I took John Salisbury's class at Modern Yoga on the recommendation of a Scottsdale local who spoke highly of him and mentioned he has been teaching in the area for over 25 years. I was not disappointed. I was a walk-in (fairly priced at $25 and booked through mindbodyonline). It is clear that John is a top-tier yoga instructor. His cues were precise without being overbearing, and his adjustments were spot-on. I got a great workout while still feeling calm and centered--exactly how I suspect yoga should feel when done well. I did not try the showers or check out the retail section, but John and his class get an A+ from me. read more

Drove about 40 minutes to make it to class, only to arrive and find the studio so overcrowded that it was uncomfortable and honestly not worth staying for. If you're going to require reservations, there should be a reasonable cap on attendance so people actually have enough space to practice. Really frustrating experience, especially after making the drive specifically for the class. read more

Loved the morning heated flow I took at Modern Yoga yesterday. Plenty of parking in the lot. Nice lobby when you walk in, the instructor was there to check me in, greet me and tell me where to go. I arrived about 5 minutes before class and was able to find a spot. In this class, the instructor does not stand in the front and demo, but he did clearly state everything, so you just really need to listen. There were only 2 moves I wasn't sure what he meant, and had to look around to find out what others were doing in that case. This class starts out room temperature and then heats up as it goes on, I personally would have wanted it to be heated from the start but that may be a personal opinion. I really liked the flow we did, it was different from anything I've done before, and was basically a really long flow on one side, and then repeat on the other. Class was pretty much full but not annoyingly so where I felt too close to anyone else. read more

Excellent heated yoga studio and really enjoyed the class taught by Adam. Studio is very spacious, with multiple rooms for yoga practice. I came here on a Monday night for a 6pm heated yoga session. Doors were locked to about 15 minutes prior to class beginning. Ample parking available. Check-in was easy and if you're new to this studio, there is a current offer for $30 for 3 classes in 2 weeks. Female locker room has a large changing area, also with bathrooms and showers available. Complimentary towels were available for shower only. There are bolsters and blocks available, if your teacher chooses to use them. Class was solid and you will definitely sweat and work! I really enjoy these types of heated yoga classes with a bit of Vinyasa blended in. I will definitely be back and really had a very nice stretch session in a heated room! read more

It's so educational, I absolutely love the music, and all the instructors are great in their own way. I have seen and felt a difference not only in my body but in my mind and spirit as well. Best yoga, best instructors, best students, best everything! My first choice every time

I recently took a 9:30 class at Modern Yoga. It is a big deal for me to take time from work to attend a morning class! With driving time it takes up 2 hours of my day. However, I am a workout junkie and incorporate 2 sessions of yoga per week. I force myself to squeeze it in for a holistic training schedule. The class was wonderful. I especially enjoyed it because the instructor didn't use the F word or any profanity like some of the instructors do. However, later that day when I was back to work I got a phone call from a man from Modern Yoga. At first, he was nice and asked me how I liked the class, etc. (I was feeling good because I thought it was a courtesy call and I was impressed with this kind of customer service). Then he says "We have you on camera stealing a sweatshirt." He was pretty insistent. After I described myself he must have realized it wasn't me. At the end of the convo he says "Well, no harm done". After the phone call, I began processing what just happened. First of all, he accuses the wrong person claiming to have them on video. This shows me that they have no clue who their members are or what they look like. I keep wondering how they connected my name to the person in the video. Did they just go through the class list accusing everyone? Secondly, if someone did steal a sweatshirt do you think they are going to admit it or what? If they knew who stole the sweatshirt they would call the police. I don't know anyone who would steal a sweatshirt in AZ when it is 100 degrees out. I seriously haven't heard of a stolen sweatshirt since High School PE class and those were usually jokes. My other thought is maybe someone inadvertently took someone's sweatshirt thinking it was theirs. I doubt it though. Again, because it's 100 degrees. I am a workout junkie and have been to hundreds of gyms and studios across the country. I do all kinds of workouts and appreciate a great class. There are so many great studios and gyms in Scottsdale to choose from now. The things that make a difference in a studio besides a great instructor and cleanliness is the level of customer service. I did like Modern, but this whole situation really made me feel icky. I feel like all their positivity comments during class are just phony smoke and mirror yogi bs. That man calling me and accusing me of stealing a stupid sweatshirt made me feel unimportant and disposable which is a complete contrast to the message they try to or pretend to deliver in their classes. I love to spend my hard-earned money on my health and well-being. In the future, I will not be spending it at Modern Yoga. read more

I wish I would've taken some pictures because the photos on here really don't do the studio justice! It's a really decently sized space and the instructor is on a raised platform so it is easy to watch them if you need to. I decided to try out this studio after I had Courtney as an instructor for Vikara Events Wellness Wednesdays. She was one of my favorite instructors during the series and seeing her at her home studio did not disappoint. Challenging, fast-paced, and hot (but not too hot) They also have a lot of classes through the day and offer streaming. My old studio shut down during COVID and I think I found my new favorite! If I could change just one thing it would be to add some mirrors but I could see how that might look weird on video. Definitely recommend! read more

If I were giving a review solely based on Stefani and her work as an instructor it would be FIVE stars. She is one of the most genuine instructors I have ever had the pleasure of working with and she is very in tune with her students and understands their needs. The TWO stars is for the service and standards of the yoga studio. I had purchased the Groupon for a ten class pass back in March. I decided to redeem the pass in June. No one told me that the studio embraces a strict two month expiration date policy on groupons. When I first signed up, I had asked them if everything was good with my classes, if there was a time limit, and I was told "no don't worry about it". I had recently gotten married in the August. My fifth class was August 2nd. On the screen and in my email, it didn't mention that my classes would expire. On the screen it still told me I had five classes remaining. No one said anything and I didn't get an email that it expired. After my wedding on August 10th I was gone for 3 weeks on my honeymoon. Today, August 31st, I had walked into the studio ready to do some yoga and use up the rest of my five classes. As I checked in, the computer stated that I needed to ask the front desk and the front desk male associate told me that my Groupon has expired. I told him, "how is that possible if I had five classes left?" And he stated they had a sixty day policy on it. I didn't know that was a policy let alone based on my initial interaction it wasn't specified to me. I had slept early and woke up early to attend the earliest morning class. Had I known that my classes had expired I wouldn't have put the effort and I would have brought my wallet. He then said he could add on my unused classes and aggregate them to the class packages at their sale price for the Labor Day weekend. I told him that I didn't have my wallet. I felt embarrassed that (a) they didn't let me know about this policy beforehand (b) he wouldn't let me take this class and then I could have purchased it later when I came back and (c) felt that there was an insinuation that I may have been taking advantage and since I purchased through Groupon they wouldn't hear from me again. Whereas in reality, I am not one to take advantage as I only took five classes, and I am not that kind of person. They should change their policy to fit the situation of each individual that comes in. read more

But, and got a push to try this place, and so glad I did. It's the best Yoga experience I have ever had...its warm, NOT HOT by any means, but I am a sweater...and always come out of the place with a nice glaze, and feeling so much better! Modern Yoga isn't my home studio, but it's one of my favorites... and the only reason it's not my go-to studio is because it's a bit further away from my home and work than some others. The main reason for the five stars is the instructors, but the music they play, the amenities in the locker room, and the convenient location + parking are definitely huge perks as well. I've been to a handful of classes at this studio, and each one has been awesome. I find with yoga, you get out what you put in, and what you need on any particular day, and I've always been pleased with how I've felt mentally and physically after class at Modern. I highly recommend taking a class from John, Alex, Anton, Donny, or Desiree. I haven't experienced class from the other teachers yet, but I imagine that you can't go wrong at Modern Yoga. Your first class is free (for new students and AZ residents), so go get your flow on if you haven't already! read more

One of my favorite yoga studios in phoenix. I find all the instructors very knowledgeable at their craft. Not only in regards to yoga but general body alignment. I've pretty much been to most of their classes and they are all very good. You got astanga...some are astanga mixed with flow. Then you have flow, core flow and some classes that remind me a bit of iyengar ( yoga fundamentals is my favorite class) John Salisbury is kind of the yoga whisperer. I enjoy going to his class because despite me doing yoga on and off for 20 yrs and my old injuries and herniated discs I have. When john gives adjustments or tells you how to change your pose or posture to be better. I remember his cues. Not sure why but he's definitely the yoga whisperer. If you're someone new to yoga, or not. Have old injuries you're concerned about I highly recommend modern yoga to get started. Only thing I'd note and advice to people is that during the holidays it gets extremely busy so if your someone who likes a bit more space during your practice. Just remind yourself holidays are quite busy. read more

AWESOME YOGA STUDIO!!! As a yoga studio owner, I am very discerning about other studios, and this one was LEGIT. They have 3 separate studio rooms, and a large lobby with TONS of yoga retail (lots of really cute clothes!!). Randomly, they have a studio parrot in the front lobby, FYI... I liked it but maybe others wouldn't. Bathrooms were huge and they even had showers and lockers. The studio I was in was pretty spacious, although we only had maybe 10 people in that class. As our class let out, I noticed a stream of people heading toward the back (much larger) studio that already had a fair amount of yogis set up. I took advantage of their 2 weeks for $20 option, and I'm excited to go back and try another instructor (or few!). The teacher I had was good and gave lots of hands-on adjustments. I was still very tired after class, even though it was described as a 'beginner flow' class. read more

Wow, my heart is saddened & apologize in advance for this negative review. I have been shamed and humiliated by "Nicole". I "thought" I was a valued customer of Modern Yoga. Her aggressive response & less than desirable interaction does not stand true to their cherished "inspiring" practice. Nicole-making someone cry & tell them they are not welcome at your studio is just hurtful!! Just a suggestion... maybe you can focus on deepening your own breath & allow ALL their customers to evolve & reach their full potential- not just a selected group. Living in a extremely hot state (Arizona) I do not find it necessary to torture myself with an over heated yoga room. I've searched far and wide for a yoga studio that doesn't try to kill people with excessive room temps. That's where Modern Yoga comes into play! While we all still end up drenched from sweat it is from the great practice we were all offered. The added bonus of this studio is the top notch instructors! I've never been disappointed here and look forward to many many more amazing experiences with the members and staff at Modern Yoga! read more

Love this yoga studio! A friend talked me into trying it and I'm so glad I did. The instructors are all excellent and the studio has a great variety of classes to choose from. John, Angella, and Anton have helped me master some of the more difficult poses with their expert advice and hands-on adjustments. John is a yoga master, who is so popular that people line up all the way to the door long before his classes start just to ensure they can get a spot. Overall excellent yoga studio. Definitely in the top 3 studios I've frequented in about seven years of practicing yoga. What really sets this place apart is the quality of the instructors! Classes are consistently well taught, and the flow classes are creative. Instructors offer choices so you can modify the class to suit your practice. I've really enjoyed practicing with John Salisbury, Anton Mackey, Desiree Grobstein, Donny Starkins. Also what I consider a huge plus is that instructors will walk around class and correct alignment or help you deepen an asana. To some, this may be off-putting as they take a pretty hands on approach to teaching but again, I think this is an absolute boon for the yogi/yogini looking to improve their practice. At so many studios you get little to zero individual attention during class! Come on! I'm no pro, give me some pointers! Some nice touches: Front desk staff is friendly No mirrors in studio (plus or minus depending on your preference, I found this refreshing) Towels available both for class and a post yoga shower Might seem odd to point this out, but the materials used in the bathroom are really high quality. I absolutely love Isabelle's Deep Yin class. She is very experienced and changes it up each class. She is a caring person and helps you along the way. This studio has great music and very spiritual teachers. I'm finding myself feeling nurtured and guided in a way I've never experienced during yoga classes. I had taken a John Salisbury class prior to Modern Yoga's opening and I was really impressed by how he shared his practice with others. This is initially what interested me in trying out Modern Yoga. I also love the location and heard great things about Anton Mackey as well. I have been to a few yoga studios in the valley and this one has become one of my favorites. There are no mirrors in the rooms, which I prefer. The classes I've been to are hot yoga. You also have the opportunity to sign up for events like Lisa Lippencott's Gong Sound Healing Event which was unique and wonderful. I like that the vibe of this yoga studio seems focused on helping you expand your practice and spreading a sense of well-being to those who choose to be present here. It has been ages since I attended a yoga class ! Recently purchased a 10 sessions from Groupon for $35 as I planned to resume yoga ! I am so glad I picked the modern yoga studio by Mountain View as my first experience there was incredibly amazing ! Firstly the studio itself is pleasantly well coming , clean n spacious !i attended the flow class by Instructor John ! The class was packed but every student followed john instruction well n I felt I had such a great yoga class ! I noticed the class hv diverse levels of yoga students from beginners to advance! I was truly inspired to observe many ladies able to freely do head n hand stands /) That was such a big motivation for me to improve ! The next day I tried the heated flow class n that was unbelievably fun n challenging ! The level of yoga instruction was the best ever n the instructor john is highly professional knowledgeable ! I find myself enjoying each yoga session n once my package finishes I plan to continue ! I am a big fan of this place n so glad I found a great yoga Centre that I can learn n practice yoga ! Family run business who hire and develop outstanding employees and teachers. By far the best place to practice in Arizona and better than any studio I've ever practiced in. The teachers are remarkably talented and will develop every student according to where they are in their practice.
