It's never a good thing to walk out of a hairdressing salon desperately wanting to ram a paper bag over your head, but that's exactly how I felt walking out of Modern Cut at Knox City last month. The woman who cut my hair did not listen to what I wanted and I had to remind her to cut parts of my hair that she had missed. She also cut my fringe so that it was a mere 2 cms long, rather than sitting on my eyebrow line as requested. I was so angry looking in the mirror at the end of the cut that I was speechless. When I was overcharged at the counter, it was the last straw. Safe to say, I am never going back. The salon is almost always busy, particularly on weekends and late night shopping nights. They have a couch/poof thing in the middle of the room and people sit here to wait their turn. The hairdressers get easily frazzled and rush their work leaving people like me totally horrified with our new appearances. The woman who cut my hair didn't cut the sides and told me it was done. Horrible service the other day. I went in as it was quiet and I needed a trim.. biggest mistake.. The man that served me was not friendly, all he did was ask what I wanted and I told him to only trim the back and sides, and to leave the fringe. He ended up cutting my fringe which annoyed me... another thing is that there was no manager to complain to and there is no easy way to contact them about this horrible service. read more

Horrible! Asked for a cut just below the shoulder bone and got a short uneven bob! I'm convinced she did this so she could use my hair as extensions as (i had really long hair) because she double checked where i wanted it cut and when i said it was too short after she butchered it, she didn't even know how to sound genuinely surprised. She just said oh sorry i thought u meant your shoulder bone here. B*tch please, that's the top of my collarbone. Even an 8 year old would know that. I'm furious as it took me ages to grow it!! Needless to say she has only been a hairdresser for 7 months..why would u even risk people's hair like that? And worst of all the layers are uneven and i can't tie my hair into a pony tail without short bits being left at the back. And NO i didn't ask for layers. STAY AWAY!! read more

I needed to change hairdressers, and impulsively chose Modern Cut. Then, once I was in there and in the chair as they mixed my colour, I Googled, and only found negative reviews! But I was clear in what I wanted in both the colour and the trim, and the price was much less than I was expecting and very competitive with other salons in Knox. I'll be going back. read more

Love this place. The staff are great and yes can get busy and behind but I havent had such good cuts in years. I am a loyal return customer.

Went in this morning and told one of the girls I needed a trim. There were 4 people already there having their hair done, and about 2 others ahead of me. She told me to take a seat and wait, and I did.... for about 15 minutes. During that time 2 others walked in (also without appointments), and were attended to first. At no point did they acknowledge my existence. Very poor service, bordering on racism. Will NEVER go back again due to their pathetic service. read more

I've been regular customer with Caroline for 5 YEARS. Made appointment on the phone as usual for my special Birthday party this year, organized babysitting for my 3 years' old and rushed to the center. Imagine my surprise when I discover that my hairdresser isn't there and the owner has no idea if she will come or not. Anyway, I double check that my phone number is in their book and ask the owner to call me immediately when she appears. Waiting for the hairdresser, hanging around the shops-no calls from them . After all I understand that nobody is going to call me, I check the shop again in 2 HOURS TIME. Can't describe how furious I was when I discovered Caroline busy with the customer and their boss Robert whom I was talking to before was also doing somebody's hair. I came straight to him asking what's going on, he's replied that "Caroline is coming for me..." Nobody knows what did he mean by that, so I came to my hairdresser asking if she knows that I'M WAITNG FOR HER FOR 2 HOURS on my birthday? All she said was "sorry". Asked her why didn't they call me at least to say that I shouldn't waist my time-no answer?! Then I've returned to the owner saying: "I've been your regular customer for 5 years but never will come back again". He's just interrupted me saying that he isn't interested and he doesn't care! What's this attitude, how can you treat people like this at all, not saying about business! So rude, mean and nasty! My day was ruined, I can't stop thinking about this ugly attitude. Do not go to this salon. Went in to the Modern Cuts store at Northland to get blonde foils as I have done many a time elsewhere. Left $150 out of pocket with a brown patch of hair on my forehead and bright orange regrowth. To make the experience even worse I received only an offer for a toner to be put through which would not last long. After calling multiple times and visiting twice and speaking to incompetent staff I am still waiting for a call from the 'owner' about the possibility of getting a refund. read more

I was time poor, went in for a trim, my hair was shoulder length bob, just wanted the ends off. The hairdresser first commented about my "faded hair colour", I told her it was a semi, & definitely not faded (what was it to her anyway?). I asked her to take about an inch off, no layers just a simple straight cut to tidy up my bob. She took more than an inch, my length now is up to my chin, & the most uneven "scrappy" looking cut & yet she had the audacity to comment that the previous hairdresser didnt do a good job. When she was drying off my hair, clearly didnt even know how to dry off, waving the dryer all over the place, leaving my hair to frizz & she burnt my head in the process. Tried to ring them to complain, phone number disconnected. I now have to pay extra to have another hairdresser even it up. $35 for a cut only, no shampoo, seriously, I think my 11 year old daughter could do a better job! Never going back! read more
