They showed up an hour late. One guy was horribly rude. Took about 3 hours for 3 guys to load the truck. Didn't have clothes boxes and I requested 2. Didn't have a large box on rollers to wrap lamps and vases and stuff in blankets. Lied to me and lost my grandma's 100 year old china and two other valuables. Made me sign before they unloaded the truck which I was supposed to sign after they had me check the truck to make sure they unloaded everything. It took 6 hours to move me. 1 bedroom and office and normal living room. The worst. read more

The stuff of nightmares. Without question, the worst customer experience of my life. They "accidentally" overcharged my credit card, beat the hell out of my brand new house, peed all over the bathroom floor, and went way over the allotted time we agreed upon by sitting around / playing on the phone every time I wasn't watching (costing me more money). After bringing all of this to the attention of the operations manager, Shawn, I was told that I would be taken care of. I filled out a claim form with them, and showed them where I was incorrectly billed. All I wanted was the overcharged "mistake" fixed, and $300 in damages for drywall, paint, and doors. Shawn eventually conceded the billing error, and admitted that if anything my estimate was low, considering the damages. Communication was always spotty, and I heard lots of excuses for that. Apparently Shawn was having personal problems with a sick relative, and was spending lots of time out of town. When we did speak, I heard lots of excuses and promises. Eventually I was told that the refund was coming "this week," but never saw a dime. After that Shawn completely stopped replying to my texts and emails. I eventually filed a complaint with my credit card company and was able to recover the overcharge. Now that I have straightened that out, I will be filing a claim in conciliation court for the damages to my home. A $300 claim, that they agreed to pay, and now I'm being ignored as if I'm asking for millions. Unreal. This company will make big promises, then big excuses, and then completely ghost you. Fortunately for me, I saved every text and email communication, took tons of pics, and documented every date. See you in court, fellas! read more

I would not recommend this company to anybody. They hire third party movers and their kids. They don't know how to pack a truck. Clearly they don't know how to wrap furniture because the front of our mirror was wrapped in a blanket. They put packing paper around the back where all of the backing of the mirror got ripped off. When we took the blanket off they didn't even take their blanket with them. They left the mirror wrapped and left and there's fresh scratches on my tables. It was an overall terrible moving experience with this company. my moving experience with this company can be summed as 3 untrained and unprofessional dudes showed up at my doorstep, high of marijuana and smoking marijuana at my doorstep, who left half of the stuff unmoved, broke a door and a stair rail inside the house and just left without any follow up from their manager Here's what happened, We had to divide our moving process into two parts, the first part was before we sell our house and the second part was right afterwards!! For the first part, we were charged double what we were quoted for! Tony and Mitch ignored my calls and messages for over a week, I had to contact my bank to dispute the transaction and get the overcharged amount back! For the second part, we were originally scheduled for Monday 7/29 in the morning, then our move was rescheduled for the same day, but in the evening. The crew never made it Monday evening and we got rescheduled for Wednesday 7/31 in the evening! They never showed up either and we were rescheduled for Thursday 8/1 in the morning where the move finally happened! The first thing I noticed was one of the movers smoking marijuana at my doorstep! He literally had the blunt in his hand at my doorstep! That person happens to be the leader of the moving team! They also showed up with no shoe bags and refused to stop stepping on my carpet with their shoes on, despite repeatedly asking them! The moving crew had no plan whatsoever and ended up leaving my house with only half the stuff . I will have to reach out to another moving Company to get the rest of my stuff moved!! They showed up with virtually no equipment whatsoever, and subsequently failed to put both of my living room section inside the house! Instead they broke it into three pieces where they put two pieces inside and one piece was left outside in the garage! I don't have enough people or tools to carry it inside myself! They broke a piece of wood rails in my inside stairs as well as my bathroom door ( pictures attached) They gave zero apology and zero means for follow ups I have been trying to reach out to them since the move ( over 2 weeks now). I get no response other than " I am currently on a meeting, Shawn will contact you soon" I honestly don't know what to do. I feel scammed!! read more

Beware!I paid their amount upfront. My move was 2 months ago. They called the night before and wanted to start an hour early. After many phone calls to my help, they showed up 3 hours late. While waiting, we moved some stuff ourselves, which concluded in a $227.50 refund... a refund I've called numerous times(9 out of 10 time it went to voicemail) and have never received a penny back! If a negative rating can be given it should. DO NOT USE this COMPANY. Tony Lupton the sales rep is quite charming and will give you quite the sales pitch, he will explain he's been in the business in for 30 years, they will have a crew who is knowledgeable on loading a truck to ensure your items are protected and will be delivered safely. They will have quilted blankets, equipment you would expect for a mover to have to lift heavy items, wrap TVs, furniture to avoid damage. Wardrobes for your closet, so no need to pack them. The movers will bring in the wardrobe, transfer your hanging clothes. We discussed our need for the movers to arrive early in the morning so we could clean and have our home we sold ready for the new buyers walk through and an overnight hold until we closed on our new home the next day. He assured us our items would be hauled to their secure facility. Well, none of what was promised occurred. At 9am, our movers did not arrive. I called to inquire where they were. Tony, rudely said I cant tell you, then transferred me to someone who was doing a job up in Grand Marais. That person told me the foreman for our job had just learned his niece was killed in a drive by shooting in Chicago IL. So was running behind. I was empathetic to such a story until about 2pm when I called and asked what was being done to get our move completed. That person said, the foreman was now on another job but should be to our place by 3pm. We had to reschedule our buyers walk through as our items had not been moved. About 3:30 I was contacted by a gentleman saying he would be to our place soon. He arrived and I showed him we had moved most of our belongings into garage to make it easier. I advised we only needed them to move 3 dressers from the upstairs, a sofa, loveseat, recliner and table from the main floor and our clothes were hanging in the closet waiting for the "wardrobes". He said, we dont have a big enough truck as a truck with two other gentlemen showed up. The truck was a 16 foot truck, hardly big enough to move a bedroom, let alone a 4 bedroom home. The truck did not have a ramp, they did not have any equipment. The men who showed up said they had only just learned of the job. When I told the foreman I was sorry for his loss, he looked totally dumbfounded as to what I was speaking about. I will give props to the men who showed up, while they were not prepared, were not given the correct size truck and had no equipment they could see our panic and tried to reassure us they would get it done. One of the men had never moved a home before, he was in his PJs, I would say nice kid, but he was not a "professional with experience". My husband and the foreman drove to a Truck rental company near by and rented a 26 foot truck while I remained at the house assisting the other two men with loading the 16 foot truck. The two men brought down our dressers but as there was no ramp, pushed the dressers onto the truck and pushed them to the back. One dresser was tipped onto its top and pushed. The entire top of the dresser is scraped. The bedframe and night stands received damage in transit as they did not have anything to wrap them with. They tried to use other soft items but it was insufficient. The foreman and my husband returned with the 26 foot truck and my husband and I assisted with handing them boxes etc to put into the truck. I did not expect I would need to direct the mover in his PJs but he just didnt know what to do. When we asked the foreman where he was taking the truck, he said, not sure, maybe I'll just park it in front of my house in St. Paul. Not the secure location we were expecting. The men did bring our items the next day and again had no equipment as the trucks given to them did not have any. They did their best to get our items into the house without issue. One of the movers did not speak English, and another mover was clearly frustrated that he could not communicate with him. The non English speaking mover was trying to work quickly but was hitting walls. He did cause some damage but I chalked it up to you clearly get what you pay for. While Tony will quote you an amazing price it is NOT worth it. You will end up with anxiety, damaged property and a lack of accountability from Tony Lupton who is the face/sales person selling you a line of non-truths. He will try to pass you off onto someone named Reggie whose phone doesn't pick up, in fact drops. When I called Tony to explain our experience, he overtalked me, told me i didn't need to explain it to him but should talk to Reggie. I explained he is the voice/face and he should be aware. I wrote them, asked why I was charged for supplies and to make a claim for the furniture damage. Not surprised they did not respond. I called them and Tony hung up on me. DO NOT USE this company!!!! I can barely give them a one star rating. I have nothing positive to say. The quote they gave me was way off and the final charge was one third again as much. They were supposed to move my piano but didn't inform the moving team of that so they didn't bring equipment, couldn't move the piano inside. Thus I asked them to put it in my garage until they could move it inside. The mover dropped my piano and damaged it, split one of the legs. The movers were all very young and not seemingly very aware of proper moving techniques. They goofed around and wasted lots of time and didn't put things where they belonged. They asked me to sign off before the move not after the work was done and I have since learned that this is not standard procedure and was a big mistake. Big mistake to hire Modern Movers. read more

Modern Moving damaged an antique mahogany table in my move on April 25. As they were only offering .60/lb, I opted to have them repair the table. After 7 months and numerous calls I finally got the table back. It was totally damaged. It had been sanded through in places, a leg had been broken and attempted to be repaired, and the whole table was finished in a sticky black finish. The drawers were stuck shut. This was an antique passed down from my mother and had high sentimental value as well as formerly being a high quality piece of furniture. I've only use moving services a few times, but this was by far the worst experience. The crew showed up somewhere close to 10am, which was over an hour later than I had expected. Things were fine when the arrived, and I gave a quick walkthrough of the apartment we were moving out of. All of the crew agreed it would be an easy move since all the boxes were in the garage and furniture was mostly on the main floor already. Things started off quickly, but within 30 minutes one of the crew members started to slow down and check his phone constantly. I started to load some boxes (which I had already planned to do), but this employee stopped loading altogether and actually left the dolly for me to use while he grabbed 1 small item after another. It was around this time I called a customer service rep to let them know what was going on. She said she would touch base with the crew, and although they definitely sped up, the quality of service dropped to 0. After loading all the boxes, I walked inside to find that almost none of our furniture was wrapped, and there was no real plan to get it outside. The crew picked up my kitchen table and wedged it through a small hallway, scuffing both the table, and the walls in my apartment. Instead of taking a step back to think, they forced the table through. There were other loud crashes in the apartment and when I went back to clean, I found multiple scuffs, scratches, and damaged items that were supposed to remain in the apartment. I also had to request that they wrap other furniture pieces, such as a leather sofa and desk. I realized afterwards that they only placed a blanket over the top, which slid off during the drive to the new place. Another major concern was that the person loading the truck didn't actually have experience in doing so. When they opened the truck at the new house, most of the boxes had tipped during the drive over, and many of the boxes/bins were crushed from the weight of things on top of them. Although we packed boxes carefully, there was still damage to many of the fragile items. When we arrived, we noticed 2 of the crew members smoking/vaping in and near the garage. At this point, I was so frustrated with the move that I just wanted them gone. I requested that they bring only large furniture pieces inside, and to leave everything else in the garage. We unloaded in about 30 minutes and they left shortly after This is when I started to find all of the damage to our furniture pieces. Many of our items have deep scratches, paint damage, tears, or items that simply shattered on the drive over (We had a vintage lamp with a glass shade that they just place on the truck without securing or wrapping) I guess my biggest takeaways are this: 1. If you book through this company, be prepared to babysit your movers. 2. If you care about your stuff, make sure to wrap it yourself as they will do the bare minimum to protect things. (I used a different moving service out of state a few months ago and did not have this issue) 3. Use a different moving service. The reviews online had me hopeful but I cannot believe this is a one-off situation. For how many issues I had, it doesn't seem like they cared to resolve the issues at all. Would have gotten better service and a cheaper price by renting a U-haul and just hiring movers independently. read more

Per my previous post, this company damaged our property. The total of the damages was over $1000.00 and they told us they pay per pound? The mirror alone weighed over 100 lbs and they are only willing to pay us 168$ in damages. AND on top of that, trying to get that is proving to be a job in it of itself. If you're looking for a moving company whose employees work with honesty, integrity, and follow through...keep on moving. Our elderly parents got a quote from Modern Movers for a downsizing move across town. The quote they received was $18,000 which seemed liked highway robbery. It absolutely felt like they were taking advantage elderly, vulnerable adults. After turning down their quote, we arranged to purchase some moving boxes and supplies from them with the agreement that whatever we did not use we could return for a full refund. Chris Turner, Director, said he would personally deliver the boxes to my parent's home. However, he failed to let us know that he would charge a $100 delivery fee for his trip from New Brighton to south Minneapolis. We returned a great majority of the unused boxes and materials a few weeks later. It has been almost 4 months since the initial return and expected refund for those boxes. My mother contacted Chris and he said he would get that refund processed...but he lied. I contacted Chris a few months later and he promised he would be in touch with their CFO and call me back the next day to get that refund processed. Surprisingly, he stated he would also refund the $100 delivery fee they were never told about. He said he made them aware of that...but reality is, they never talked to him about the boxes, I arranged all of that. So that was another lie. After six (6) or more attempts to get in touch with Chris via phone and texting, there still has been no follow through on the refund nor any further communication. It's likely that he blocked all of our phone numbers, such a cowardly manner. They claim they will provide you with a top-notch experience however, based on ours, they are more slick talkers than anything else. We are very disappointed and frustrated to have gotten taken and given the forever run around with no resolve. Could not have been worse. They caused $5000 in damages and will only pay $129 because my 88 year old mother did not read the fine print. They broke two expensive pole lamps, dented the top of a dining room table several times, badly scratched a credenza, they did not pack up a drawer. Total disaster of a move. The underestimated the entire move- showed up with 3 guys and one truck for a six bedroom move. Their estimator walked through our house- so he knew what was within the house. What should have been a single day move turned into a two extremely long days - and I had to help along with four friends to get the job done. The worst of it was that they tracked in mud- the owner of company said he would send someone over to clean it up ( Zero Rez) . After about 10 emails , and numerous calls- no one follows thru.... We used Modern moving recently to move from an apartment to a townhome in a twin cities suburb. Setting up the move and the move itself was very easy and stress less. The moving crew was very efficient, cordial, and professional and met our expectations. We had an incident with one of our antique furniture pieces that resulted in the accidental damage to this priceless furniture piece. When we contacted Modern Moving, they were very apologetic and concerned as we went through the claim process according to their procedures. Thereafter, is where the customer service stopped. The offer of compensation for the damage and restoration was totally unacceptable and insulting. After numerous emails and phone calls, I did reach Reggie who was understanding, but lacked the authority to do the right thing. I had made an offer to settle the claim. She referred me to the owner. He has yet to respond. At this point I am out over $700 for repairs and a priceless antique no longer has antique value following this move. For moving I give this company five stars. For customer service I think they failed miserably. $47.00 offer (which I have yet to receive) was grossly inadequate and frankly a joke. read more
