Having spent thousands of dollars with them over the past few years, they ripped my expensive sheets, and after initially agreed to reimburse for them, then refused to reimburse for them. The owner called and was verbally abusive and combative. I now have to sue for reimbursal. read more

This place is the absolute worst! The owner just verbally assaulted me and came very close to physically assaulting me over a jean hem job gone wrong. They ruined a pair of brand new Mother jeans by not hemming the original hem back onto the jeans as requested, and when they seemed reasonable to work with their mistake, I went in to meet the owner. Turns out the husband is the nice, reasonable person that I spoke to over the phone, but the wife was very rude and way beyond reason. I had this happen once before where my jeans were hemmed wrong (the original hem wasn't kept as requested), but I decided to try them once more since the seamstress assured me she could keep the same or original hem of the jean. The owner (the wife) yelled at me saying that the seamstress said she wasn't asked to keep the original hem and started mocking me when I explained that this had happened before. She continued yelling at me saying she wouldn't reimburse me for my jeans that are now un-returnable. When I defended myself, she got very close to my face where I thought she was going to take a swing. She also refused to let me speak to the other owner (her husband) even though he was there (I saw him when I parked the car). If this is how they treat an over 20 year customer, I'd hate to see how they treat new customers. Terrible Cleaners. Lost my precious formal wear and casually let me know they gave it to another client accidentally. They actually laughed when they told me they called and the person told them he wouldn't give it back. The value of my custom tuxedo shirts is over $400 and they offered me only *up-to* 10x the laundering fee. The owner even tried to haggle with me saying my once-worn shirts were somehow devalued because they were over 1 year old. They were purchased in 2019, custom, and undamaged! What a complete scam. I've used this cleaner for years with what little dry cleaning I do annually as it's convenient on my way to work but I won't ever again. I never would have expected the first time I file a small claims court claim would be against a dry cleaner but I have filed and expect to be reimbursed in full. St. Paul Cleaners is an awful business. Inconsiderate, dirty inside, and generally sketchy. I implore you to not use them. Pay a bit more and use Ablitt's or one of the other more reputable companies. read more

This place is running a scam, especially on older people. Stay away! I recently called to get a quote on what 10 shirts would cost to have pressed, I was told $2.50 to $3 dollars per shirt. I took my shirts down, and the employee sorted them and quoted $27-$30 for the lot. This seemed reasonable. I had my housekeeper go and pick up my shirts for me and come to find out I was charged $61. The next day I went down to ask them why I was double charged, only to be told that the price I was given was "just an estimate." I tried informing them that that isn't how you run estimates, and anytime you go above an estimate you're supposed to alert the client to let them know if they agree, ESPECIALLY if it's going to be double! Double the estimate price isn't an estimate, its a bloody shot in the dark. I think what made this experience worse was just how incredibly rude and obnoxious the manager with all the heavy make up at the counter was, as if I was somehow in the wrong for questioning their gross business practice. Doing a little research online, I found out that this is actually a very standard gimmick that a lot of cleaners use. They give you one quote, then charge you more when you go to pick up saying the shirts are "more difficult than they thought." The way to get past this is when you take your clothes, make sure whomever is sorting really gives you a detailed quote on what it's going to cost, and have them write it down-and let them know you will not pay anything above that. read more

DO NOT Use this dry cleaner they completely ruined my daughter's first communion dress completely melted the lace off and stained with chemicals and blamed it on the manufacturer. On top of that they are horrible people to deal with!! Totally traumatized by this place! I will be taking them to small claims court. read more

FAIR WARNING: I do not pretend to any objectivity whatever in this review (something on which I do pride myself in generally, along with consummate taste, haha) as this cleaners was the BANE of my existence for years. Thus, this falls more into the category of a retrospective rant about the most incompetent, irritating fluff and fold service in a TOWN full of fluff and fold that sucks. I have nothing good to say about ZipKleen, with whose owner (ten years ago, Glen) I had a real falling out on the phone. For various reasons, my depression prohibited my doing my own laundry. Now, it's not as if I have a long history with laundry and I fully acknowledge (and revel in) the JAP-y (or is it Jappy) side of myself. As I often write, I'm only logistically Jappy. Psychologically, my family system prevented anything like true Jap-dom because my father was the center of the universe (or the universe itself), which in and of itself prevents a full-on JAP situation. But my parents had full-time help/nanny situation and I never did my own laundry till college at which point the basement in Bingham was so hot and stuffy and irritating, I promptly found a fluff and fold (Yale's service was overpriced and not good at the time) in New Haven. My father, 88, has never done a load of laundry in his life. First it was his mother, then the military, then his mother, then his wife, then his mother/aunt, then housekeepers. That said, I do know how to do laundry and my first year in Santa Barbara (or maybe 2) I did it in my apartment complex. That became impossible as I hated the neighborhood and going out of the apartment and roaming around the complex depressed me, on top of which there was a Section 8 guy whose elevator didn't quite reach the top floor and who never changed his yellow polo shirt and Bermuda shorts and reeked of smoke. He depressed me as well so I didn't do laundry. He didn't work and roamed around the complex and really did freak me out (plus sometimes he detailed tenant vehicles in the carports so he was ubiquitous). So in 2003, my dad, seeing the distress my laundry situation was creating in my life agreed to be my general on the laundry front. (I used to have a maid in twice a month and she did it but then I passed my PhD Orals and didn't have to leave the house so I didn't until it was time to swim and Silvia's Cleaning Service, a big outfit in town whose employees drive red compact cars with tons of advertising in white letters, didn't do night appointments.) What to say? First of all , they were not reliable with pickup and delivery. Dad orchestrated the whole thing and it was supposed to be a Tuesday/Friday schedule (I used a ton of towels as Death Gardens, my old apartment, was very hot with afternoon sun beating down on the walls of glass, including a sliding door in the living room, and the noise stressed me out on this official truck route so taking long baths and showers was a source of comfort and serenity for me). Next problem? BOUNCE. I hate Bounce. I mean I hate it to the point that my skin would crawl and I'd start to cry from the fabric softener which they used like it was going out of style. And they wouldn't roll back the detergent to a tolerable level. At the time I didn't know about all the Planet and green products or Tide Free so I couldn't even buy some and have them pick it up and use it The final problem? INCINERATOR clothes. They insisted upon putting my clothes in this awful cellophane which made it seem like the clothes had been washed in an incinerator. Don't get me started on the price of the dry cleaning which like the rest of overpriced SB is outrageous. Now I go to Ecocleaners which I adore, half the price of St. Paul's, Ablitt's (snooty, pretentious, celebrity dry cleaners but without the panache of Brown's in Santa Monica, on Montana Avenue, crazy expensive but if you have a problem on a designer or couture dress, this is the place to go). Even still, on the Upper East Side, I save money on cleaning even as compared to Ecocleaners. Slow, rude, stupid, incompetent. HOW this cleaners manages to stay in business, much less win AWARDS in the "Best of SB" which the Independent (our Village Voice or LA Weekly) publishes every year is beyond me. GRRRR read more

They charged me $350 just to steam two dresses, and they don't tell you the price until you go pick them up, they are the worst!

-10! They ruined the dress my mother was to be buried in. I dropped off the dress at La Cumbre Plaza but had to deal with a person at the Bath St. location. I explained the intent of the dress. He was terse, rude and said he required the sales receipt as long as it was less than a year old. Mom had bought this special dress for my daughter's wedding last July (2013). We did not keep the receipt. I printed off similar dresses by the same "designer" from Macy's. He would not accept it and told me he could only give me $40.00. My mother is in Hospice, nearing the end. Now the dress that she picked, full of happy memories, will not the one she will be dressed. Do not take anything precious or fragile to this cleaners. This dry cleaner does a pretty nice job, but what I don't like is that they have a sign out front that says you get a discount with seven pieces or more of 25 percent. I brought in 10 pieces but no discount. It doesn't say anything about it but they tell me now that it only applies to garments. I brought in two scarves, four pillowcases and a few shirts, so they would not give me the discount. This is bait and switch. Not cool. This made a difference of $17.50. I'm going elsewhere. read more

Love this cleaners. I was in a hurry and went to 1hr and for 2 pieces they quoted me $40. so i asked ... "what if i wait a couple days?" same $40. So i drove the, what, 1/4 mile from 1hr upper state to St pauls upper state. 1/2 the price. the clothes came back NIIIIIICE and no pain to the pocket book. The guy and his wife are really professional. You cant ask for more. read more

I am not the most frequent customer, but have been several times. Every time I have gone there has been some type of issue, from labels ripped or garments stretched. I haven't made too much of a big deal of it before, frankly you get what you pay for, and this being the least expensive dry cleaner in town mistakes are to be expected. But this most recent time assured that I would never go back. I dropped off roughly 15 pieces of clothing, including 10 ties. After about a week I went back to pick up my things, paid a little over $50. Once I got my items home I realized that none of my ties had been cleaned and that two of my shirts had been stained, one with a bright blue dot on the left chest area. I went back the next day, and asked for a refund. I don't know the man working the front desks name, but he's an Asian man with a large forehead who is always there so if you go in I'm sure you will meet him. He refused to give me a refund, after arguing back and forth for 15 min we agreed he would call from the drop off location at la cumbre down to the bath location and arrange for my refund there. I arrived at the bath location 20 min after this. The woman there, janeth, also refused to give me a refund. It wasn't until another customer came in and I made it obvious that I had been ripped off that she agreed to talk to the manager. She returned from the back and said they would refund half my money and clean the items. I agreed to this. Left my two shirts and ten ties. Came to pick up my items 48hrs later as I inspected my items Janeth called my attention to the shirt that had had the bright blue dot, which I had specifically pointed out to her before dropping off my clothes, this time it had a dirty yellow stain on the right chest. Janeth turned to me and with a straight face said "maybe you got mustard on it". So just to recap this business refused to give me back my original amount and then when they obviously ruined one of my items left in their care, immediately blame it on me even though I hadnt had the shirt in my possession. At this point I stared blankly took my partial refund which for some reason also didn't included the original sales tax and left. And yes I will pay more and go somewhere else. The owner refuses to pay for the shirt now, stating that is too expensive and if he knew he would had charge me more for laundering, as he charges more to people from Montecito and/or of higher affluence. The Owner's behavior is inappropriate and this type of business are a shame for Santa Barbara! Do not support this business! read more

For cleaning, this place gets 3 or 4 stars. For service, I'd give only ONE star! They're pretty slow in getting clothes done. Honestly, it wouldn't be that bad if clothes were actually ready when they say they will be ready. But that's rarely the case. "Ready by Tuesday at 5:00 p.m.," they tell me. I show up after work on my way home. "It's not ready, come back later." Come back later?!?!? I am not about to make a special trip because you can't get it together to do what you said you were going to do. And then they act like it's MY fault! The young woman who works behind the counter is borderline rude and not at all helpful. Certainly not apologetic for not getting things done. If this had only happened once or even twice, I'd chalk it up to some fluky thing. But this happens every time I bring stuff in. So I've learned my lesson and won't be back. Other places may not be conveniently located on my drive, but the convenience isn't worth the aggravation and rude treatment. read more

I have used St Paul's Cleaners for the last 2 years to the tune of probably over $200 total, for dress shirt laundering and dry cleaning. I now know that if you have a problem with their service they will blame you and will not make it right! I had never previously had any issues, but after last visit I was surprised to find tears on 4 of my shirts at the same spot on each shirt's sleeve ! I brought back 4 shirts to see if there was anything they could do to make it right. Here's what happened. * The woman at the counter checked in their computer and confirmed that these shirts matched the description of the last batch I had brought in. * She got the owner, named Justin. * He said it was not possible that this happened there. They have processed thousands of shirts and nothing like this has ever happened. * I told him that 3 of 4 are custom shirts I had made overseas in 2007. I've been very careful with them. They fit perfectly and are not replaceable. * He told me that the tear marks are from my elbow. * I told him that I've had these shirts for six years, and a bunch of other shirts made at the same time, and I've never had a tear. Is it really possible that my elbow tore four shirts at the same time? * He told me that it was time for me to buy new shirts. Shirts are not expected to last six years. * I tell him I'll post something on the internet. * He uses his cellphone to photograph some wear on one of the shirts' sleeves so that he can prove that these six year old shirts are ready to be thrown away. I'm pretty shocked that the company I was trusting to take care of my valued shirts and keep them nice for as long as possible would damage them and then tell me that shirts aren't worth keeping that long! Unbelievable. This is the opposite of customer service. read more
