The weather is REALLY hot; so why not take a FREE trolley to your hotel, museum or restaurant? Locate any of the twenty route stops by the electric aqua blue metal park benches with a brightly colored umbrella. Do I got your attention? Trolleys seem to come every 15 to 20 minutes. Really, how cool is that? Make your first stop the Welcome Center located at the FREE fort...and be apprised of the hidden gems. (There are many) The Welcome Center staff couldn't have been friendlier, in our experience yesterday, and truly provided great advice on places to check out for eats, sites to see and explore. By the way the trolley stops at 6 pm weekdays and the SPECIAL NOTE is on Friday night at 6 pm weekly, the streets close for a rolled into one: arts, gallery and pub crawl. Lots of foot traffic and really neat. Come aboard the MODA! and explore Mobile's new scene.

So I had not a great trip here to these parts and now I am sitting here...online...talking to my beloved Barbara...and she is consoling me. Great friends! Let's rewind a couple days. It was Christmas eve.... I had a tough situation and decided it was time to come home to LA...so my awesome friend Karisha and I drove from Pensacola, Florida to this airport. I missed my flight by 30 minutes. And had to turn around and head back to Pensacola. Sad. The ticket agent was like, "Why didn't you call first?" I said, "Why? Where I am from there are flights anywhere 24/7!" Spoiled again... The airport is small, it has a strange sculpture in front, and only 2 bars!!!

The airport has done an amazing renovation over the past two years and it's so nice. The terminal area has some nice, clean, bright shops to invite the traveler to the area. The waiting area is also extremely bright. The waiting area is also lined with rockers for family members and friends looking to relax for the wait. Its renovations have made it a comfortable, regional airport to travel through.

There's a clear clique includes the manager, Michelle, and a woman who said she worked for her. A large white dog identical to the woman's jumped on my car and scratched the side of it -- and they insisted the dog was "never off leash." Witnesses told me they'd seen the dog off leash. In speaking with Michelle, she insisted her own dog was a "service dog" that it was the only one who could be off leash and it was "never more than 5 feet from her." Alabama law says otherwise, and her dog was not even with her at the time. The law says your property/yard/lot. Michelle works there, she doesn't own the RV park. If you're a Snowbird or traveling with pets, avoid this park. Regular guests get targeted while her clique gets away with anything.

Unfortunately, several things made the experience less than ideal. The WiFi was extremely slow to almost nonexistent, which made it difficult to get anything done online. The bathrooms were locked during our stay, and the office closed before 4 PM with no staff visible on site, so it was hard to get assistance if needed. The campground seemed to function more like a long-term work camp than a typical overnight RV stop. There were quite a few older RVs that appeared to be permanent residents. We also noticed a lot of feral cats around the property, and several residents were driving through the campground pretty fast, which made it feel a bit unsafe for walking around. It worked for a quick overnight stop, but based on our experience we probably wouldn't choose to stay here again.

What is the point of a tour when the seats face inward? Why is there no padding? It would be more comfortable to drive a Mexican school bus along the causeway. He's a huge history buff and they were doing the Civil War cruise today. We boarded the large pontoon at Blakeley State Park and set off down the Tensaw River, then doubled back down the Apalachee and Blakeley Rivers, for an hour and a half trip led by Captain Steve, and two very knowledgeable Blakeley Park Rangers, Mike and Brian. Along the way, we learned about the forts that were built to protect Mobile as we passed the sights of major battles of Fort Blakeley and saw where Forts Tracy and Huger once stood. We could see the remnants of the walls of Fort Huger, which was built on a mound in the marshes near where the Blakeley River flows into Mobile Bay. The sight of Spanish Fort was not preserved and now has a subdivision built where it once stood. On the two screens on the boat, they displayed a power point presentation featuring the Union Generals and their troops, the maps of the battles, and the underwater torpedos. We also learned about the extensive research on these lesser known, nonetheless, important battles of the Civil War, as they led to the fall of Mobile on April 12, 1865. While aboard, we watched and eagle chase an osprey, a flock of pelicans, and another lone pelican that decided to give us an up close and personal look at him, as if he were a plant by the Explorer crew to remind us that they also host a birding cruise. In addition to the Civil War cruise and birding cruise, they host a sunset cruise, port of Mobile cruise, an adventure cruise, a luncheon cruise, and a Bottle Creek Mound cruise. The pontoon is equipped with a restroom, more than enough life jackets for everyone on board, and the boat and Captain meet the Coast Guard requirements. We were in good hands. We only paid $27 per person and it was well worth it. The cruise was so fun and relaxing, we're already taking about taking the port cruise, sunset cruise and the Bottle Creek Mound cruise. The cruises are set up through Blakeley State Park, and they post information about them on their Facebook page and website if you're interested in going on a boating adventure.

The bathrooms are nasty, feminine product papers all over the floor. smells like raw sewage in laundry area. honestly hoping someone else purchases the property or I will not be going back as long as under this management.
