After moving to WA from CA, I had no idea where to start looking for a solid nail tech. Where I came from, the competition was tight with a nail shop literally on every corner, which meant prices were excellent, customer service was big, and they had to have at least one Superstar at every shop. With there being very limited supply of shops in WA (comparatively), it was a bit of a shock to see such outrageous pricing, horrible customer service, and minimal talent. After a few months I found modern nails and I was very happy with their service but it was a 30-minute drive for me, so I did what I thought was best and tried out a few other salons closer to me, in hopes of finding my Trifecta (talent, price, and customer service). Alas, it went horribly wrong throughout Ferndale and Bellingham, so I went crawling back to see Hannah at Modern Nails. I am kicking myself in the butt for not sticking to a tried and true technician. Hannah Is not only super sweet, but ultra talented. And I have paid much more for much less out here in the area. Moving forward it is a no-brainer, I will keep coming back! I highly recommend this shop, and Hannah specifically for acrylics, I cannot say enough about her meticulousness and eye for detail. Also, they offer these amazing complimentary beverages that are to die for, so don't be shy about asking. It's non-alcoholic, but that doesn't mean they're not fire or craft! Some of these other places I've been to offer a "mimosa" and it's literally Sunny D with flat champagne (yuck), At Modern Nails they are serving up virgin cocktails in styyyyle and fancy coffee beverages. With their talent and customer service, it's just a wonderful experience. read more

They ladies did a great job, but the wait time even if you have an appointment is ridiculous. I had an appointment at 3:30pm But didn't get to be seated until 4:30 and the lady I had an appointment with was with another client... like if you're booked and busy. Say that... I trust one person to do my nails and when I get sent to 4 different random ladies it's not okay for me. I ended up going back to my original nail tech in lynnwood. I went there to get my nails and toes done before being a guest at a wedding. The pedicure was so relaxing and my legs felt so moisturized afterwards. The toes are also nicely painted and shaped. As for the manicure, it was exactly what I wanted. I was more impressed by the fact that my nail beds weren't sore the next day, a thing that I thought was normal. Now I know that means all the other nail places over filed my nail beds. But not this one! Highly recommend this place. Will be going again for sure. read more

No stars! Terrible place. They get business only because they are in a small town. Way overpriced.. every time we come my daughter at least breaks a as she goes into the third or fourth day. One time they cut her fingers very badly. They at least gave us somewhat of a discount. We come back every now and then for nails to get done because we have a trip or something, but now after this latest incident, we will never be coming back here. This salon does do nice manicures and pedicures although the upselling is out of control. There are many salons in Lynden that are much more competitively priced. When I questioned the necessity of quick dry polish and the additional cost he became very aggressive. I will avoid dealing with him in the future. read more

I had a basic pedicure and they were very efficient. It took maybe 40 min. We were glad to find it wasn't busy, but we went midday on a weekday in autumn (!) so maybe that's par for the course. Overall I'm pretty pleased with the job, but my nail tech didn't file the top edges of my big toes after clipping them, so they look a little rough. Also she didn't really file off a rough spot near my cuticle there. So they're not especially concerned with details here. Perhaps next time I should check the progress halfway through to check for smoothness. Happily the polish job is great! No bubbles or smudges, perfectly applied! read more

Honestly the worst pedicure I've ever had... and I feel like I'm fairly gracious with my pedicure expectations and communicative about what I'm looking for. Way too expensive for a really terrible result. I got French tip, and the lines are so uneven and smudged. I honestly could have done a better job at home, but instead paid $35. This place has the best deals for nails at a quality that is better than competitors. I have gone to a few other places and have had consistently good work done with gel shellac nails. This place doesn't grind your nail down to apply the gel shellac so remember that when searching for nail salons! read more

Unfortunately when I was looking for a place to get my nails done I asked for a certain shape and the final piece was nothing what I asked for and when I mentioned it they got upset and started talking foreign language of me because they would look at me and said they had to remove them and they were pulling my nails off hurt so much when I would say it hurt he was rude and was helping 4 other people at the same time I was there for 2 hrs already ,I actually ended up leaving because I felt like my nails were being ripped off, left the place with half my nails done! I came on a Wednesday at 10:30am and I didn't have to wait. Got both a shellac mani and normal pedi with white tips for both. My finger nails were pretty short to begin with but they did a good job with what they had to work with. They opened a new bag of materials for both the mani and pedi (new clippers, cuticle trimmers, etc.) but the foot scrubber for the pedi looked pretty used. During the pedi she kept asking of I wanted and extra design on my big toe after I had already said no multiple times, which was kind of annoying. She rushed through the pedi and they ended up not looking to hot, but the shellac mani was very well done. Prices are average ($35 for the shellac mani and $30 for the pedi). At the very end she asked "can i have the money now?" which was kind of a turn off. Overall satisfied, would consider coming back in the future. read more

I did not like Modern Nails. They weren't accommodating, the dipped nails started coming off by day 4/5 where at other places they last well into week 3. The color options for dip were also incredible to limited and most of the colors they did have where too similar. read more

I had a wonderful experience here! The owners are friendly, very professional, and meticulous. I had a basic pedicure and needed to leave quickly and messed up the polish job putting my shoes on. Michael, the owner, asked me to come back and get it fixed when I had time for no extra charge. I came back the next day and he went above and beyond to fix it and make sure each toenail looked perfect. I also got my eyebrows waxed and they look great and it was very painless. The first time I went to this place, they started the process of removing my shellac (put the nail polish remover and clips on) and continued working on the other 2 people that were with me. About an hour passed and new people were coming in and being served but no one was making progress with my nails. I tried to be patient, but after one person in my party finished their pedicure and then the second finished their manicure, I was pretty frustrated. There was no way they could miss the colorful clips they put on my fingers to wear off the initial shellac I had on - unbelievably, an hour in and they still hadn't actually started my manicure. Then, after an hour and a half I made it clear that I didn't want anything more done and just to have this shellac removed once and for all. Right away they offered to work on me quickly and could get it done in 15 minutes tops - why would I want a sloppy job done when I just waited an hour and a half to be acknowledged in general? And they still charged me $10 for shellac removal, show some customer service for making me wait a considerable amount of time for basically having nothing done. The second time I went in with some friends to give them a second chance. This time I was the last to be served in our party again and they cut me pretty deep during my pedicure. I squirmed from the pain but had to say "ow, owww" before the lady actually stopped. I wasn't expecting it to be as deep as it was until she was about to put the lotion on and it was gushing, so she threw a towel on it so I wouldn't say anything. There were a few more things throughout the visit that were just one nail after another in the coffin - needless to say, they aren't getting a third chance from me. read more

My friend and I went in for pedicures and she was going to get a manicure. They started and finished her before even starting mine so they sent her over to have her toes dry. The lady doing my toes was so rough and dug the tools so far into my toes that they hurt for days after. They cut our nails way too short and on top of it all they never took her to start her nails. Another group got taken back to get their nails done so she decided to just forget about it. Me and my mom went to get pedicures for graduation. It was probably one of the quickest pedicures I've had. They didn't take any of the dead skin off of my feet, they literally just rub lotion into my legs and painted my toes. It was one of the worst experiences I have had getting a pedicure. They were in such a rush they didn't even let the paint dry before putting on my top coat and they drug the paint from the flower off over my toe. They were in a huge rush and I felt like the woman doing my nails totally rushed through them not caring for quality at all. She left a gap between the gel polish and my cuticle on half of my nails, which in my opinion is a sign of a poor manicure. It looks like I got this polish done 2 weeks ago when really it was just 2 days ago. I don't know how the manicurist would think that's appropriate... I do not recommend this place. read more
