It is one mile north of Grand Lake and just south of the park entrance station on U.S. Highway 34 (Trail Ridge Road). I did the long 40+ mile drive from Estes Park to here and was happy to finally get out of the car and walk around. It is a nice visitor center with restrooms, paper map, books, merchandise and exhibits with information about the park. There are park rangers on hand to answer questions that you may have. You can get permits and information about backcountry camping and hiking in the park at this visitor center. After spending a week in Rocky Mountain National Park, I enjoyed checking out the topographical map of the park and seeing all of the places that I visited. I covered a lot of ground while I was here. The Tonahutu Spur Trail starts outside the visitor center near the parking lot. Sadly, a fire burned up many of the trees on this trail years back. Don't forget to get your national park passport book stamped while at the visitor center.

There's a parking lot out front which fills up with people watching the Elk, walking around here, & taking the shuttle buses into town and to the Rocky Mountain National Park. You can obtain lots of free information on the Estes Park area including outdoor activities, lodging, activities around town, dining, & shopping. During the peak summer season, you can take the free town shuttles to this Visitor Center, then transfer from here to the free RMNP shuttles. Avoid parking and traffic issues during the busiest times of the year. Outside are some green areas (parklets), a pedestrian bridge that will take you across the river (where we saw Elk), some art, and the Estes Park Veterans Monument. It's a nice place to wander while stretching your legs.

This Visitor Center is just outside the park entrance off of Highway 34 remains open daily from 9am-5pm and is open all year round. We had exited the park at the Fall River Station when we saw this and decided to stop in at the end of the day. The Fall River Visitor Center is the newest Visitor Center. It has a good number of exhibits featuring some of the wildlife that you might see in the national park. The Visitor Center also has a store, and a ranger desk. There are some rubber stamps for your parks passport. This visitor center also has public toilets available. We were here briefly, but it was a nice little stop!

This gift shop is filled with beautiful items from pottery, scarves, seasonal hats (some fancy enough to gain you entry to the Kentucky Derby or Ascot) and all the ways to postcards, maps, magnets, fine woolen socks, and other household and patio accoutrement. I could not leave without a beautiful scarf -- my takeaway from our vacation week. Parking is plentiful, the service was spot on helpful, kind and considerately provided.

Every single guest inside was wearing one, which was noticed and great. The whole staff-not-masked gave me a bad taste about this town since this was the first place I visited. Luckily the rest of the town's establishments were intelligent enough to both have the sign out front AND actually follow it. Hopefully this will be over soon but it's not over yet. Bathrooms for paying visitors only (require a key), and they were dirty. Went to the museum which was $3 or $2 for military and I think $1 for seniors, signs had many spelling mistakes and the exhibits were not very cohesive--there was no progression throughout the museum just random exhibits and artifacts. It would be extremely boring for a child.

Blackhawk, on the other hand, is mostly casinos - with just a bit of the old Victorian homes. The visitor center in Central City is a worthwhile stop. It's along one of main roads (there aren't many!). The gentleman in the center was very knowledgeable and helpful. For example - the fire code adopted in the late 1800's focused buildings made with stone - to resist fires. As a fire in the late 1800's (1874?) destroyed almost all of the wood frame buildings and homes. They also have quite a few historical pictures of Central City. Recommended!

Local artisans work on sale! Community and commerce…read more When I go travelling I'm always interested in getting some kind of local souvenir. It is not an easy process because so many souvenirs are made outside of the community, village, country that I'm visiting. That is why it was such a treat to find Westside 40. This is a for profit shop in the same building as the Granby chamber of commerce. It hosts locally produced items from around 60 artisans from the surrounding community in Granby. Unique artsy-fartsy items are on sale. Granby is located just north east of Denver, under a two hour drive. Oh wow - the drive itself is worth it alone to visit Granby! I went in June and there was still snow sticking to the ground along the mountain pass before Granby. NATURE! MOUNTAINS! Then, after you pass all this green goodness, there is Granby nestled in a beautiful valley. Yes, it was a treat just getting there. Real community inspired and created souvenirs!
