showing me how the end of one of the iron beams was rusted and broken from its brace. We are having a new car port being put up but we are (obviously) not going with MHS. Our new contractor said MHS didn't put up enough beams: Where they put up THREE, Harry says they needed to put up FIVE. Now, we are paying more for this new carport than the one we bought from MHS but we would have paid more for the first one; our only mistake was TRUSTING that MHS knew what they were doing. And, NOW--to add insult to the injury--MHS is billing us more than $1K for their having cleaned up what was clearly the mess THEY made. Do NOT do business with this outfit. No way. Note: I came back to edit this review once I remembered how their guy showed me the rusted out beam. I also want to add that I do not think my expectation that MHS would know how to build in Chicagoland is unreasonable, particularly since their business is based in even colder, snowier, Wisconsin! We didn't sign for any thing, they did not speak to us about what they were doing, and they gave us no reason to expect such a huge clean up bill. We figure with all of the trauma, their failure to make a safe and reliable carport, and all the additional expenses we have had as we pull our home back together that their cleaning up their OWN mess was the least they could do. read more
