My artistic, seven-year-old daughter and I came to Louisville for spring break and enjoyed spending more than two days with Ms Audrey. We had stopped at the Speed Art Museum on our way into the city. Pro tip: The speed is free on Sundays. My daughter was inspired by some community artwork with mixed media on canvas. We showed a picture of the inspiration to Ms Audrey. She had the perfect materials and know-how to help us create our own masterpiece, inspired by the art we saw at the museum. My daughter did not want to do anything else in the city besides make art with Ms Audrey- we even skipped the children's museum. We learned different techniques for using the materials and I'll definitely be incorporating them as we continue to create at home. Ms Audrey helps you not only bring beauty into the world, but she makes learning a new craft accessible step by step. Her process helps you create while expanding your crafting skills along the way. My…read moreniece and I brought in her prom dress to have the straps altered and asked if Sherry could replace the plunging mesh with a matching fabric if we went and bought fabric and brought it back to her. SHERRY said she could take the sequins from the sections of straps being removed and add them to the mesh since she didn't think we could find a matching fabric. To be clear, this was HER suggestion. We never thought that would have been an option. The dress was just picked up and she literally took the cut pieces of fabric and glued it to the mesh! It looks like a kindergartner's construction paper project! Then she had the audacity to say that is what we asked for! Do NOT GO TO THIS WOMAN! SHE IS A FRAUD and will destroy your dress! Prom dresses aren't cheap and we trusted what she said! Don't make our mistake!

The website lists what age the class is for (kids, teens, or adults), the project and what pattern will be used, and the level of difficulty. There are classes for people who have no sewing experience, up to confident sewists, and everything in between. With your registration, you get the pattern, fabric, thread, and any other materials needed to successfully complete the project. Just show up ready to learn and create! The studio is at the Mellwood Arts Center, easy to find and plenty of parking. It's also well marked once you get to Mellwood, so I had no problem finding the studio. Inside the studio is gorgeous, with a lot of natural light. There are 16 new sewing machines, with four ironing tables, two huge cutting tables, and everything a class needs to complete any sewing project. I took the skirt sewing class for adult advanced beginners- those who have basic sewing experience and have practiced within the last year. There were four students in the class, all who knew a little about sewing but wanted more guidance. The class was scheduled for two four-hour blocks, and we actually went over on time the 2nd day. This was the first time this class was offered, so it's hard to know how long things will take, so keep that in mind when looking at your schedule. We had everything we needed to take our measurements, trace and cut the pattern, and sew the skirt. Lyndsey explained everything we needed to do very clearly, and helped us when we had l questions. It was a great learning atmosphere, with music playing and questions and conversation. Even though I'd made a few garments before, I learned a ton of information about the process of garment sewing. The time and cost of the class was an amazing value, because learning the same amount of information and making as nice of a garment would've taken me hundreds of hours and probably hundreds more dollars in failed projects! After taking a class at Made Stitch, I feel excited about sewing, whereas on my own I'd sometimes get frustrated. Now I feel inspired to make my own project right away, so I can practice some of the very valuable information I learned! Like I said, I'll be keeping an eye out for my next class to take, and I'd recommend Made Stitch to anyone interested in sewing, of any age or skill level!

I finally found her shop on a Monday and nervously brought in my outfit. She was very patient and kind with me. My romper was a Lilly Pulitzer- which means nothing to some. For that brand it is all about the print placement. I went from maxi to tea length- but saved all the fabric for another project. We talked about her maybe making a bow tie or headband!! When I picked up my outfit Wednesday it was ready to go - I dropped off a pants suit to be hemmed and picked that up Finished on Friday!!! They seemed more interested in carrying on conversations among themselves. Their service department is significantly substandard. I have a PFAFF Creative Icon 2 that I took in for repair. Prior to taking it in I asked if they were able to work on my type of machine. I was told yes. The repair took an exceptionally long time. When I picked up my machine, the individual working on the machine made it very clear to me that she did not enjoy working on my machine. I later found out that she had very little experience working on PFAFF machines. When I went to use my embroidery attachment, I discovered that she bent the plastic lock for the unit. I will now need to contact PFAFF directly to see if I can still safely use my attachment. If you have ANY PFAFF I would strongly suggest finding another person/store to work on your machine. It was not a joy working with this store.
