RIP OFF ALERT: 1) If you put the minimum of $4.00 into the machine you're supposed to get 5 minutes to wash your car, but it does NOT start working for about a minute, thus the 5 minutes YOU PAID FOR is actually only 4 minutes. I told someone that works there about this problem about 6 weeks ago and he said he would tell the owner but it's still happening today. 2) Four minutes isn't enough time to wash my entire vehicle so I had to put another $4.00 in the machine. After dropping $4.00 of quarters in it was still showing that it had taken only $2.75. I kept adding quarters hoping the funky old machine would start showing the actual amount - it didn't. I gave up in that bay and moved my foamy soapy car to the next bay. 3) The second bay worked in that it accepted my quarters but it also stole the first minute of my time! I asked someone in the next bay if the machine stole his first minute and he said it did. Bottom line: I gave this place a second chance and it stole $7.00 to $8.00 of my money. Previously I had written a yelp review saying that the Mohawk Car Wash in Solana Beach, CA had charged my debit card $15.00 for a 2 minute wash job. I stopped later and talked with the owner and he told me that the original $15.00 charge on my card would automatically be revised to the correct amount later. Sure enough, I just pulled up my checking account and the original $15.00 amount had been revised to a $4.00 charge, just as he told me. Because I have a lowered car, I can't take my car through a normal car wash any longer so I have to wash the car myself. Since I can't wash my car at my apartment because there is no wash bay or clean it at my parents' home any longer, I decided to try the Mohawk do it yourself car wash near their home. They are located on Highway 101 in Solana Beach next to Roberto's Mexican Restaurant. This place is great because not only do they have a car wash bay and a vacuum to clean the inside of your car with but they also have a detailer on site if you would prefer to have him detail your car. If you run out of cash or don't have any on you, their wash bays take credit cards. They also don't rush you if it takes a while for you to finish cleaning your car. It took me a while to clean the underside of my car after a mechanic's mistake and not once did anyone approach me and tell me to hurry up. I will definitely be coming here again. read more

As with any unattended transaction, there is a level of trust between the vendor and the customer that must be diligently maintained. When I use an ATM or fill my car at a service station, I expect to receive what I pay for. So, this morning, when I paid for a car wash, I expected a car wash. The foaming brush had no foam, The wand stopped spraying just as I was about to rinse the soap off the car. What to do? I didn't want to have that soap drying on the finish so I quickly drove over to the Shell station and ran the car through their car wash. You can have my five bucks. I just want you to know that if I can't trust the soap dispensers to be full or the water working, I won't be back. The equipment just has to work. Ugghhh car wash machine stole my money. Put in $2 and then tried to use coins for the rest, which it wouldn't take and it even ate more of my money. Couldn't get my money back and had no other cash. Drove away pissed off with a dirty car and $2.30 poorer. Bad news bears. read more

Aug 22 Went to the Mohawk Car Wash this morning and used my credit card for the first time there. The transaction indicated my final charge was $3.75. By the time I got to work and went on-line, he had already charged my card $15. The number listed is now tied to a fax machine. When I went to verify the number on line, found all these YELP reviews indicating he's been doing this for months!!! How are the credit card companies allowing him to continue to have a merchant account, knowing this??!! I'm sure there have been many complaints filed against him with peoples' banks. How does this go unnoticed and unchecked? A crook being allowed to continue to do business is a sad sign of the times! Posted this on my Facebook and LinkedIn accounts. I wanted to write this to let everyone know that I had a problem using my credit card to pay for the car wash. When I was done and hit the RED button the total said $5.75 that was on 9/25. When I checked my bank account today it had a payment pending for $15.00. After going on here to find a number to call and seeing all the negative reviews I tried calling the number which is a fax number. I then called my back, told them what happened and they are crediting my account $9.25 since I legitimately used $5.75. After I finished with my bank I continued to the filtered part of the review section and saw where the owner had posted that he was sorry for any problems and to please call him on his cell phone so that he could send any refunds he needed to. I did call him and told him what happened and that I had called my bank. He apologized and thanked me for my business and also for calling my bank to take care of it. He said he would have sent me the whole $15 but I told him it was not necessary. We had a very nice conversation and I truly believe that he does everything he can to make this as good a car wash as possible and to make sure everything is clean and works properly, which is how I have always found it to be. After the three days, twice a day of leaving a voice message with my phone number for a call back and hearing no response from this Mohawk Carwash I went ahead and disputed the overcharge of $9.50 with my credit card company. It looks to be resolved now but very unprofessional behavior by Mohawk Carwash(no response at all). I don't think I would trust using this credit car wash process again at this establishment. Too bad, I had used it many times before though since I moved up to Carlsbad in 2013 it had been not as often recently. :( read more

This place is an ongoing scam. They have overcharged me twice in the last month . I see complaints going back years on this. Use your credit card and press stop and see a $6 charge on the machine and then get charged $15 on your monthly bill. Be warned: cash only or risk getting scammed. I was also charged $15. The instructions say to press the stop button so that the machine stops the time on the charges so it says "you will be charged $3.50" but was still charged $15. DONT USE CREDIT CARD or you will be ripped off. Will pursue this with my card company and will report them for dishonest practices. read more

My Mistake: I didn't pay careful attention to the directions for a credit card car wash, although the details were clearly written at the pay station. The consequence was I was charged the maximum amount ($15.00). The next day I went to the car wash and explained what had happened. The manager (John) was polite, courteous, and helpful. He took initiative, offering options to rectify the problem. I appeciated the personal service received, will continue to use this well-managed facility, and will recommend to others. After reading the reviews because my wife and myself fall victims to the scam with the credit cards. W both washed our cars and used our cards to pay and when we pressed the red flashing button to end the wash my wife was charged $4.00 and I took longer and was charged $5.25 but to my shock and bewilderment when we reviewed our bank charges as we do daily we were charged $60.00?
