Terrible experience! The man who did my nails (Kevin) was SO aggressive and so rude. He left twice during my service to smoke a cigarette. He came back wreaking of the smell and it was beyond unprofessional. He was clearly not experienced and unskilled. He kept telling me to relax and was moving my arm around like even touching my forearm and elbow, it was so weird. This experience was terrible and I will never be going back. Scheduled pedicures with my mom days ago. Only two staff members so service was very rushed to accommodate walk-ins. My tech dug around in the foot bath sink basin with one of the nail tools she then tried to use on my toes. The gentleman working on my mom's feet used gel polish without her permission, and when I asked why her toes were being cured, he glared at me and told me he "knows what he's doing". I was in tears. I have been growing my natural nails out for years and it's been hard as they tend to be brittle. I go in and ask for dip french manicure, they say they can't do a dip french so I ask for dip with french painted on. They said they can do it. I tell the guy they are my natural nails except one, as it had broken and I had a tip placed on the last time I got them done (a different salon). He immediately looks at my nails and cuts them with clippers, almost to the skin. He then looks at me and says "oh, these are your real nails" and I reply, "yes I just told you that." He then asked if I wanted tips put on and I said no because they break and damage the real nail. I say I guess I'll have short nails for a while- I was already pretty upset at this point. He proceeds to start the dip and I thought it was just a base coat, but he uses the grittiest, sandiest, roughest white- after I asked for a natural pink dip as french manicures have a soft pink underneath. He then proceeds to paint the clearest pink on top, not covering any of the texture or discoloration from the grainy white. He shaped them and something was off, but I couldn't point it out as I'm not a nail tech (turns out they were way too wide, almost like a duck shape). I ask for a darker pink and he gives me one coat, still not covering any texture or color from the white. The whole time, he's signing loudly and keeps jerking my hands to get them at the right angle, I could sense he was annoyed with me. He then starts to paint on the french, asked me how it looked. It was just a straight line of white. I tell him I prefer more of a curved french like in the inspo pic, he does it 2 more times, all of the attempts the same straight line, and eventually I'm to the point where I say it's fine, just finish them. So i was left with thick, grainy, chunky, ugly, horrific french. I am so upset. I tried my best to be kind while speaking up for myself, which is hard to do, and he did not help at all. I was already distraught that he cut my nails so short, then a terrible job was done on my nails. I will NEVER come here again if it's the last nail salon on Earth open, I will never recommend this place to even my worst enemy. Terrible service, unkind staff who don't listen. I'm tempted to have the state come in because how can a licensed nail tech be so unprofessional and do such a bad job. read more

HOWEVER, if you're wanting designs DO NOT GO HERE. I asked for hearts on my nails and they honestly weren't very good and kind of sloppy. This was my first time at this place and it was great. They were busy, so if you're looking for a quick job not here without an appointment. However, they were able to get my mom and me in within a half hour. My mom got gel polish and she loves her nails. I got my gel removed, acrylic nails put on and gel put on top. DO NOT GO TO THIS NAIL SALON. If I could leave 0 stars I would..... my friend and I went to this salon (I needed a fill and she needed a full set). As my friend was getting her nails glued on the lady SHOT GLUE INTO HER EYE!!!! Her eye was glued shut.... We had to stop everything so I could take her to the emergency room. Luckily they were able to use an ointment to break up most of the glue. She needed a prescribed ointment to get the rest of the glue off her eye and eyelashes. After our ER trip, we went back to the salon to get our nails finished. They didn't offer any free services or to cover the medical expenses. They seemed very unapologetic and unconcerned for someone who could sue them over an eye injury. Very disappointed this place is even allowed to be open! read more

Way too thick near the cuticle and he didn't remove the extra topcoat around the nail while it was wet so when it dried, my skin was stuck around the cuticles. Very rough edges. What a waste of $53. I'm never going there again. And one of the nail techs is very obnoxious and kept saying "Jesus Christ" very loudly and disrespectfully, trying to be funny. I do not recommend this place. read more

Jai lies about what time you show up so he doesn't have to do a full set at the end of the night (I went at 6, he told my mother the next day I showed up at 7:30. I have messages proving otherwise.) Sophia is very nice for pedicures. It's also very unprofessional to talk about the feds chasing you for drugs. read more

Let's just say I'm very picky with my dip manicures in small towns. I tried a couple of other salons in the area and Beauty Nails does it right! Steven took his time on my nails, ensured they were all the same length (which most places don't do) and that I liked the color I chose when applied on my nail. Decided I would rather get my nails done than eat on my lunch break. This place happened to be right across the street from where I'm working. I called to make sure they take walk-ins, and made sure to ask if they could have me in and out in 45~ minutes. Dude on the phone ASSURED me that was doable, so I went in. There's a lady sitting there playing on her phone, asks what I want, tells me someone will "be right with me," then continues playing on her phone while I spend the next 10 minutes waiting for someone to actually come and help me. Already annoyed, but whatever. A guy finally emerges from the back and greets me. He starts on my nails, taking his sweet ass time. It has now been 9 hours since I walked into that place and I am still wondering how this dude managed to take CHUNKS out of my FINGERS with how slow he was working. NINETY minutes later (yes, 90, not the 45 minute minimum I was promised), I am finally walking out of this place with bloody, inflamed cuticles, and only 45 minutes late getting back to work! read more

I paid $58 for a dip mani because there was an extra $10 charge to remove cuticles. That was fine but where someone would normally gently push back your cuticles, Annie basically started jamming the cuticle tool into my nail bed over and over. Somehow I made it through that pain and thought it would be better after that. Next, she filed my nails, pressing the nail file so hard against my skin that it cut 2 of my fingers. Imagine cutting a branch with a saw...that's how she used the nail file on my fingers. For some reason I let her continue, so she then cut my cuticles, cutting me on 2 more fingers. This was the most I've ever paid for a manicure and I have never left with my hands cut up like this. My nails look ok, but she needs to be much more gentle! That was not normal! read more

Today was the first time I went to Beauty Nails. Customer service was topnotch. Jai was very polite and caring. (I just saw on Yelp that other customers are also saying good things about him as well.) This was one of my best experiences in a nail salon. I'll be definetly going back. The business is new and sparkling clean. Ten manicure and ten pedicure stations. The technicians really listen to what you want and need and give it in spades. I saw gel acrylic nails applied with ombred glitter on fingertips and beautifully shaped and painted toes. The cost was comparable to other salons in the area, but the value was worth it. I have been a client of Beauty Nails since August 2016 per a friend referral. Previously, I was a client of Nikki Nails also located in Ames, but I am beyond happy that I made the switch! Beauty Nails has been installing and filling my acrylic set since I became their client and they have always done a meticulously beautiful job. The attention to detail they give my nails is beyond what I've seen at other salons in town and in 4 months of acrylics, I have only ever had 1 broken acrylic (my fault) which they actually took care of for free for me! I'm writing this review today after months of great experience because I went in around lunch hour this afternoon prepared for pain as I was planning the dreaded removal of my acrylics. The staff at Beauty Nails got me right in during this busy hour and gently removed my acrylics - seriously, there was no pain at all! I've had my acrylics removed at other places in town with near-tears pain, but not at Beauty Nails. Once my acrylics were removed, I requested a gel manicure which turned out beautifully. My nail beds were not seriously damaged from the acrylic removal, they looked *almost* as if I didn't even walk in with acrylics on! Went to this place on a Sunday. From what I could tell, this is one of only two nail places in Ames open on Sunday. It was the day before classes started, so it was packed. I didn't have an appointment-I walked in. They had a lot of people working, so I waited about 10 minutes before I got in a pedicure chair and then probably another 15 minutes before someone got to me. The pedicure was great. I paid for the Deluxe with regular polish. My manicure was for the most part great--I had a nail design done that is really cute on my shellac manicure. My biggest complaint is that I had some polish left on the sides of my nails that is hard to get off. I feel like I've had better shellac manicures, but I've also had worse. This place is kinda pricey, and I'm sure you could find cheaper. ___________ *update in March 2017* I'm not going to this place again. I went in early February for a shellac manicure. The woman who did my nails (one of the younger ones--I don't remember her name, but it wasn't Ava) was INCREDIBLY rough with the buffer. She was rough to the point that I ended up with a blood spot under my nail (the kind of mark you get like when you slam your finger in a door). What made me so mad is that the nail tech tried to play it off like I hurt myself before I sat down--I didn't, and she knew it. Next, the over buffing killed my nail beds. For over a month now, I've had very thin, brittle nails on four of my fingers. I went to another salon out of town who told me to take time off from the shellac and just use nail strengthener for at least a month because of the condition of my nails. I know shellac is hard on your nails, but I've never had this problem until this specific manicure. read more

Jai is my guy there and I always book ahead of time to get him. I recommend everyone to read their reviews. Tina and Kevin are exceptional too. I had a disaster of an experience before finding this comfy clean friendly salon. I would recommend Steven for acrylics. However, Jai always makes sure I am satisfied with what I'm getting, and I don't need or do acrylic nails. Jai does a beautiful professional job and doesn't rush on my french pedi and dip mani. We always enjoy chatting. I like my nails natural and neutral colored. Really like the nail dip because it's beautiful and doesn't budge! If you don't like something speak up at the time! Don't huff out and leave a crappy review. While they accept walk-ins and do their best to accommodate, they are becoming more popular by their reviews and word of mouth and certain individuals get booked up pretty quickly. I recommend highly to make an appointment. The owner Tina aims to please with quality service and professional courteous staff. They also serve free drinks including soda, water or wine. Several price packages to choose from. This is now my home town favorite salon. I am a repeat customer. And no I live in Ames, not CA. When I reviewed this it said I'm from CA.
