Mohs made two significant errors in preparing my tax return. One of them I caught prior to filing the return, but the other one I'm now finding out after the return was completed and filed. Unfortunately, I now need to go through the process of filing an amended return to get money back from the federal and state government. I was hopeful that Mohs would help streamline the tax return process, but unfortunately, it became a lot more complicated and costed me a lot more time in reviewing their work. read more

I completely regret going here. I drive by this place frequently and based on this I thought I would give them a try. Huge mistake. I will not reiterate what others about the layout, but I'll give a brief synopsis of my experience. When I arrived I waited probably at least 20 minutes to be helped. Once I was brought to a desk, the tax lady was extremely rude. It was so bad I was just about to just get up and leave. She wanted to argue with me about not bringing my 2016 taxes in. There were a few other things she also proceeded to argue with me about. On top of this she began complaining about Trump's tax plan. Seemed completely unprofessional to try to talk politics with me. Also, she had no idea what several of my deductions even were. I could have done the taxes myself this lady was so bad. I would never recommend this place or go back there again. read more

Used to be good, but changed for the worse... Prepared my 2011 and 2012 taxes here with no problem. Then 2013 came around and nothing had changed about what I claimed when doing taxes. I claim federal, state, tuition, and medical every year. In 2012 Mohs charged me $95 for service. This year it was a whopping $201.00 for the SAME SERVICE! No business should double their charges for the same service within a year. I left Mohs office more angry than I've been in a long time. read more

I really really wanted to like these guys since I had heard about them through their radio advertisement on AM950 and I wanted to support the companies that advertise on the progressive radio station. I actually chose them over another tax prep company that a friend had recommended which had quoted me half the cost that Mohs quoted. Sadly, it was not a good experience. First, the person answering their phones -- what is up with her?? She's confrontational without needing to be. Her tone sounded like she had a chip on her shoulder and it's not what a company should have representing itself to client's when they call. Second, they are based inside a house in St Paul -- which was a little odd, I'm not gonna sugar coat it. The "waiting room" was in a kitchen. Maybe that's supposed to be quirky or charming but to me it was just kinda creepy and weird. It was crazy-busy when I was there and it felt more like a fast food restaurant than tax service - loud, crowded, people talking over eachother and chaotic. The desks were set up in a cramped fashion in the living room that made them seem more like a fly-by-night organization rather than a professional tax service company. There was no privacy from one desk with clients giving their personal financial information to the representative to the next client sitting inches away giving their personal financial information to their rep. At one point, my rep actually asked for my social security number and wanted me to verbally tell it to her in this room full of strangers. Third, their computers had to be "re-booted" while I was there -- which was well over an hour and I didn't have that much to file. The reason for the reboot process was not explained to me nor were apologies given which added to the unprofessional overall feeling I was getting from the place. The only thing I liked about the experience, to be honest, was that they had advertised on AM950. Not a good enough reason to ever support this business again. read more

Terrible service, i have been going to mohs tax for years and the past 3 years everything change, she increase her tax service from 100.00 to275.00 for a simple form and my taxes I don't think are being done correctly, my income has been the same for years. and I paid enough taxes now the last 2 years I owe a large amount taxes and the preparer kept making mistakes and was confused when I asked him several questions . they made mistakes on my taxes! I would strongly urge people NOT to use Mohs Tax service. My wife and I were faithful clients for almost 8 years. A few years ago we were audited by the IRS because of mistakes Mohs had made filing our joint returns. The mistakes were elementary and glaring, and led directly to the audit according to the IRS (our financial profile is not complex). During the appeals process, Lynda Mohs missed key deadlines, filed written requests in a sloppy fashion, and was unable even to secure for us an advocate (which is completely standard - we had to get the advocate ourselves after being told that she had). The initial judgment of the IRS was a back tax bill, with penalties and fees, of $14,000 for 2006 alone, with two other years likely to be audited as well. During the process, we repeatedly asked whether we needed a tax attorney, and Lynda Mohs said no. When we finally hired a tax attorney anyway, he was able to demonstrate right away how incompetent Mohs had been. With legal fees, we ended up paying almost $30,000 in all. He also said we were not alone - that he and his associates had often been approached by people who had suffered devastating losses because of Mohs Tax service. Legally, a tax preparation company is liable for fees and penalties (although not the tax itself) when they are in error. I respectfully requested by letter that Mohs take responsibility for the penalties and fees, and they refused to answer. In fact, I had paid for their services in advance, and they angrily refused even to return the fees for a year I did not use. They are TERRIBLE, and you should avoid them like the plague. read more
