I really needed specific color serger thread to tailor some pants. Austin's had a great selection of Maxi-Lock colors to choose from. The workers were all very helpful & friendly. The store is a kinda cluttered because there's so much in it, but I'll take some clutter over fewer items. Sewing notions are getting harder & harder to find, so it's great when I can find what I need without ordering online & hoping I pick the right color. My one star deduction is because they only carry 100% cotton quilting fabric. I know it's the popular option, but a poly/cotton blend will last much longer. read more

On March 31, I took a skirt in to be hemmed. I said I didn't need it for a week. The owner said she would call me when it was ready. On April 15 when I still hadn't heard from her, I called to ask if it was ready. She said she had misplaced the skirt but was going to hem it that day. Since I was out of town, I told her I would pick it up on April 18. I get there on April 18, and the skirt is not only not ready, it's not even there. She had outsourced it to be done elsewhere. I then had to pay $4.95 more than the $14 I had been quoted. The owner said she'd have the skirt dropped off, which she did. I just tried on the skirt, and it's not even the length it was supposed to be. I will never go back to this place. I might have given them a two-star rating had they apologized, but they offered ZERO apologies for the inconvenience and price discrepancy. read more

Truly should have listened to these reviews before purchasing. I have never felt so assaulted by the extreme lack of ownership of any problem. First being told it is my fault for something and being charged for it only to be an actual warranty problem that they can't seem to prioritize. Never sympathetic to time constraints and only concerned about closing on time. No empathy whatsoever and the annoyance in their voices is pretty disgusting. My advice, get lectured by your mother. If you enjoy being talked down to then this is your place to go. They have treated us bad each of the 3 times we have went in causing us to take our business elsewhere. This last time we went in to ask about an industrial sewing machine saying that no one can get these but yet we had already known where else we could get these machines. It's sad this is the only store in Louisville that can service my brother machine... the people who work here are rude and less than helpful. They act as though they are inconvenienced by any questions you may have. Buyer Beware! This is the most current location for Austin's Sewing Center. Same business, same owner, and I suspect the same shady business practices of his previous locations. I called them several weeks ago when I was looking for a Brother Authorized repair shop. The lady who answered the phone was plenty friendly but it was the information she gave me that raised a red flag. CONVERSATION Q:" Are you an Authorized Brother repair shop for an embroidery/sewing machine that needs a tune-up and repair of a broken circuit board?" A " Yes, we work on all types of machines, including Brother." Q "Are you associated with the business by this same name that had been on Taylorsville Rd?" A "Yes, that location is closed now and our business is located at 5640 Bardstown Rd." I finished the call with a polite "Thank You" and then went straight to the internet to BROTHER to look up authorized repair places for my expensive Brother Embroidery/Sewing machine that is still under warranty. Guess what Austin's IS NOT AUTHORIZED and if they had worked on my machine the warranty could become void. Shame on you for telling lies! read more

I love shopping here. The staff is an excellant resource for sewing and quilting. They are always enjoyable to chat with and very friendly. That has not been my experience at other shops. Anytime I have a question they are able to answer it for me. I am a quilter and I am very happy with their broad selection of fabrics. I have purchased two Baby Lock machines from there and really enjoy sewing with them. I have also had another machine serviced there and was very pleased with the results. With several other shops closing, they are a dependable resource for me. read more

These people have gone out of their way to help me with very, very small purchases, like a $7 spool of thread and an $8 sewing machine belt. During the pandemic, they helped me choose thread colors via email with pictures so I wouldn't have to spend time in the store. Pre-pandemic, they spent a lot of time with me in the shop trying to figure out what belt would fit my vintage Kenmore machine. I was treated horribly at their competitor's shop on Westport Rd. after management changed there, even after I had spent thousands on embroidery machines there over the years, so I was very relieved to find a place that actually seems to care about their customers. read more

I would give NO STARS if I could. I went in looking to find another sewing machine to suit my expanding skills. NO ONE was willing to help me by taking the time to explain the different machines and what they can do. Left to my own devices, I opted to leave and purchase a $9,000 machine at Among Friends Quilt Shop (who helped me tremendously). Prior to that visit, I'd dropped in for a few notions and when I had to ask where something was located, the sales staff rolled their eyes and seemed clueless. I will NEVER EVER go back. read more

I attended a quilt class on Feb 24 first part of two classes for Quilt of Valor. Upon arrival, I was yelled at by Barbarba Snyder, the quilt instructor rudely asked where my sewing machine was? I stated, I didn't bring it because I am new to quilting and still learning how to cut. Because the class was only 3 hours, I am sure that I am not going to be using a sewing machine. Furthermore, my husband and I are both disabled veteran and will need someone to help us to carry the sewing machine. Barbara Snyder, continued yelling and commanding us not start or do anything unless she was in front of her. Then when I asked a question, because we are not doing anything except standing around, waiting for her to come, and then she was so rude yelling, "I do not understand you!" She deliberately repeated the same starement "I don't Understand you or I don't Know what you're talking about, directed to me. I wanted to tell Barbara I speak seven languages and English is my fifth. Barbara's unprofessionalism and lack of patience, disrespect for people like me who paid for the class. Barbara's Snyder's reputation is quite famous for being rude, foul language, and condescending manner. I attended a wonderful class today at Sewing and Vacuum authority and just a mention of Barbara Snyder's name made several of my classmates stated that Austin Sewing Store knows Barbara Snyder's character and attitude and they continue to allow her to teach. They no longer attend classes at Austin Sewing center. It's too bad as I will NO LONGER buy product or attend any class from that store and will certainly tell anyone who asks not to attend any classes at Austin Sewing center at Bardstown Rd Louisville Kentucky. I WAS SOLD A LEMON EMBROIDERY MACHINE!! I'm just so aggravated. I bought a Innovis nq1600e on December 10, 2020 and it worked for 10 days. They took till March 12 to get a replacement thread cutter. I haven't used it till a few days ago and it messed up completely and birdnested , which means tons of thread bunched up. I put a new needle, bobbin and rethreaded it and it still messed up. I took my sewing machine in for maintenance because it was noisy. It was sewing and working well, just wanted it cleaned and oiled. I had been using it regularly and it worked perfectly other than being noisy. I got my machine back completely unusable. They broke my machine and refused to make it right. They were unprofessional, talked down to me and the owner raised her voice and smirked when she was talking with me. They tried to say it was locked up and not working when I brought it in, which was completely untrue. They pushed me off on another sewing machine shop because they say they are no longer Janome dealers. But by them opening my machine and not putting it back together correctly, that voided any warranty I may have had. I also had parts missing when I got it home. The bobbin holder was gone and there are gaps and misalignments. The machine is completely destroyed and they were smug and rude to me. I WISH I COULD GIVE THIS BUSINESS MINUS (-) STAR. I was treated with condescension and sent a very flippant and insulting email by the owner of Austin Sewing Center. Here's the story: My Singer Quantum 9960, purchased through Amazon Prime as my Christmas present, at 4 months old of light use, suddenly started jamming. After talking with Singer customer service, singer paid to have my machine shipped to Austin Sewing Center(ASC). ASC is the closest authorized warranty repair center for Singer to where I live in TN. After 2+ weeks I received a hurried and rather flippant voicemail (5/22/2018) saying that the problem wasn't covered by the warranty because the technician thought the bobbin case had caused the timing issue versus the other way around. My Singer Quantum Stylist 9960 is only 4 months old. I called back very upset and requested an email with all the information that had been left in the voice mail and potential out of pocket costs be sent to me because I strongly disagreed with ASC's assessment and I wanted documentation in writing. I did receive an email from the company owner, Teresa Packer, which I found insulting and belittling. Ms Packer actually commented in her email that I should have purchased my machine from an authorized dealer and I wouldn't be having these problems. Amazon in an authorized dealer for Singer. Per Singer customer service representative, when the machine is being repaired under warranty, it must be sent to a warranty repair center. I could not take my Singer to any of the authorized local singer repair places if I wanted to use my warranty. Due to Austin Sewing Center's technician's hurried review of the machine and the owner's believing that the problem was that I didn't pay 2x the price, I am now working with Singer to get the repairs covered. Ms Packer has yet to give me an itemized list of costs as I requested. Bottom line: I found the owner (through voice mail and email) to come across as judgemental and very unhelpful. Even if I lived in Louisville, ky (which I don't), I would not purchase anything from Austin Sewing Center. They have not treated me with any respect and are not doing anything to resolve the warranty coverage problem caused by Austin Sewing Center. My RECOMMENDATION: DON'T SHOP HERE! DON'T SEND YOUR WARRANTIED MACHINE TO BE REPAIRED BY ASC. REQUEST CUSTOMER SERVICE TO HAVE YOUR MACHINE SHIPPED to A DIFFERENT WARRANTY REPAIR CENTER, NOT Austin Sewing Center. P. S. Pretty disappointed in this company. It's the closest authorized Brother repair center so when my machine broke I took it to them. I called ahead and the person who answered the phone told me they could take a look at it when I brought it in to see if it would be a quick fix. When I got there I was told they don't look at them on check in and to call next week. I called in a week and they said they'd need to keep it a total of 2 weeks. I called at 13 days because I really needed my machine for a project. They said no one has looked at it yet. So I said I'd just come get it then try and figure it out myself. The person said I couldn't just come get it because it might be in pieces. I called her out and said you just told me no one has looked at it yet! A few days later it was ready. It was returned with a slip saying the only problem was the needle was slightly loose. I KNOW the needle wasn't loose. I'm not a rookie sewist. After trying it at home I found it still wasn't working right! Through extensive YouTube and online support groups I figured out how to fix it myself. I've heard this is common for this store especially if you didn't buy the machine from them originally. I won't be back unless I absolutely have no other choice. Brother brand should discontinue their relationship with this store. read more

I absolutely LOVE this place. I go to the one on Bardstown Rd. Everyone there is so helpful. I bought my Janome sewing machine there. They gave me lessons on it. I took it back once when I had totally screwed it up, thought I had destroyed it. They laughed and fixed it. I buy my material there. I cannot say enough about this place. I love it!! read more

I had to write this after the other review was so negative about this business. I bought my Pfaff sewing machine from them and they serviced several machines for me, one a Brother serger. They were exceptional in their communication and honesty with me about one of my old machines in particular, explaining the limits of any service to this 30+ year old machine before doing the service and charging me for it. In addition to machine sales and service they have a wonderful collection of fabric, sewing machine accessories, videos and books, and classes. I am not related to them in any way, just a very satisfied customer. You should stop by their store sometime. read more
