Needless to say, l Lost my house and filed for a divorce. Then ​after paying him over $1,000 for bankruptcy. I found out I didn't have to go through with the Bankruptcy. Which I didn't. Because my mortgage company was doing illegal dealings. Which is what I asked Curtis to do. But he never checked into like I asked to. A year later the mortgage company had a law sued against them and I received a check. But that didn't get my house back, or my marriage. Or pay for the Divorce and all of the problems I went through. Hopefully he's a better lawyer now.

I had one long conversation where I ended up paying $1,700 to retain him. 2 months later I did not hear anything from him. This is all for a relocation custody battle I have been having with my sons father for for emotional, mental and physical abuse. I called the office everyday for a week leading to the day before I was scheduled to pick up my son. It wasn't until I refused to hang up the phone where I was able to speak with Matthew. And had to tell him I was not hanging up until he assisted me to pick up my son for July 1st because his father kept telling my son that he wasn't allowed to come with me. I was able to pick up my son after Herculean efforts that I told Matthew would be needed. I have not heard nor spoken to Matthew until today August 15th so you have an idea of the lack of professionalism and common curtesy Over 45 days later. I've sent his PA Tina several emails to which she only responded to one stating she hadn't heard anything from court yet. From August 10-14th I called his office every single day and left voicemails and was able to speak to the receptionist and his PA again Tina saying he was on a call so he couldn't respond. My son has been physically and emotionally abused which is why he no longer wanted to go be with his dad. This morning my sons father was threatening my son through text. Since he refuses to co-parent with me my son told him to call my attorney. He sent Matthew an email. Matthew called me about half an hour ago stating dad sent him an email. I reminded Matthew that I have been calling him all week because my son does not want to go back to PA. Matthew told me my son doesn't have the right to make that decision. I reminded him that I have been calling him and emailing Tina for weeks looking for his legal counsel because he is my lawyer.I expected a respectful response. Instead he started laughing at me and mimicking me for being emotional about my sons case. Saying " I'm trying to help you but you're not listening" as he laughed at me for being emotional. I then asked again I have been calling you expecting legal counsel and you have not responded. He said he never received the message. So not only is he negligent but now it's my problem that his staff is negligent. I am $2,000 in with this office and have received zero guidance and he could not care less about the well being of my son. It's disgraceful to even have this type of legal representation and it be allowed to continue. I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy. This will be the most honest and fair review you will read. Dan wants to think he is a nice guy and…read morehonestly in a different situation absolutely he would be the guy that you would hang out with in the summer, bbq with and have a beer with. If that is what you are looking for in an attorney by all means hire him. But if you want one that will fight for you as if his life is on the line, he is NOT the lawyer for you. If you have a DUI and if its even your 3rd DUI you get, I am sure Dan can get you out of it and cut a deal for you. He is very good at deals, as he should be because he is best buds with the guys in the DA's office. That being said, if you think you may have to go trial, don't hire him. He doesn't tell you that, but I will. Dan isn't a trial attorney and he will do things to get a deal that limits you if you decide the deal they offering isn't fair. My experience is that the WHOLE system in Berk County is corrupt. The prosecution doesn't care about truth and defense attorneys only care about getting paid. So they work together and sometimes that is a good thing but other times its not so good. When you watch the attorney you hired being best buds with the prosecution you don't really trust you life to them. Now to be fair Emily is incredible! Without her Dan wouldn't appear half as good as he comes across. Dan has a way making you think he is telling the truth, but I caught him in a few lies. The issue is that Dan is so good at lying, I think he believes his own lies. And if I had not known the truth i would have easily believed him. He is a smooth talker and he prides him self on being able to read people, so if you think he isn't reading you and playing you, you are crazy. So you will read plenty of reviews that will tell you how great Dan is, and maybe he will be for you, but I know if I had to do it over again I would not hire him. My advice is to proceed with caution. I know if you are looking for an attorney you are scared and in a scary situation and feel pressure to get help quickly. Take a breath and remember that the court system moves slow so you at least have couple of days to a week to find a good attorney. Any good attorney will be straight with you, allow you to ask questions, and be open to a free consultation. So do some research on what is going on, and get multiple opinions and prices. Then give yourself some time to think before making a decision. That's where I messed up, I did things based out of fear and that is never good. I wish you the best

That being said, I have now used Gross McGinley for both family law and real estate law, and had they not handled my two cases the way that they did, I wouldn't bother submitting a review. The first time I went in, I had the same general preconceptions as anyone else: 1) This is going to drain my bank account, 2) They'll charge me for every email, phone call, breath I take, etc., 3) They're not going to listen to what my end goal is, 4) They're never going to return my calls, 5) This is going to drag on forever. Kellie Rahl-Heffner handled my divorce and child custody nightmare. I knew in the first five minutes of meeting her that she was not only genuinely focused on what I was saying to her, but that she had a good soul and was going to do everything she could to make a terrible experience bearable. And that's exactly what she did. She showed up on time, she always got back to me, she knew my case, was always clear about my options and the costs (so I never had to secretly go insane with worry that a random bill would turn up and ruin my life,) and most importantly, explained everything to me about what to expect so that I could mentally prepare for whole process. Later on, I had to deal with what I thought would be a simple real estate issue, and after a bout of trying to do it myself, realized there was no way it would be accepted. Sarah listened, knew my case, was incredibly thorough, didn't mind dumb questions (I had puh-lenty,) and I never had to prod her or bug her. She was knowledgeable, wasted no time, and did what she said she was going to do. It was always clear what was expected of me and when it was expected. I wasn't intimidated at any point, and I walked away feeling like I'd done the smart thing - the right thing - by going with both of them. Opposing counsel informed him from the start they wanted us gone. The close relationship he has with opposing counsel took priority over representing us. (he mentioned it many, many times) I was accused, by them of seeing injuries on my gdaughter and ignoring them. The fact of the matter is I was banned from seeing her because I had called the police to check on her. He did nothing to stop them from repeatedly making this false, slanderous lie. (numerous times to the judge ) They falsified reports which he easily could have disputed by simply requesting records but he refused to do so. An evaluation I had by a doctor contained OVER 3 1/2 DOZEN errors, all of which I can prove. (Eval even said I was violent/suicidal when i have NO history of either) He did absolutely nothing.
