The Paschals…read morecover everything on their property in lights every year and people come from all over to take a stroll around their 5 acre or so winter wonderland. They have little buildings you can go in and see model trains running, a nativity scene in one and in one little building you get a cup of hot chocolate to sip on as you walk around the property enjoying the lights. Santa has his own post also, kids can sit on Santa's lap and snap some pictures. You can also drive through the property if you want, they have a paved drive that takes you through, you just have watch for folks walking around. There is no admission fee, they do accept donations at the exit so be sure to drop'em a few bucks 'cause the power bill has got to be insane with all the lights they string up each year. This place is out in the country on a 2 lane road in a residential area, so there are no big parking lots, people park on the sides of the road and alot of the neighbors open their yards for parking at 2 or 3 dollars per vehicle. A really neat spot to visit if you enjoy Christmas lights...and if you don't, well you're just a scrooge.

This is a great walking trail in the heart of rockingham county, Wentworth. It's right next door to…read morethe old Chinqua Penn mansion, which is now closed. The parking lot is semi well lighted but they do close the trail at night. Not officially like with a gate or anything, but I wouldn'r stay out there after dark because there is no lighting on the trail. During the walk, you'll get to see a pond, koi pond, cows, water fall and most likely a lot of critters. Dogs are always welcome there leashed. We take our German Shepherd on walks there and she loves it. We let her play in the creek during the hike. I believe it's 1.5 miles total. I wouldn't say it's a hard hike by any means, but there are some hills throughout. They do have benches in case you need to take a break. Very pretty and a great place to relax and get some steps in.

Everything appeared well maintained and clean which was lovely. There are benches throughout the pathway where you may enjoy some sightseeing. Do stay hydrated during the hotter days, there are no shortcuts back to the parking lot. It is one way in and one way out that loops for roughly 1.6 miles. Overall a great experience. Dog-friendliness: Doggies are allowed.

My family and I drove from Waxhaw to Gold Hill on a Thursday only to be met with disappointment…read more Most of the shops in this little town are only open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Dang, bad timing on our part. We still enjoyed walkin around town and seeing what we could see from the outside. I know my grandma really wanted to see the shops, though. All we were able to do is see the park which was open. That was pretty cool. There is an old jail there when you first drive in. And a bunch of old mining equipment. The coolest part of a crevice in the rock. There is a small set of stairs which goes down deep enough to see it. I don't know why that as so cool but it was. Since we wanted to see the shops and looked to see that they should be open on Sundays, we came back just a couple of days after we first came to Gold Hill. Struck out again! The shops still weren't open. It was a little early (11:00ish AM). We were hoping and expecting at least a couple of the shops to be open. What a bummer that they were not. Maybe the fall is off season and the summer would be better. I don't know. But we had just wasted another trip trying to see this place and ALL that is has to offer. So, 3 stars for now based on what we did see. Maybe if I can come back and go into some of the shops some time then I can reevaluate and increase the star rating.

In a world that's often hustle and bustle, the Village of Gold Hill is an oasis of serenity. From…read morethe quaint stores, to the welcoming shopkeepers, it was a superb experience. I'm so glad we went!
