This place is wonderful, my fiancé and I started taking lessons here for our upcoming wedding, and we aren't the best dancers. We've had 4 lessons so far and they have more than paid off. All the instructors are great but I want to shout out our instructor, Jason. He is extremely patient, gives honest feedback, and is encouraging. When you can't dance it is similar to public speaking, when you get nervous you feel almost sick, and the embarrassment can be overwhelming, but I've never felt that while learning. Sometimes there are other people there waiting to start their lessons so they're watching, but it doesn't matter, you get lost in the learning and it's soooo much fun. This is an amazing dance studio, but here's a word to the wise if you don't practice you won't get better. There's only so much a few lessons a month can do. Get the best out of your money and take those lessons out for a spin (literally, we spin a lot). Wear comfy shoes and don't waste anymore time, this is the place to learn. read more

We joined this dance studio to brush up on some steps for our son's wedding but we have decided that this is a fun way to spend time together and get a little bit of exercise. The instructors are extremely friendly. The instruction is very easy to follow and step by step. We are truly enjoying our experience at this studio. All the other customers are friendly and eager to learn. The social parties that the owner throws are like going to someone's living room and having a potluck with added dance lessons. We highly recommend and enjoy modern ballroom dance studio and will continue our membership for a long time. read more

This is an incredible place with a happy atmosphere and talented instructors! If you are looking for a date night idea, want to reconnect with your partner, learn a new dance or be prepared for your wedding, this is a fabulous studio! The instructors are kind, patient and fun individuals who truly know the art of dancing to many styles. They encourage you, practice with you and tweak your moves to ensure you too, are a stellar dancer on the dance floor! Highly, highly recommended! read more

We LOVE what we do and want to share it with the world! The mission is to prove to everyone in D.C. and Virginia that anyone can learn to ballroom dancing. Being the Ballroom Experts doesn't just mean we are good at dancing; it takes a lot more than that. We pride ourselves on offering the best adult dance classes in the Northern Virginia area. Everyone learns differently, with some people learning visually while others are analytical. Some need counts and numbers while others like sound effects to learn. Not only can we break down every step in several ways, we take the time to figure out how you personally learn so that your journey is fun and successful. Your experience is based on how good your teacher is, and therefore we train every day to make sure you have the best time learning to dance.

History

Established in 2015.

Although our business is fairly new, the motivation to open the studio came from working with franchised studios for almost 18 years. Modern Ballroom owner, Landra Vallejos, spent much of her teaching career with Arthur Murray Franchised Schools and realized there was a need for a fresh approach to ballroom dancing. Potential customers are looking for more than fitting into the cookie cutter format she had been taught previously. In addition, teachers need a way to sustain a career they can thrive in which is how the idea "Modern Ballroom" came into fruition. Personalized teaching from great instructors with a modern approach.

Meet the Business Owner: Landra V.

Landra has a passion for dancing and a love for people. She has set out on a mission to change the dance industry one step at a time by providing excellent instruction in her ballroom dance studio, and the interpersonal supports which will improve the overall learning experience for every person that walks through her doors. She has been dancing since she could walk and made ballroom dancing a career in 1998. She spent years competing toward the goal of U.S. Champion in the American Rhythm and American Smooth categories but gave it up to start a family. She has won Top Overall Instructor world-wide, Top Manager and went on to became a traveling consultant for various studios. Now, she has opened Modern Ballroom with the goal of building a dance community here in Woodbridge, Va. In her own words, “I want everyone walking into my studio to feel as comfortable as walking into their own home. We are family, a dancing family that will continue to grow year after year!”

I was told I needed to leave because I had "touched the talent." This accusation surprised me -- it simply didn't happen. The area was pitch black, and I held onto my friend's arm to stay together, not reaching for or guiding anyone else. Regardless, we didn't want to cause a scene and decided to leave quietly.
