This is a review for the summer camp, only, where my seven-year-old Onondaga Chief has been going for two years in a row. Adam Wallach and Ken Barer do an incredible job of running the camp, marketing it, communicating with parents, rallying kids for weekly spirit days -- and generally rockin' it. The kids swim twice day and are given just the right amount of freedom for their age. My guy was thrilled to ride his bike around on trails independently (without a grownup following closely) in mountain biking. Picky eater though he is, he seems to eat decently well, carbo-loading every day at lunch. Kids get occasional treats like fruit sushi, which the kids get to make themselves, trips to an ice cream truck, and cold (not-too-unhealthy) popsicles in the afternoon. Our guy kept telling us about eating fresh strawberries at lunchtime that were picked, he said, from the camp's own strawberry patch. (I can't verify this claim; it did seem like it'd take an improbably long growing season and an awfully, awfully large patch of strawberries to supply all those hungry kids for the summer.) Counselors keep the kids hydrated in the heat, buses are shockingly timely (MTA should take note!). Bus counselors do a great job of communicating bus arrival times. Activities are varied and interesting, including options like "mining," water works, pottery, archery, crafts, farming(!), all manner of sports (tennis, soccer, baseball, etc..) -- and there is always something new going on. My guy was excited to go from the moment he woke up each morning. Yes, the camp is guilty of blatant cultural appropriation -- but we get that at this point, there's monetary value in the branding that makes change difficult. At least they're changing the logo in coming years. We'd be thrilled if they actually taught the kids a bit about the tribes of the Haudenosaunee / Iroquois Confederacy that the groups are named after. (Our son reports that there is some sort of small "museum" on the grounds with a few artifacts found on-site.) We did some of our own research. All in all a fabulous, fun way to spend the summer. Stay away!!! This place has a "happy camper policy" for refunding if your kid is not happy. There is a chance that your kid is bullied or hurt and you want to get out of this scam. They do not gove your money back. Stay away and keep your hard earned money!! We had the worst experience ever. Terrible camp director and unresponsive staff. read more

Mohawk is the BEST day camp! The team is so hands on--they live and breathe this place. The counselors are so great with the kids, there are so many different activities, the facility is beautiful. You wouldn't even know you are in westchester. A great place for kids to spend the summer. The communication is top notch! They built their own app to share photos and for parents to talk directly with the counselors during the summer. Plus, there is a preschool during the year. What a GREAT place! read more

This review is for their customer service. We had been going to Mohawk for two years, my daughter loves it...I had sent my 3 nieces as well and girls from my daughter's school. They hit capacity in enrollment in January, did not send out a note to legacy families to inform them of this...the last two years we had no issue enrolling in March and when I called in February they basically told me I was out of luck. It didn't matter that we have been going for years. They put us on the wait list and were unfriendly and curt during each interaction. Meanwhile other camps like Ramaquois, Ramapo and Spring Lake were delightful to speak to and some even made space for us. I called again to speak to the head of the camp and was still handled brusquely. Would have send my daughter here forever and my little one who is of age for camp next year....but nope! read more

My daughter attended Mohawk for both kindergarten and first grade. Her teacher was Kim Zimmerman for both years. I cannot say enough wonderful things about Kim. She is an exceptional teacher -- I remarked early on that she had spoiled Lucy and me for educators forever and I was right about that. Kim "gets it." She learns each student, listens to them, works with them, and treats them with the kindness, respect, and love most people reserve for their families. Kim understands that school is about more than tests and worksheets and really tries to tailor learning to each child. To have a teacher and person this phenomenal teaching at a facility as lovely and packed with wonderful activities and areas as Mohawk is an even bigger gift. The school is located on a beautiful campus with a farm, multiple playgrounds and climbing structures, lots of open space, structures for performance, arts and crafts, schoolwork, and many other activities -- even mini golf and their own bus, "Buster!" Mr. B., the music teacher, is fantastic; my now-7-year-old knows more about composers and their works than I do, and he encouraged her innate love of music in a fun, supportive way. Ms. Sue, the phys ed teacher, is a powerhouse and a great motivator, making sure to focus on teamwork and fun rather than competition and winning. The many school community events throughout the year made the school feel warm and welcoming. I only wish they didn't stop at first grade because we would've stayed a MCDS family as long as possible! I highly recommend the K/1 class taught by Kim, who may no longer be my daughter's teacher, but who will be our lifelong friend. read more
