SABRINA GILLESPIE IS THE BEST! After years of sun-in damage, over processing my hair and bad habits I had significant breakage when I first came to see Sabrina. I was almost embarrassed to go to the salon because of the amount of breakage I had. I've never been able to find a hairdresser who was so patient, and non-judgmental about the damage that I had. From the start she was completely honest, and she told me what it was going to take if i wanted to get my hair strong and healthy again, and most of all she made me feel extremely comfortable and confident that we could do it together. After consistently going to her for a year, She completely brought my hair back to life, and now I absolutely love my natural hair color too! Her priority was always the health of my hair and getting it back to the way It used to be. NOTICE HOW MANY REVIEWS MCKENZIE MIRACULOUSLY RECEIVED AFTER I POSTED THIS REVIEW!!! SHE TOLD ME THIS SALON BUYS REVIEWS, when I was in her chair. Made an appt with Maria D'Angleo, an experienced stylist as I needed color correction and new extensions (Great Lengths has her listed as a tape-in stylist). When I met her, she immediately referred me to McKenzie because she did not do tape-ins. I asked her, if McKenzie had the experience since I was already traumatized by my previous experience and I was not willing to take another risk, she reassured me she could take care of me. I trusted McKenzie and she colored my hair to at least be one color, the roots turned out much darker than the rest of the hair, not to mention it is now a super dark brown, DDEFINITELY NOT WHAT I WANTED. Now, when it came to extensions, McKenzie recommended I go with wefts..."everyone is going with wefts and I install them often" I made the mistake to trust a hair stylist with 1 YEAR OF EXPERIENCE. Now, $1,386 later + $150 tip. The wefts are of low quality, itchy and straight as can be, when my hair is wavy. They are super thick as the supposed infinity wefts did not come in my shade (my hair is now dark brown!), she doubled the thick extension and I had her redo one of the two rows she did, as it was super thick and was lifting through my hair! I went home uncomfortable and told her, let me try and get used to these, since I've always had tape ins. I tried to style them, however, not only could I not put my hair up (which she stated they were better for this) as you can see the thick ridges on the sides protrude while hair is up. I've had extensions for many years and NEVER have I not been able to put my hair up..until now!! Also, I she did not install ANY hair on either side to blend the weft extensions, so it basically looks like a long mullet; is this how women with wefts walk around? I DONT THINK SO!! I messaged her and she first said "you can order tape-ins" I'd like to know if she's planning to pay for them? I already dropped almost $1,500 (including tip)!! Or she said "we can order a pack of tape ins and put them on the side but they'll probably show" What Really??!! This is your half assed solution and I'm supposed to want to drop another pile of money for your trial & error at my expense?!! If you were unable to properly install the weft which you convinced me was a much better extension option why would you even sell me on the weft extension? I noticed she only has 1 year of experience since she got her license, I'd like to know why the owner Stefano or another senior stylist doesn't overlook the work of inexperienced stylist in training, yet the salon will bill them out as experienced stylists I tried reaching out to Stefano the owner to try and resolve the issue and got no call back. I did receive MANY texts and messages about wanting my review as they claim to care about your experience. Well here it is, NO THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOUR EXPERIENCE AND I DO NOT recommend this place for ANYTHING, NOT FOR COLOR AND DEFINITELY NOT FOR EXTENSIONS. My color turned out way darker than I wanted, so overall not a positive experience, I was very hopeful AND I AM BEYOND DISAPPOINTED. READ ALL the reviews before you come here and consider yourself forewarned. Called to see if accepted walk ins. Was very specific about what I needed. After being advised they did, I drove over 5 minutes later & was told it would be a 3 hour wait! Didn't have the time to wait so called the next day to make an appointment. They refused to make an appointment unless you allow them to keep your credit card on file! I asked for a balayage to be made out of what they previously did an ombre. I thought my base color was too dark. I explained this in detail. I wanted it lighter around my face. Hairdresser (I won't mention name) said she could do some highlights to the top color and tie it in, so I agreed hoping she knew what I wanted. I got WhitE pinstripes that didn't match the brassy bottom and looks like a 1990 home style cap job. I had a different stylist Leslie do the Brazilian blow out. So once it was done and I saw the color, I was disappointed. The first girl came over and said it looked good and I said I didn't know it didn't seem what I wanted. I wasn't offered to retone or fix it, they were busy. I'm embarrassed to go out like this and spent $350 that's ridiculous. I'm calling back over there and asking to see how they can help, I'll let you know what happens. I called, went back and had it toned. It looks better. But not what I wanted initially. Leslie fixed it the best possible at that point but my hair got unnecessarily damaged because of this. Leslie was great, I'll go back to her. She was patient and took her time. read more

My first time here was excellent. Was a new customer, had a great haircut by Cari. I asked for a long shag but it was more like long layers, but I LOVED it. Went back to her a few months later, she truly didn't remember me or the cut I had, so this time it was just okay. A little too short for my liking but it's only hair. It grows. Next time, tried to get a Saturday appointment with her but she didn't work Saturday's, so I got Sophia. Cool girl. She definitely picked up that my hair was my identity, & she gave me an okay cut as well. My last, and FINAL visit, I asked for the cut & wOw, did I get a cut. I won't name drop on this one but it sucked! The next day when I conditioned my hair & attempted to style it as usual, it was all choppy. I mean it looked liked Jim Carrey's cut in Dumb and Dumber on top of long hair. It's crazy because there's an older review on here by a girl who the stylist used the razor thing so much in an attempt to hide her mistakes, and that's pretty much what happened to me. It looked amazing when I left the salon but I cried the next day. Going back to my old salon soon, hopefully with long enough hair to sacrifice in order to start over. Bummer. read more

In February I went in for a hair trim. After checking in, I noticed someone standing from across the room staring at me. She came to the front desk then slowly walked over to me while I was sitting down . This women who I found out was the manager, said to me that her stylist was uncomfortable doing "kinky hair" and that she will "try" to find someone else who would be able to manage "my type" of hair. I said my hair isn't anything more difficult than anyone else's. If I wasn't in a time crunch I would left at that very moment. Wow ...and this is not a good wow... just moved here and my teenage daughter was looking forward to getting her hair cut. We picked this salon because they use Kevin Murphy. We came in for our appointment lady at front desk was friendly she went to get our stylist and this is where it went downhill. KB (Kristina) came up front looked us up and down and just said hi not friendly at all no smile and it was a strange greeting. I asked if I could come back to explain what we would like for my daughters haircut. She didn't take us back to the chair just took us to the washing station. I tried to show her pictures and she looked upset and aggravated that I would want to discuss the haircut. Just answered with short answers. At that point I didn't feel too confident that she even cared. They proceeded onto the haircut while I waited. The haircut turned out fine, but it's what she said to my daughter when she was done was shocking. She gave my daughter a mean glare and said "do you trust me now" and then took the haircut cape off and walked off. So rude! This is not how you treat customers. Going to the salon is supposed to be fun and relaxing. This was not. I don't know what this woman's problem was but I know she has it in her to be nice and smile because I saw her with her other client. I doubt this review would ever change anything because it something internally that needs to change with this woman. read more

My 16 year old daughter goes and my 14 year old son gets his unibrow threaded. Yes, you men need to get that unibrow taken care of! Rini can thread any part of your face too. I called to speak with the manager in charge and rather than management handling the issue and try to make the customer happy; she let The stylist get on the phone, and instead of trying to resolve, it ended up to be an argumentative conversation. Whenever there is an issue with a customer. Management should handle it, not the employee! I don't know where this manager received her management degree or hospitality, but this is not how you handle a dispute! Terrible customer service. I have been coming here for 2 years, and you would think they would do whatever to keep a customer happy. I have recommended 5 people to this salon. I gave this place plenty chances. I would like to say though, my first experience at Moda was great. Leslie, who cut and faded my pixie did a phenomenal job. Keep going girl and leave Moda. Which leads me to explain where it went downhill, second time I went to get a fix on my pixie, Carrie I believed who 'faded' my hair did a terrible job (the photos I inserted is what she did) and I was charged 60 dollars for it. My boyfriend called furious because he was upset about how bad it was, and how much I paid for it. We went back and we were confronted by a man named Stefano, who told my boyfriend to stay outside and told him he was acting 'crazy' for complaining about how bad the hair was. I was very polite and even tried to tip Carrie, she did not even fix the problem fully but I felt bad since im not a confrontational person at all. However now, I am speaking on my mother's behalf since she is the same way as me. My mother went in today to get her extensions fixed and Madalyn, who was assigned to her. Looked at her extensions and threw a tantrum, she stated that she wasn't going to do mom's hair because it was knotted. This is completely unprofessional, this was the appointment she was paying for and the hairdresser complained about doing her job. She also complained loudly in front of other customers to hear and made my mom feel humiliated and uncomfortable. After that, Madelyn left my mom with one extension hanging and went to another customer next to her. My mom then went to the supposed manager, Maria,and expressed her problem. Maria then just stated that its knotted, and went and told my mom she was going to talk to another manager. Why did she have to talk to another manager if she is a manager? My mom is a big tipper and never left under 20% but she had no choice but to leave nothing at this appointment. This establishment is completely unacceptable and completely overpriced. They rely on customers for their business but yet treat their customers like they did something wrong and their employees complain about doing their job. I highly recommend when reading through these reviews, you reflect on this one. Im complaining because I gave this place multiple chances and they screwed all 3. Don't waste your money here. And the only reason I gave two stars is because of Leslie. If it wasn't for her. I would give this place 0 stars. Unbelievable. The second time I showed her a picture to duplicate the color but it came out much darker (she should know I prefer lighter). I told her I wasn't satisfied and instead of assuring that she will fix it for me, her manager Rachel called to say that we need to part ways and she issued a $160 refund which was $60 short. When we called about the shortfall, she said that I wasn't dissatisfied with the cut but would ask the owner to credit the full refund. Owner never called. Moda doesn't care about 100% satisfaction! Okay, so I know my profile states I live in Miami. Because the truth of the matter is, I do. And I drive an hour and 45 minutes twice a year to visit Stephanie for my hair. Anyone that knows me, knows how picky I am about beauty services, for instance, I've had the same eyebrow lady for the last 10 years of my life, my nail lady 5 years before her I did my nails myself. So you already know when I decided to take the leap and dye my hair I studied Stephanie's work long and hard before I made the appointment. This is how the story of Stephanie and I's relationship started. I usually get my hair cut at Aveda, it's down the street from work and school, so it's easy. So I made an appointment for a balayage and haircut, but left the stylist part open. I, then went on Instagram and searched the hashtag #AvedaInstituteFortLauderdale and found @HaircraftbySteph, I lurked and lurked and finally messaged her on Instagram. She replied within 24 hours and told me she had graduated from Aveda a couple months before and was working in West Palm Beach. I thought to myself "dang, there goes that"... Boy was I wrong, I found out she works on Sundays and could accommodate me as soon as the following week! I see "hell yes!". After that, I exchanged hair color ideas with her, explaining to her I had virgin hair, it was long, it was thick. She didn't mind, she super excited to work with me. I thought "this is great!" A week later, on November 20, 2016 I drove up to Southern Boulevard and the Turnpike and met Stephanie. Texted me first thing in the morning to wish me a safe drive and all! First of all, she is the absolute sweetest individual I ever met, ya know that sweet grandma everyone meets? NAH! Stephanie is sweeter! She was super patient with me being really anxious and nervous. This was my first real deal salon experience, so I was really nervous to spend an entire day at a salon. But she walked me through it and assured me I'd be okay. I was able to bring my laptop and do some homework while I cooked. She gave me a trim, and even showed me how to use the wand on my hair to give me those "effortless waves". The final product was amazing! I was so shocked and happy. I left there smiling from ear-to-ear. So much so that two months later on January 8, 2017 I went back and went BLONDER. Again, she was super duper patient with me and took her time, treated my hair and everything because the drastic change. It's important to note, this salon uses Kevin Murphy products, which are cruelty-free and are simply amazing, last time I was there I purchased the shampoo/conditioner she used on me because I loved it so much! Now queue, nearly a year since I met her. I scheduled my next appointment for December, I did cheat on her and go back to my natural color butttttt..... fear no more. I will back to blonde in no time! And I can't wait to see Stephanie again and again. If you want a caring hairstylist, who isn't there for a quick buck Stephanie is your girl. She truly cares about making you feel and look your best all while being an absolute sweetheart, I can guarantee you she will NOT let you leave unhappy. read more

This salon has a great reputation around town, and I am completely horrified by what happened to me. I made an appointment, had a quick consultation with the stylist Lauren Marina, we talked about my hair and that going lighter would be a process which I more than understood as I've had my hair many ways in my lifetime. As for the cut she explained she would put some long layers in, and take some of the weight out. As she was cutting we talked about the fact that I lived over 2 hours away, after she cut she started to blow my hair out and midway through stated she was going to curl it, so she did. It looked great curled.. I was charged $233 and I left her a $40 tip. 2 days later I washed my hair for the first time, straightened it and was horrified. The layers look as if she took a ruler and clippers and cut straight across at different lengths, not only that but where she used thinning shears right where I part my hair where its brutally obvious (yes, we discussed where I part prior to her highlighting it) there is a huge portion of my hair that is literally 2 inches long. She knew the cut was bad when she randomly decided to curl it to hide it, knowing that I lived 2 hours away. I have never in my life had a haircut be completely butchered before at a salon, and the worst part of it is that she knew what she did and instead of coping to it and having someone fix ir, she covered it up. its absolutely disgraceful. Almost $300 of which I understand most of was for the color and I'm left with this wretched haircut. I messaged their fb page along with the pictures and another stylist Maria apologized and said that I could make an appt for a re-cut with her, as nice as that was I AM NEVER STEPPING FOOT INSIDE OF THAT PLACE AGAIN! UPDATE: since posting this review Rachell, the manager, and management became aware of the situation.. she messaged me immediately and apologized profusely. I called her as soon as I could and again she was extremely apologetic, she was understanding and compassionate and assured me that this wasn't something the company stood for. She proved to me that the company did have extreme integrity, I was given a complete refund for the service, and told that if I ever did decide to give their salon a shot again, that my next service would be free of charge. I have given them 3 stars because of this. I would give them 5 for post situational customer service. She assured me they would handle the stylist situation internally which also eases my mind a bit. I'm keeping the review at a 3 just because their may need to be more education in these kinds of cases but I put almost 100% blame on the stylist in this situation, not the salon has a whole. read more

I was so excited about my appointment and trying out this new salon after reading all the reviews. I went into get a balayage (my ends were already pretty light). I showed the stylist a picture I saw on their Instagram of what I wanted. I asked her if she thought it was doable, she said yes. So i didn't really have any concerns when she started processing my hair. My hair looks absolutely nothing like the picture AT ALL. I now have two different colors in my hair. The blonde at the bottom looks exactly what I walked in with. The balayage at the top of my head is a completely different color and almost looks orange. I could not be more disappointed and for almost $300 this is not the result I was hoping for. I spoke to one of their manager names Rachel asking her for a partial refund so I could go get it corrected somewhere else. They obviously don't stand behind the work of their employees. Throughout the the conversation she was so disrespectful calling me "Hunny & Sweetie". I asked to speak to the owner & was told the owner would tell me the same thing. I have never been to an establishment where they will not correct something when they are wrong or made a mistake. I had to find a place to get a decent stylist. On the pricy side but I'm funny about my hair. So upon my 3rd visit I thought I'm going to get the Brazilian, I asked the stylist how much and she said $250. So I went in and got my roots covered and a few highlights. I was excited with summer coming up no frizzy hair. Wasn't what I thought, my hair is just limp and wavy. I wanted straight hair. So I walked out nearly $400. Lighter in the wallet and bummed. Moral of the story, maybe my hair was not appropriate for the Brazilian Blowout. It even had a funny texture to it ( my hair ) So when I do it again I will make the trip to Len Leon down in Fort Lauderdale and do the dreaded 3 day deal! Lesson learned. I don't know that I blame the salon but w all the Groupon Deals for $99 I wish I would've went with that! read more
