I am traveling on business with hubby. Our stay here has been longer than expected. So I started looking for a laundry fluff and fold since I really don't want the hassle of buying all the laundry products I need. Saying that this is a very clean and professional place. Even more so to our regular fluff and fold place back home. So when I picked up all of my items everything was done perfectly, the folding and hanging. Also I had thought I had clothes missing and I called with my concern. Immediately they reassured me they were going to look and after a few minutes even the owner took the time to call me. Looking further at my clothes and talking to my husband I'm embarrassed to say I was the one that miscounted the clothes we brought. I didn't call them because I'm that embarrassed but we have stayed longer than expected (again) so I made my hubby go and drop off the clothes this time. All I can say is that I love this place and I am sorry that I made an issue out of my own mistake. I wish there was a place this clean and professional in my home location. read more

I've checked in a few clothing items here once and I happen to like this laundromat. Yelpers had great reviews for Modern Laundry and I based my decision on people's positive experience. I actually believe Modern Laundry is more equipped than most laundromats. This location has wifi. The vending machines have a variety of well-known snacks and beverages. There's a media section that appears to be designated for children. The section features tv programming for children. There is always more than one attendant on duty. I remember the staff returning my missed call within minutes! read more

Definitely recommend if you're in town and need to do your laundry quick! We used the drop off rush service, dropped off 9lbs of laundry (they have an 8lb minimum) around 9 am and picked up clean and folded at 2pm. Saved us so much time so we could enjoy more of Santa Barbara :) read more

If I had to use a laundry mat in Santa Barbara again I would most likely not choose Modern Laundry. I understand the appeal of the payment by card option but they do not even have the coin option...which is unfortunate if you are anything like myself and laundry is the sole purpose for saving your quarters. The whole prepaid card system is flawed because the card itself costs a dollar which if you are not a regular of that facility pretty much means that you are paying a dollar more than you should have to, and then on top of that I'm pretty sure there is not a refund option and the lowest amount available via credit card is $10. They should really offer .50 increments. Parking is a struggle given its location and proximity to a Starbucks (probably my only favorable attribute). They had wifi but it requires that you register online and create an account which takes a lot longer than it should. I know I'm borderline nitpicking at this point but I'm pretty sure wifi should just be automatic these days. Maybe I shouldn't write reviews right after I have a bad experience because all the negatives stand out but I just don't want anyone going to this place with super high expectations like I did! read more

Were I able to give zero stars and put them out of business, I would!!! I have been going to this laundry mat since it opened. I have yet to have a complaint satisfactorily answered. Until last Thursday all my complaints were minor. Now I live in absolute misery and need to spend about $2,000 to replace all the clothes and bedding I washed there on Thursday. When I got home I figured out that a contractor had washed drop clothes filled with fiberglass in a machine that I used next. For those unaware, fiberglass gets into fabric and never comes out. Especially natural materials like all mine. I went back and proceeded to wash them all again, ten times. After ten washes [About $100 worth, plus detergent and a lint roller I bought for the purpose] there is virtually no difference. I am unable to sleep in my bed and every article of clothing I wear makes me itch constantly. On top of that I breathe it all day and all night long. Again, for those unaware, fiberglass ultimately causes cancer. California and other government agencies have recently removed some forms of fiberglass from Prop. 65 etc. It is still known to cause cancer in lab animals. And my nose is burning constantly. None of the fact that I have to replace virtually every piece of fabric I own is the problem. The problem is the fact that when I brought it to the attention of two attendants, they scoffed at me and then BLAMED me. One said "If you see something like that and don't tell us then what can we..." I cut her off there. I DID NOT say I saw it. I deduced it. I am a contractor for 55 years. I know and understand all these things. YOU DO NOT WASH A FIBERGLASS LADEN DROP CLOTH IN A MACHINE USED TO WASH PERSONAL ITEMS. It is that simple. But rather than even attempting to appease me or tell me they will pay more attention in the future they scoffed and blamed me. THE PROBLEM IS THAT ANY PROBLEM YOU HAVE THEY REFUSE TO EVEN ACKNOWLEDGE MUCH LESS DO ANYTHING ABOUT. I will NEVER return to that laundry mat and am in the process of finding out whether I have any legal recourse. I too am going to post this review at every site I can find to do so. read more

Our washer broke and we needed desperately to do some laundry. Found Modern Laundry on Yelp, so I gave it a try. Facility was clean, machines were well maintained. Parking was difficult. Prices were a little on the steep side. But, all and all, got the job done. Would go back if our washer goes down again. read more

Haven't been to a Laundromat in more than 50 years but the MUDSLIDE made me do it. Boy! How times have changed! My recollection & expectation was grunge and musty odors. What a pleasant surprise to walk into a sparkling clean and spacious area with more machines and friendly employees than I would have expected. Whoever came up with the idea of a monetized card instead of quarters really made life easier. Although this was my first visit, I's say that the Modern Laundry sets a new standard for what used to be an unpleasant chore. Let's rename it the Super Modern Laundry!! read more

I hate doing laundry, but I love coming here. Always clean and tidy, the space always has good music or films playing too! Plus free WiFi? Home run. The staff is super friendly and helpful-even today when I got stuck with a broken dryer (didn't realize until 60 min later), the team offered to take over and not only made sure my clothes were dry, but folded them and kept them behind the counter...for FREE! My partner and I did not have a good experience using the fluff and fold service at Modern Laundry. When we picked up our fluff and fold order we had some missing items and a damaged item. I talked to the manager without much success at figuring out what happened to these items, but then the owner did get in contact with me. We spoke over the phone and we worked out an agreeable solution. Although we will never use the fluff and fold service at Modern Laundry again, the business does have several nice washers and dryers available for you to use and the space is clean. read more

Only been twice and it's fairly nice. Had a bad experience today (second time going), as there was dirt residue in the dryer from (what i'm assuming) someone before me. Got weird stains all over my clean laundry and I was very disappointed. While I know it wasn't the laundromat's fault necessarily, I don't understand how there was dirt in the dryer? I didn't see anything when I put my clothes in, but obviously my clothes came out stained/dirty. Wish I had time to tell the staff/rewash my clothes but it was late. Will still go to this laundromat (cleanest in my area, good location - Starbucks and Ralph's) but I'm going to be more aware with the dryers. Really disappointed I came to wash my clothes and had to come home with dirtier clothes. read more

Well back in April while attempting to do a load a roach was sitting on the machine. I don't know if its because of the restaurant nearby or the patrons but that was disgusting and disturbing. They employees show favoritism to the Spanish speaking patrons and disrespectful to most other specifically the short female with the attitude. I also witnessed them sorting someone's laundry on the floor just poored them out.. They never do anything about filthy dogs that come in (non service animals). The number of homeless that are either doing drugs or taking a bath in the restroom is ridiculous. Its hilarious because when the owner comes in to check up they change the music to English and then when they leave they blast Spanish music. Please diversify your staff and clean house. The need for another location out of this neighborhood is needed and clearly certain people are not treated with the same amount of respect as others. Until then my coins are going else where. This review is long over due: first let me say me first time in here I loved it. Clean, great service and the staff walked me through with everything!! The owner of the building helped with setting me up with my laundry card to washing my clothes! Everything is super efficient and just like the owner said a little goes a longggg way. My clothes always smell fresh and the dryers were perfectly. While I wait I watch 1/3 of the tv's and help myself to the venting machine. I will always come here and can't wait to run into the owner again. PS I headed their wash and fold is great!! Haven't tried it yet but defiantly will for some of my higher end clothing . read more

During a visit to Santa Barbara in the middle of a 10-day vacation, we needed to do laundry, or have it done. We opted for the latter and chose Modern Laundry. Even though we did not use the machines, the place was spotless, with lots of washers and driers that seemed in excellent condition. Our laundry was ready when we wanted it to be, the cost was reasonable and our clothes came back folded as well as we personally would have done (which we've NEVER experienced from a laundry before). I used Modern Laundry for around 6 months, with no issues. However, my final time using them they lost 3 shirts out of my order. When this was pointed out to them, they avoided my repeated calls, and have made no effort to make me whole or compensate me even partly. I finally spoke with a manager who said one of the owners would reach out, but I have not heard from them. I will not return to this business. read more

Welcome to laundry heaven. First of all, it's huge! Here's the rest: it's clean! And you will see staff cleaning while you're there. You will also see 5 + huge flat screens on the wall, along with vending machines filled with laundry necessities and snacks/drinks. The machines: various sizes of commercial grade washers & dryers. Washers range from $3-$6.50 and dryers are $.25 or $.50 for 7-8 minutes (depends on size). There are always staff around and they're nice and helpful. I think they also offer washing/folding services - ask the front desk. Parking is not usually an issue unless it's peak after work hours. Walk to Starbucks while you wait - or sit at one of their tables or chairs and enjoy their free wifi. Forget the quarters- this place uses laundry cards you can refill on your Visa/MasterCard. This place puts my old laundromat to shame, and it's closer to home, cleaner, nicer and all around better (no more quarters!!!!!!) Last wash at 9:30pm. read more

Living in the general vicinity for the last few years, I've had to rely on using dirty, overpriced, mediocre local Laundromats to wash and dry my clothes. The recent opening of Modern Laundry has truly been an asset to the area. I arrive each weekend to a clean, shiny facility that is bright and tastefully decorated. The pricing is competitive, there is a great TV lounge area, free Wi-Fi, and CREDIT CARDS ARE ACCEPTED! That's right, no more having to gather up those quarters. To me, this is a serious bonus. My favorite part of this new facility, hands down, is the service. No matter the time of day, I have always seen multiple smiling employees in this establishment cleaning and chatting with customers. Late one evening, I had gotten home to realize I'd left my brand new Costco-sized box of Bounce dryer sheets on top of a dryer. This box wasn't cheap, and I was already kicking myself for negligently leaving it (likely for another lucky customer to relish. Thinking of the low probability that it had been turned in, I went in the next morning to check. I was greeted by the same woman who had been working the night before; she did remember me, and to my delight, handed me the box! She had mentioned that she saw me leave it, and immediately took it into the office to safeguard. If that isn't superior customer service, then I don't know what is. I will continue to use Modern Laundry as my go-to laundry facility for as long as I live in the area. Heck, if I ever do move to another neighborhood, I may still come back. Could not be more pleased with this establishment. Always clean and has a good feel, like the employees there actually enjoy their job. I didn't think I could like this place anymore and then I tried their fluff and fold service. Immaculate, absolutely perfect. All my clothes were returned perfectly folded and clean like I had just bought them. They even use environmentally friendly detergent! I'm sold! I was soaked from the rain and decided to dry my jacket and sweater. Loved the cute laundry carts provided along with the music and TV showing sports. This place is huge although seating in limited. Decided to try this place out because my usual place was super busy. This place is very clean and the pricing for the washers are competitive. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Since it was my first time there the gentleman working was nice enough to give me cash for my roll of quarters and he even took the time to show me how to load money on to the card. However, the dryers do not dry your clothes and as a result you have to put spend more money for your clothes to be fully dry. With the dryers requiring you to spend more money makes me think that this is how this laundromat gets you to spend more and more money. read more
