Love the workers. They were so nice but I got my nails done not even 4 days ago and they are all already lifting and one of my nails has already popped off. For the amount of money I paid to get them done I wish they would've lasted longer than 4 days. I'm extremely disappointed in the quality of my nails. I don't plan on returning.

I went here today for gel nails. The guy who did the prep upgraded my service and put some hand moisturizing wraps on my hands. That was ok. The woman who actually painted my nails did a very quick job. I had to call her attention to a problem. She filed it really quick and said You're done. I left a very good tip (not sure why) and my nails are already starting to peel from the cuticle. I won't be going back.

I've had acrylic nails for months and have tried out different salons in Ames. This one gave me my worst experience. The first time I went, I had scheduled an appointment and ended up waiting for 30 minutes before they started working on my nails. They were very nice but seemed desperate to keep me as a customer. A couple days later I broke a nail and went back and brought along my friend. They fixed mine for free, which was appreciated, but my friend asked for dip nail, received acrylic, the guy got mad that he had to shave it all off, and then charged her extra for the cost of labor for his own mistake. AND I just broke another nail. Never broke a nail in all of my months with acrylics. I don't think they apply enough acrylic to support the nail. If I were you, I'd go somewhere else to get your nails done.

I went to Modern Nails (chair #7) because my regular place was busy. When I left, my cuticles were bleeding. It was a horrible manicure. It was a dip on regular nails. It didn't last a week. I will not be returning. read more

Do NOT get a pedicure here. My toes look like a 5 year old painted them, I wish I was exaggerating. She cut my skin several times with the drill, and they turned out awful. Not even painted in the lines... for $60 I am VERY unhappy. read more

Very nicely decorated in the inside with great chairs. The workers are kind. However, they always try to upsell people on prices. For example, offering services even if you didn't ask for them like eyebrow waxing. Their prices on their website are not accurate. They're around $10-20 more at the salon. The last time my mother and I have gone in they've forgotten about her nails even though we made an appointment. The past few times I've gone my nails usually break off within a week and are bumpy. They have a nice selection of colors though. Do not let them upsell you! Some of the workers will ask 3-4 times!! read more

This is my favorite nail salon! I've been going here for 2 years and they've always done an amazing job. The sweetest people work here and do the best they can. Not a great experience at all. The manicures are over priced. My daughters and I asked for regular manicure and they tried to up sell us three time. "No thank you, just a regular manicure please". They told me is was 20 for each of us but we ended up with a $76.00 bill versus 60.00. Wasn't going to argue, we just wanted to get out of there. The manicures lasted 2 days. Save your money and find another place. read more

i called ahead to ask their availability and was told they could fit me in for a pedicure. once i came in they had me wait in the sitting area for a bit and then brought me to a massage chair. i then had to wait over an hour and thirty minutes before they finally started my pedicure. they came over multiple times to thank me for waiting and put new hot water in the foot bath since the water went cold. once they did my pedicure, it was rushed and painful, only lasting about 25 minutes. she ripped my cuticles (she held onto my cuticle with the cuticle trimmer and tugged to make the skin rip on multiple nails) and made me bleed. when doing the hot stone massage, she was so rushed and inattentive she kept hitting my ankle bones with the stones and it was very uncomfortable. other customers in the salon also appeared to have extended waits for services, even those with scheduled appointments. another girl who came in with an appointment for a mani-pedi got her pedicure started on time, but then had been waiting for her manicure to start for over 30 minutes by the time i left the salon. overall not relaxing, and unnecessarily painful. they do have an excellent polish color selection though. read more

I usually have pretty good experiences but that is when I come in on week days. DO NOT come in on weekends. I scheduled an appointment for 12:45 and it's been 45 minutes and I'm still waiting to get started. They do great work but they do not go by appointments at alllllllll. read more

They looked amazing when I left but the stick on acrylics that they provide are super fake and not worth over 50 dollars which I paid. worst and most painful pedicure i've ever had. my options were boiling hot or freezing cold for water. i wasn't given an option between gel or regular polish.the guy cut every toe open and used a chemical that burnt my nails to get my polish off of my toes to start. he then proceeded to constantly dig his own nails and the tools into the cuts he had made and then went to a different customer leaving 1 nail unpainted for another employee to paint. he was coughing throughout the entire pedicure and it was incredibly unprofessional. read more

I went once and it was okay so I decided to go back a second time. I waited over an hour after my appointment time to even be seated. I got dip nails that were rushed through, are badly shaped, and not not even 2 days after I got them done they are completely falling apart. Don't waste your money here for an overpriced bad service. read more

Me and my mom went together to get her birthday nails done, i am a nail tech, i usually don't get my nails done due to my experience on doing my self. We started out good until my mom waited 30 minutes to get her nails done! ( we made an appointment) my mom watched while she worked on other people that were there after we got there. My nails are horrible! She did not know what she was doing i had to keep telling her how to do her job! She didn't care and said they were okay, she continued to do my nails as i made faces because i was irritated with the service and the job! She kept saying that if anything happens come back and fix, as a nail tech you should never expect your work not to last! You never offer room for error you do the job right the first time so they don't have to come back for breaks or lifts! -me and my boyfriend made an appointment for 3:00 and arrived at 2:55 in order to make sure we were there on time. they ended up being busy from walk ins and did not have chairs ready for us (the people with an appointment). 2 other women and their 3 kids came in with no appointments, and 5 minutes after we came in asking for mani pedis. the 2 women were seated TOGETHER and before me and my boyfriend who like i said previously, had an appointment. after they seated the 2 women they sat me down and had my bf sit across from me because "they didn't have another chair ready next to me" so i got to wait for over half an hour with my feet in cold water for my boyfriend to be seated. i then had to wait for them to finish the walk ins (even though my appt was at 3) and didn't get to have my nails done until 6. 3 hours of waiting for the WALK INS is bs and unfair to me and my time and i was not offered any compensation. i have been to this place 3 times and will not be returning due to this situation. read more

I was desperate for a cut and a style, as I was going to Chicago for the weekend with my friends and didn't want to look like a cat who had just been dropped in a bathtub. Without an appointment, I wandered into the Salon, pleaded my case, and they got me in right at that moment! Kari cut my hair that day and I can say that since then, no one has touched the hairs on my head. I only briefly explained to her what I wanted and to my delight, she made it happen. The staff is always nice and in high spirits. They all seem to get along with each other. One thing you will notice when going to the Salon is that the staff all seem to know their clients very well. They are very personable and always focused on their client. The products they use are top of the line and really great. They always make my hair feel so strong and healthy. They also have a very nice selection of cosmetics and will help you pick out shades and products. While I don't have any children, I've seen several kids come in for a cut, and would recommend the Salon to someone with kids. I've mostly seen Josh doing kids cuts and he is so good with them. He makes them feel comfortable and makes jokes with them. I've even heard him tell children that the products he is putting in their hair (mostly detangling spray after washing) is magic. While it's definitely not the place to go if you don't want to drop a pretty penny, I always recommend the Salon to people and will continue to come back for every haircut.

First, she left me sitting with bleach in my hair for 40 minutes while she LEFT to go eat her dinner. She came back, took my to the sink to shampoo/rinse and put a toner in my hair. She left me there for another 55 minutes (super uncomfortable sitting with your head in a sink for 55 minutes lol) while she left to GO TO THE CAFE ACROSS THE STREET. What? She went to go buy cheesecake with her coworkers. She came back, ate her cheesecake, then came back to me. She washed my hair, blow dried it, and it was awful. My hair was grey and purple. Then she trimmed it, and screwed up the trimming around my face so much I ended up looking like I had a mullet. A grey and purple mullet. Yes. Anywho, I was polite about it but said I was unhappy and surprised by the result. She offered to try and fix it the next day and I declined and just asked to not be charged. They declined my request, and charged me almost twice the amount it said I'd be charged on their website ($113 on their website, and they charged $197). Instantly she started trimming to short, I should have stopped her and I regret I never did. Left with a choppy haircut and very short and long pieces and had so much weight on the top of it. Kaylie was kind enough to see me later that day a fix the damage however I am still left with a hairstyle that is so short compared to what I want originally and still with spots shorter due to the first haircut. I'm devastated to have paid for this haircut that has killed my self esteem..I am grateful for the team that stepped up and tried to fix it. Well the story continues after booking multiple appointments with Kaylie, they recently adjusted their timing on their appointments from One hour to 45 minutes. So I kindly reached out on Instagram, asking about this and mentioning how I felt my hair was taking a little over an hour, and if there would be enough time. Their response was to let me know that my communication with them has not been good, so they declined to see me there anymore. When asking about my communication, and for more clarification based on confusion as I had only been making appointments with no other communication since the hiccup of this haircut (pictured). This was made out of the blue after encouraging me to continue to see other stylist at their salon. I would not recommend the salon as it seems they are hoping just to get in as many clients as possible.

Check the timeline of events that happened: Saturday at 4.30 I went to Nikki's Nails -needed to remove my gel nails (real not acrylic) -wanted to get a new gel manicure set. Got done at 6 pm or so. Came home around 6.15 pm washed my hands. You can't imagine the horror on my face when I looked at my hands. [check photos now] Nikki's nails are closed on Sunday. I came to them right after work on Monday with a band-aid on my thumb and the rest of the fingers started to bubble. How I was treated: Upon entry, I calmly explained the situation and asked for my 50$ back and I wanted my nails not fixed, but just off. I didn't want anything to do with this bubbling, peeling manicure. My nails were done by three different people, one person was taking off, one person was putting the base, and one person was painting. So of course, when everyone does everything nobody cares. So the girl that I saw on Monday, was the one who actually put the color on. She yelled, was rude, told me they won't return the money and they cannot fix anything for me right now and I needed to wait 2,5 hours for someone to get free. When I asked for the manager (calmly) she said she was out of town (convenient), but the cherry on top was that after she continued yelling at me and peeling WITH HER hands my nail. Despite all of this, she said I was being difficult.... Now, I have never written a bad review for any place, because I really try to get all my problems resolved in a quiet and professional way, but this won't do. I strongly recommend not going to Nikki's nails. This place is trash. Literal trash. It's not worth even checking.
