If I remember well, I have been coming to Mod's hair for 4 years now. I encountered this place thru Facebook when lots of my friends like this place. For the longest time, I had my natural black hair; I was ready to take a slight risk to highlight my hair. I was appointed to JP (Jean Phillipe). When I arrived at the institution, I was welcome with warmth. Special love goes to Claire. Such a sweetheart; she is beautiful. Took care of me with drinks (great Cappuccino)and by conversing like we have been friends forever. JP is a hair colorist; he was very understanding about my fear to change my natural hair color. He put me on ease; tried bunch of samples on my hair. It gets confusing, but he was super helpful. Trust me he did a fantastic job. Second time, I had ombré highlights of caramel blond again. Both times, I loved it, and can't wait for his next creation. For hair cut and style, initially I was Akiko, (who was the sweetest person and a great stylist) but she left to pursue her career somewhere else. My last two hair cut and style were done by Ly! He is a Superman for the hair. He can talk and feel the hair. He can work any texture of hair. And you ask how I know.... well he took care of three sisters's hair, and we all the girls have different type of hair, from frizzy, fine and wavy. He never goes drastic with me; he knows with my features what style would suit. He is an absolute creature. Beside JP, I love Ly too. Beside my sisters, few of my friends go to JP and Ly. I can't believe I didn't review these guys yet! What a fabulous, complete experience this was! I got a fresh cut, dye job, style and manicure! It was my first time ever getting to enjoy a manicure spiff up while the dye was setting in my hair - so I ended up with both black hair and chic black nails. It was such an enjoyable glow up! My stylist was super sweet and gave me EXACTLY the hair colour and cut I wanted, which is, as many will know, not an easy thing to always achieve when you go to a new stylist. He listened carefully to everything I explained that I was looking for, and went out of his way to ensure that I got it! I even left with my specific dye recipe (which is kind of like a half-black, half dark brown mix) on a slip of paper, since he understood that I travel a lot and it would just make it so much easier to hand the recipe to my next stylist! I was so appreciative of that, because it's often hard to get a stylist to understand the kind of colour I'm looking for (surprisingly enough). Cut out the reddish, tone it down to a cool, deep, darkest brown bordering on black but not as unnatural looking as black. He nailed it. The next time I'm back in Montreal, this is where I will take myself immediately. The nail salon is next door, but they have a door between the hair salon and nail salon, so that your stylist can simply walk you through, with your towel on your head, sit you in a chair, and the manicurist knows exactly how much time there is to get your nails done before you have to go back over for your rinse. It's such a great working relationship. I was so happy with the manicure that I went back again for a redo a week and a half later! Fair warning, though - this salon IS in Westmount, the moneyed part of Montreal, so you will pay through the nose for your perfect salon experience. For me, it was worth it. A girl's gotta treat herself once in a while, and since I only typically hit a salon once every six months, I could justify it! Ha! read more

I have some bad feelings about my experience at le Salon MODS. I would like to preface this review with how the service prices are a little misleading on their Facebook page/website -- for balayage and cut/blowdry with long hair, the total came out to about $400 CAD. The colorist was acceptable - they seemed skilled and gave me exactly what I asked for, but my hair was extremely damaged already and I feel like a good hair colorist should have said something or offered a service like an Olaplex treatment to avoid the extreme breakage that happened after my appointment. The stylist was OK, I didn't walk away feeling great like I usually do, and he seemed to give up on my hair when drying it since after the coloring it was terribly damaged. For $400 I feel I should have gotten more. All-in-all, I've had much better experiences for less than half of what I paid here. However, if money is not an object to you, it is a safe place to go. read more

I came in to have my hair coloured a light blonde. At the end, it turned out silver. They charged me 140 and said if I came back the next day they would chrage me 60 for another session to get it to what I wanted. Already very shady but I (stupidly) agreed. Then they turned my hair pure white. I said I wasnt't happy with it and they said they would put in another toner. It got closer to what I wanted, and at that point I was just ready to leave. Then they charged me 140 AGAIN to pay for the extra time and product it took to get my hair closer to what I ORGINALLY ASKED FOR. Got my cut from Francis and my color from Stephane, and they both did a great job. Francis paid close attention to what I wanted and gave me updates on what he was up to while he was cutting my hair. I feel like the cut will grow out well, too. They were both willing to go with it when I told them that I wanted something a little more funky, but based on the people around me they're good at doing more vanilla cuts as well. All together, cut, color, and highlights came to about $190, which is pricy for Montreal but moderate for the city I moved here from, so it still feels like a deal to me! Seeing as this is one of the closest salons to my apartment, I'm definitely going back, and definitely seeing Francis and Stephane again. read more

They have talent, get my color and cut from different stylists which I've returned numerous times, yet always shocked of price. Have ear-length hair, highlight touchup to roots and trim for over $375, the prices are crazy. Though you think you like it coming out, the price breakdown is not given and they look at you like that's normal. Wayyyy too expensive and have changed. Found the same service elsewhere at $175 each visit, tax in. They are crazy with these prices and obviously paying their Westmount rent for them. read more

I have never experienced anything like what I suffered through with this salon. When you first go, everyone is nice and the place looks very professional and it is designed well - but don't be fooled like I was, it is all superficial. I asked for ash brown hair.. My hair was healthy and hadn't been died in 10 months because I am from Toronto originally and have an incredible salon that I usually go to there.. However I was desperate for a hair dye and didn't have time to fly to Toronto so I went here based on the few good reviews that I read. This is your typical posh salon where the stylists have quite the conceded posh attitude, they seem to be "fake nice", especially since one stylist was smiling at another client while whispering how annoyed he was with her - but honestly I was happy to put up with the crappy attitude of the stylists so long as they did my hair properly. I very specifically told the owner/head colorist that my hair could not take more than 10volume as my hair lightens too quickly with the typical 20volume peroxide.. He seemed to understand however at the end of the treatment I noticed my hair was brassy and too warm and too light, I asked if he had used 10volume and he said "no I used 20volume" he said he would fix it so I went back and he only made my hair a darker really ugly colour and he told me to go home and see how I feel after a few days - everyone who saw it told me that it looked like a cheap out of the box gray-coverage dye... For $250 this was unacceptable. I tried calling but he "he was busy" and receptionists are all very nice and I think they know that the owner is rude and crazy, but they kept passing along my messages and I got no phone call back, after a couple weeks I decided to finally go to the salon and try to speak with the owner (I had already booked a flight to Toronto and my regular stylist said that she will try to work her magic and make me beautiful again, but I still have to wait 2 more weeks with this terrible colour), when I arrived i politely waited until the owner/colourist came to talk to me.. And before I could even open my mouth he was screaming at me and had his finger in my face.. It was so bad that I had to film him (the phone was beside my face and the camera could see only up his nose, that's how close he was to my face screaming at me that he will not fix my hair and not give me money back - keep in mind that I hadn't even yet mentioned that I wanted money back.. I hadn't said anything other than "hello, thank you for finding time to speak with me" lol!) anyway, I asked if he could please step back and let me speak and he refused and he said he was calling the police lol at this point I thought that maybe he was on drugs or something because he was acting like more of a lunatic than what you would expect from a business owner/service provider.. Still without allowing me to say a word, he began saying that I could take him to court if I want but he will do nothing for me - he even continued to say that I was harassing his receptionists by calling the salon 5 times in the past 3 weeks... I think I was just in shock at the whole thing because I was just sitting there waiting for him to stop yelling and I couldn't even think of what to do because this was not something I've ever seen or expected.. He ended up rambling something about my Facebook photos.. Which makes me feel uncomfortable because I didn't give them my Facebook profile which means that he probably sat there like a 14 year old girl creeping and stalking my Facebook.. Just extra weirdness to add to this whole thing. So enough of my detailed rambling, but I just want everyone to get an idea of how ridiculous this place is and how bad it was so that they never have to find themselves in that situation. And the best part - just to give a final idea of how amazingly looney this guy is, after the police got there and I told them what happened they advised me to take him to small claims court and file a complaint with the consumer protection bureau.. And the receptionist quietly apologized to me on the way out as though she was afraid of the crazy owner. Also, I didn't even complain about it because it's not a big deal, but the other guy had cut my hair unevenly lol so I'm not sure if all of the stylists are even properly trained/licensed. Bottom line: insanely rude stylists, lack of skill, poor client relations, lack of common decency. I don't understand how they have any good reviews at all, maybe these people are easily charmed or have gotten lucky, but if you are picky with your hair and have high standards, find another place to go. read more

This is hands down one of the best hair salons I've ever been to. When I lived in Montreal I was there almost every week. They did my mother and I's color, cuts and extensions for a little over 4 years. Definitely no complaints, my hair never looked better. I first got hooked onto this place after they had salvaged my wrecked hair from a bad bleach job from another salon. It was entirely burnt off and I couldn't stop crying. The stylist trimed and colored my hair back to it's natural state. It was much shorter but I was happy. A little pricy, but completely worth it. read more

I've been coming here for over 4 years and I must say this place is the BEST in town. I get my balayage from Stephan and my cut by Romero and they are both lovely people. The staff is always friendly and they are always on time. It's definitely on the pricier side but SO worth it. If you come by metro it's very convenient. read more

Best salon , consistently excellent. Did my hair today with Stephane and as usual he delivered EXACTLY what I asked for. I've done brown , ombré , blonde highlights , brown highlights and all were beautiful. Today I also did my brushing with Hector - he was truly amazing; I asked for wavy hair and once again he did it beautifully. All in all the service + their expertise are excellent. This is the only salon I've been consistently loyal to for the last 4 years (I normally flip flop between salons a lot) read more

i would not recommend this place at all! over the phone i was quoted a maximum price. it was within my budget therefore i booked myself an appointment. I got a trim by the hairdresser let me tell you how long it took him to trim and blow dry my hair. 2 hours!!!! i go to pay to be told another price. this guy quoted me 30$ more for his time. is it my fault the hairdress took 2 hours to do my hair. would never go back to this place!!!! i walked in at 10:50 and left his chair at 1!! you have to work faster. read more

I am new to Montreal and it was absolutely stressful to find a good hair spot. The first salon I tried did the worst job ever and I lost my trust until I was recommended to this place. I did my research and booked the appt with Stephane. He is a man of a few words but definitely the best at what he does! I cannot be happier with his service. The only reason I am rating them 4 instead of 5 is that when I came I wanted a haircut as well and from my research I found this guy which they offered me I was happy he was available. I don't live in Montreal, but I was dying for a cut, so I read the reviews on yelp and just went for it. Weird part of town but so worth it. They were so polite and professional, and the man that cut my hair was so good. It was exactly how I wanted it! He was very good at his job! It was clean inside also, which is a plus. It was the worst experience I ever had with a beauty salon. Super Unpolite and they act like they are the only salon in the earth, snobby persons that they do not care about your satisfaction. I was absoultly disappointed with their unpolite attitude and they only care about money, and not the satifaction of the client or your time. I had my hair colored a few times throughout the years at this salon (forget the name of a colorist, but he was a man. Nice fellow). I always thought the resluts were good (as much for the color as the price). However a few months ago I tried out a different salon downtown since it was more conveniently situated (salon Pure) for me and I was astonished : my hair came out better than ever and at a fraction of the cost. I'm sorry to say but i don't think I'll be going back for my color here. This is a nice salon (friendly and clean) but overpriced for their services (as far as color goes) in my opinion. read more
